Chapter 63: Model Establishment

Struck by the ice arrow formed by pure yuan energy, the man's figure wavered. Although the freezing effect did not reach its maximum, it still allowed the two red-eyed monsters to find an opportunity to attack, pouncing down and tightly wrapping around his upper body. He exhausted his fire energy to tear one apart, his body already torn and bloody. The other one did not hesitate to pounce again, and this time he had no strength left to resist. Before long, his upper body turned into a pool of blood.

After successfully ambushing one person, Chu Yunsheng continued to draw his bow and shoot. His archery skills were poor, and he often missed. Fortunately, the intense battle below meant no one paid attention to his missed ice arrows.

When Colonel Du and his team finished the battle, Chu Yunsheng had ambushed three more people. He counted, and the long-faced man's companions were now down to sixteen, with a few more likely lost in other battles over the past two days.

Chu Yunsheng sat in the building, lit a cigarette, and waited for Colonel Du to leave so he could go collect the bodies of the red-eyed monsters. As soon as Colonel Du and his team left, Chu Yunsheng immediately threw away his cigarette and hurried to collect the bodies. If other red-eyed monsters smelled the blood and came, it would be a big problem.

Unfortunately, what he feared came to pass. Just as he finished collecting the bodies, he saw red light flashing in the mist. Upon closer inspection, there were at least thirty red-eyed monsters. Chu Yunsheng was shocked and quickly led Yao Xiang to retreat toward the nearest eastern mist wall.

Chu Yunsheng fought while retreating. Fortunately, Yao Xiang's Fire Wheel Slash provided support from behind, and Chu Yunsheng used the Thousand Cleave Sword for close combat. Although the monsters pounced in large numbers, they suffered heavy casualties under Chu Yunsheng's yuan energy-infused sword.

Seeing the increasing number of monsters, Chu Yunsheng suddenly burst into action, pulling Yao Xiang and sprinting away, not daring to fight any longer. Otherwise, both would be surrounded and surely die.

Just before reaching the mist wall, Chu Yunsheng threw Yao Xiang over, stabbing a red-eyed monster that was about to land on his head, and then pierced through the mist wall. Seeing him come out, Yao Xiang immediately followed the plan and re-entered the mist wall. They now appeared on the southern side of the mist wall in Zone 5.

The two searched Zone 5, avoiding clusters of red-eyed monsters, but found no trace of Colonel Du and his team.

Chu Yunsheng immediately crossed the mist wall again, searching through Zones 5, 1, 7, and 4. Finally, in Zone 9, he found Colonel Du's team.

Five days later, at Jinjiang Building, Colonel Du's resting place.

"Colonel, we have suffered heavy losses these past few days. Captain Gan's people are almost all dead!" Tao Zhaoren said worriedly. His own troops had a relatively low casualty rate, but for some reason, Gan Ziqiang's Jue Xin warriors had an extremely high death rate. If this continued, they would be wiped out before even leaving Kun City, let alone reaching Jinling City.

Du Qishan gazed intently at the mist outside the window, his brows furrowed, and said slowly, "Old Tao, don't you find it strange? Jue Xin warriors with the same abilities, our troops have survived several bloody battles, but Gan Ziqiang's people keep dying to the monsters?"

Tao Zhaoren nodded solemnly and said, "Yes, so I suspect someone is secretly sniping us. But why are they only targeting Gan Ziqiang and not our troops?"

Du Qishan smiled lightly and sighed, "I should have known it was him. He wouldn't give up so easily. When he retreated with heavy steps that day, I had a bad feeling. He's still following us!"

Tao Zhaoren was taken aback and asked, "Who is he?"

Du Qishan smiled bitterly and said, "Do you remember when we were outside Kun City, we found a skilled person? I wanted to recruit him, but he refused. Later, when he and Gan Ziqiang had a conflict, I intervened to stop him. He then retreated into the crowd, and I suspect he has been following us, waiting for the right moment to take revenge."

Tao Zhaoren was startled and quickly said, "You mean the person you told me about, Chu Yunsheng? The one who dared to challenge Gan Ziqiang and his twenty Jue Xin warriors alone!?"

Du Qishan nodded helplessly and said, "Yes, it's him. No one else could have tracked us for so long and still have the ability to ambush us without us knowing!"

Tao Zhaoren thought for a moment and then asked, "Colonel, what do you think his abilities are like?"

Du Qishan didn't hesitate and said, "I don't know. Maybe I underestimated him before, and now I know even less. But that's not important now! By the way, how is Professor Sun's research going?"

Tao Zhaoren nodded and replied, "The dimensional model of the Nine Palace Mist has been established. They are now working on the remaining equations. Without high-end computers, most of the calculations have to be done by hand, so it will take some time."

Du Qishan exhaled deeply and said, "That's good. We won't have to risk our lives crossing the mist walls anymore. Issue my order: from now on, until the scientists complete all the equations, no one is to step out of Jinjiang Building. Anyone who disobeys will be shot on the spot!"

Tao Zhaoren immediately straightened up, saluted, and said, "Yes, sir!"

Du Qishan turned and asked, "How many people does Gan Ziqiang have left?"

Tao Zhaoren immediately answered, "Including Gan Ziqiang himself, only five!"

Du Qishan narrowed his eyes, thought for a moment, and then said, "Gan Ziqiang is not stupid. He probably understands the situation better than we do. Have Zhou Wei keep an eye on them to prevent any trouble. If necessary, Gan Ziqiang can be sacrificed!"

Tao Zhaoren's expression hardened, and he said firmly, "Yes, sir!"

Chu Yunsheng had been lying in wait at Jinjiang Building for over twelve hours. Since Colonel Du and his team went in, they hadn't come out.

He had already successfully eliminated twelve more people, and with the long-faced man himself, there were now only five left.

"Brother Chu, have you thought about it? If we suddenly attack now, Colonel Du might not dare to stop us from killing the long-faced man," Yao Xiang, who rarely used his brain, said.

Chu Yunsheng nodded and said, "Yes, Colonel Du always prioritizes the military's interests. If there's any unnecessary loss, he won't do it. The situation is chaotic now, and he's not following the rules of the old days. I think even if we confront him directly, he will abandon the long-faced man to avoid a direct conflict and the loss of his own people. But once they reach Jinling City, he might not be able to hold back his anger!"

Yao Xiang smiled and said, "Then why are you hesitating? With Brother Ding as an insider and the two of us, Colonel Du won't have any options."

Chu Yunsheng exhaled a puff of smoke and looked at the building across from him, "Let's wait a bit longer. We'll take turns resting for six hours. If they don't come out, we'll be well-rested and ready to storm in and take his life. If Colonel Du tries to intervene, we'll have to fight with all our strength. We've been following them for so long, so these six hours don't matter."
