Chapter 58: Where is the exit?

Chu Yunsheng's figure flickered, and he kicked the back of the sofa, using the force to leap towards the older woman, shouting to the man with disheveled long hair, "Go save your wife!"

He immediately took action not just because he felt the issue was heart-wrenching, but also because he felt as if he were right there in the situation, even if it wasn't happening to him. More importantly, this was the best time for him to attack. Only four of the monsters were still flying around, and he and Yao Xiang could handle them as long as nothing went wrong.

The tip of the Qianbi Sword barely grazed the red-eyed monster on the older woman's head, tearing a long gash. Yao Xiang followed up with a strong pull, dragging the monster down.

Having dealt with that one, Chu Yunsheng reversed the Qianbi Sword, changing from a slicing to a sweeping motion, and struck a red-eyed monster that was lunging at him. A slight surge of energy tore through its central system, killing it with one strike.

At this point, the man had already come to his senses. Seeing Chu Yunsheng deal with the monster on his mother's head, he immediately flew towards his wife, releasing icy energy to try to freeze the monster.

Chu Yunsheng's long sword slightly shook, dislodging the dead red-eyed monster, and he landed steadily on the ground. Two other red-eyed monsters were already attacking him.

He leaped to one side, raised his sword over his head, and slashed down on one of the monsters, cutting it in half. The other monster, missing its target, turned to attack again but was forced back by Yao Xiang's continuous Fire Wheel Slashes until it was burned to death.

After the four were defeated, the man somehow managed to remove the monster from his wife's head. He was trembling as he held her, her face and head already devoid of any intact skin, and she seemed to be on the brink of death.

Chu Yunsheng looked around through the window, confirming that no other red-eyed monsters were following, and only then did he relax.

The toxic mist from the red-eyed monsters was far more lethal to ordinary people than Chu Yunsheng had imagined.

The man's wife only managed to mutter, "You must live," before she died.

His mother didn't last much longer, her trachea completely melted and unable to speak. She clutched the man's hand with all her might, her eyeless sockets fixed on her son, as if in longing, hope, or worry, until she died.

The man's throat constricted, and he buried his head in his disheveled hair, grabbing the hair at the back of his head. He let out a heart-wrenching cry and tore out his own hair, blood streaming from his scalp, his heart broken!

Saving his wife or his mother, the outcome was that neither could be saved!

Whether in the dark age or the age of light, nothing is more heart-wrenching than watching your loved ones die before your eyes, feeling utterly helpless!

Chu Yunsheng silently collected the bodies of the monsters. When he picked up the body near the man, the man snatched it away, tearing into the monster in a frenzy. Then, he rushed out the door, shouting into the green mist, "Come on! You bastards! Come and bite me! Come on, why don't you!?"

Fearing his cries would attract more red-eyed monsters, Chu Yunsheng immediately followed him out to pull him back. He saw the man, who was over six feet tall, collapse heavily to his knees and fall forward, fainting.

Chu Yunsheng grabbed the man by the collar and dragged him back into the café, placing him next to the other two bodies. The group that had entered earlier watched silently, only a faint sigh escaping one of them.

Yao Xiang picked up the cookies and other food that Chu Yunsheng had dropped, walked to the group, and said sincerely, "Hello, are you locals?"

Perhaps intimidated by Chu Yunsheng and Yao Xiang's martial prowess, or moved by Yao Xiang's sincerity, the group was not as cold as before.

The woman leading them nodded and said, "Yes, if you're passing through, I know what you want to ask."

She pointed to a man and said, "He also came into Kuncheng from outside. I know your doubts, but we can't help you because no one can leave the mist!"

Chu Yunsheng was startled and quickly asked, "What do you mean?"

The woman laughed bitterly and said, "Why? If we knew, we wouldn't be hiding here! Even awakened humans can't leave the mist. They either die in it or wander around like headless flies, but no one has ever been known to leave!"

Chu Yunsheng felt a chill. If he couldn't leave the mist, how could he go to Jinling City? How could he find his aunt? Was he doomed to be trapped in this city forever?

Yao Xiang's face also darkened; no one wanted to be trapped here.

There must be a way, Chu Yunsheng kept telling himself. He couldn't lose hope. The mist must have some peculiar property to seal the exit. If he could find the peculiarity, he could find the exit.

Mysterious things are often due to the unknown and unfamiliar. If he could uncover the cause, there would be hope!

Chu Yunsheng's mind calmed, and he realized his current strength was still insufficient. He had only enough energy to kill ten red-armored bugs. He silently recalled that his body needed to be tempered three or four more times to reach the level of killing eleven red-armored bugs, but he was still some distance from the peak of the One Yuan Heaven realm, which required the ability to kill fifteen.

It was time for him to quickly improve his realm, or he might die before finding the exit!

Thinking of Colonel Du and his group, Chu Yunsheng had an idea. He could start ambushing the long-faced man and his group earlier.

Since he didn't know when he would find the exit, and this place was not like the outside darkness where a flashlight or light would reveal him, the green mist here greatly reduced the penetration of light, and night vision devices were useless. This was the perfect place for him to ambush them.

Chu Yunsheng thought Colonel Du must be more anxious than he was, busy searching for the exit and probing everywhere. He could follow behind them, and if they found the exit, he would save himself the trouble. They had scientists, so they might be smarter in that regard.

Additionally, whenever Colonel Du's group encountered red-eyed monsters or similar things, he could ambush them. Once Colonel Du retreated from the battle, he could collect the monster bodies to refine talismans and improve his strength.

With his plan set, Chu Yunsheng was less anxious. He remembered he still needed a bow and asked hopefully, "By the way, do you know where in Kuncheng I can find a place that sells bows or a club?"

Seeing the group remain silent, Chu Yunsheng took a cookie from Yao Xiang and offered, "If you take me there, I'll give you three bags of these cookies!"

"Deal!" A man from the group immediately agreed but then asked, "I know of a club with bows, but it's very dangerous. Do you dare to go there?"

Chu Yunsheng didn't act rashly and asked calmly, "How dangerous is it?"

The man said, "It's not the red-eyed monsters, but people—ferocious and ruthless people. They have awakened warriors and guns. They even eat people when they have nothing to eat. The place used to be a top club in Kuncheng, but now it's their stronghold!"

Chu Yunsheng didn't want to deal with so much trouble just yet. He thought for a moment and asked, "Are there any other places with bows besides this one?"

The man shook his head and said, "I only know of this one. I've never seen bows anywhere else."

Chu Yunsheng gritted his teeth, deciding to first check how strong these people were before making a plan. He nodded and said, "Alright, let's go there. This half bag of cookies is a deposit. You take me there, and if it's real, I'll give you another two and a half bags!"
