Chapter 10: Ambush!

Chu Yunsheng was so excited that he could hardly sleep. He no longer had to wait two years to enter the Duality Heaven realm. Now, his goal was to kill at least 243 Red-Armored Bugs!
He had to leave his room, actively venture into the darkness, find those lone Red-Armored Bugs, and kill them to absorb their essence!
Equipped with a new Essence Absorption Talisman, a handgun, a foldable crossbow with arrows, and a longsword prepared from the Sunlight Era, sealed with a Divine Weapon Talisman for close combat.
Additionally, Chu Yunsheng, feeling uneasy, inscribed another Hexagram Talisman to enhance his physical abilities and defenses. By the time he finished all this, it was already over ten days later.
Finding Red-Armored Bugs was not difficult. The frequent, chilling screams from afar and the intense gunfire from the military all indicated the presence of Red-Armored Bugs.
With Chu Yunsheng's current abilities, it was best to ambush lone Red-Armored Bugs. If they appeared in groups, he would have to flee!
He rejected the idea of scavenging in areas where the military was battling the bugs. These were dangerous zones with groups of bugs, and his method of absorbing essence using talismans was quite bizarre to modern humans. He didn't want to be taken away for investigation by the military like the Ice Fist Man.
His current target was lone or paired Red-Armored Bugs. He didn't want to face even three of them. If the Hexagram Talisman couldn't withstand the fierce attacks and the terrifying corrosive saliva of the Red-Armored Bugs, he would regret it.
During these ten days, the other residents in the building struggled through a lifeless existence. Food was running out, forcing everyone to debate whether to evacuate or hold out until the military regained control of the city. These debates often led to heated arguments.
When Chu Yunsheng left the residential area, many people sighed slightly, but no one questioned him. Many people who couldn't endure the situation had secretly gone out to try their luck and find food, but most never returned. Chu Yunsheng was categorized as one of those who were going to their deaths.
He found a secluded corner, took out a motorcycle prepared from the Sunlight Era from his Storage Talisman, and chose a common brand to easily find spare parts in the future.
Wearing a high-priced, fourth-generation night vision device and a matching helmet, Chu Yunsheng revved the motorcycle and headed towards the nearest scream, looking somewhat cool.
Shen City, shrouded in darkness, had lost all its former prosperity. The occasional passing car lights were like ghostly fires in a dead city. The tall, silent buildings around him seemed like monstrous predators.
When Chu Yunsheng arrived at the location of the scream, he only found a headless half-corpse. The empty head lay under a nearby utility pole, with internal organs and blood spilling out, a gruesome sight.
The Red-Armored Bug must not have gone far. He put away the motorcycle and, holding the crossbow, crept along the wall of a building towards another street.
The night vision device was a high-performance, fourth-generation low-light "filmless technology" product smuggled from abroad. Such products were strictly controlled in the country.
To cope with the complete darkness, he also carried an infrared radiation source. Because the bugs, due to their protective shields, did not emit infrared radiation, they could only be detected by the reflection of ambient light. In completely dark areas, an active infrared radiation source was essential for detection.
Turning a corner, then another, he encountered no Red-Armored Bugs, only a few panicked humans. Chu Yunsheng shuddered at the thought: he was probably the only person in the world who hoped to encounter bugs!
Just as he was about to leave the area, a shrill scream came from a building across the street, followed by a chaotic, terrified shouting. Chu Yunsheng's heart raced, and he quickly crept closer. He could vaguely see a large hole in a second-story window, and the infrared imaging showed several shadows moving around on the fifth or sixth floor, though not very clearly due to the walls.
Chu Yunsheng focused his mind, relying on his enhanced physical abilities from the Hexagram Talisman, and climbed up the wall to the second-story hole, entering it.
He moved cautiously, as the walls obstructed his view, and he didn't know how many bugs were inside. He had to prevent any unexpected situations.
The screams and cries echoed through the quiet, dark night, piercingly loud.
Chu Yunsheng followed the sounds to the fifth floor. By then, he could clearly see about six people and a Red-Armored Bug. There were two or three corpses on the ground. The Red-Armored Bug didn't seem in a hurry to kill everyone, likely considering them as doomed prey, slowly feeding on a human brain.
The people huddled in the corner, occasionally letting out desperate screams. The night vision device couldn't clearly show their expressions, but Chu Yunsheng was sure they were as panicked as he had been the first time he faced a bug.
The Red-Armored Bug, having finished with the brain, scanned the six people with a肆无忌惮 gaze, seemingly selecting a more delicious brain.
The six people instantly understood the bug's intent and collectively stopped screaming. No one wanted to die first. Perhaps if the disgusting bug was full, it would leave.
The bug's greedy gaze soon settled on a pretty girl. The girl, realizing she was chosen, felt as if she had entered hell. Despair, fear, and terror erupted within her. She cried, hugging the arm of a middle-aged man, shouting, "No, not me, not me!..."
The others around her had complex, contradictory expressions—sympathy and relief that it wasn't them.
She looked at the middle-aged man with a last glimmer of hope, but he avoided her gaze and even forcefully pulled his arm from her desperate grip!
She despaired, finally accepting her fate, her heart turning cold.
The bug approached, and she closed her eyes.
Suddenly, she was pushed aside, and a figure stood in front of her. Opening her eyes, she saw a young boy, the one who had once said he liked her, the one she had coldly rejected. He turned and gave her a faint smile, which, in the dim light of a flashlight, was both tragic and touching!
Tears silently streamed down her delicate face, as if the world had paused at that moment.
But the bug didn't stop. It didn't care about this childish behavior. Since someone was willing to die first, it didn't mind waiting.
The boy looked resolutely at the blood-red mouth approaching him, tightly holding the girl's hand, death imminent.
Everyone watched the boy in shock. Some were moved, others thought he was foolish, but all believed he was about to die!
Surprisingly, the bug's blood-red mouth didn't bite down. Instead, it quickly turned, almost in panic, and then a sharply cold arrow pierced through the bug's protective shield, violently stabbing into its body!
The bug didn't even have time to scream. It was immediately enveloped in a hissing cold aura, quickly turning into an ice sculpture!
Everything happened so suddenly and bizarrely that the bug was still in the act of turning!
The six people were momentarily unable to think. This scene was beyond their comprehension!
Following the direction of the arrow, a man in a gray coat and a strange helmet, holding a crossbow, was looking at them!
