Chapter 7: The Power of a Single Arrow

Chu Yunsheng hurriedly sealed the yuanfu onto the crossbow. Using his fourth-dimensional divine consciousness, he communicated mysteriously with the crossbow through the yuan energy. He drew the bowstring, loaded an arrow, and, through the small opening in the window, he held his pounding heart and nervously aimed at the red-armored insect moving downstairs. During his idle time, Chu Yunsheng often used this high-end, high-precision crossbow, which cost him more than 3,000 yuan, to shoot at targets for fun. Although he didn't have much experience, he wasn't a complete novice.

Despite this, Chu Yunsheng's first arrow missed, and the ice-cold arrow with its icy attribute failed to activate. He was too nervous.

The speed of the three red-armored insects far exceeded that of humans. In an instant, they caught up to the crowd, cruelly clamping those who fell behind. Chu Yunsheng's harmless arrow was completely ignored by these proud insects.

When Chu Yunsheng shakily loaded the second arrow, the cries and screams of the crowd were already right below his building. There were about 11-12 people, and about five others had already been brutally killed by the three red-armored insects' pincers.

In the crowd, his neighbor from the tenth floor, with trembling hands, couldn't open the security door.

The red-armored insect, which had caught up again, pierced a fat man's body with its incredibly sharp legs, then lifted him up and threw him into the air as if playing with him.

Chu Yunsheng had little confidence in hitting a moving target, but he was confident about hitting a stationary one, especially one within 30 meters. He took a deep breath and locked onto the incredibly arrogant red-armored insect!

"Whoosh!"

The ice-cold arrow, carrying the cold energy of heaven and earth, shot forward at high speed!

The sharp sound of the arrow piercing the air made the red-armored insect glance toward Chu Yunsheng's window. In that split second, the 30-meter distance, combined with the power of the yuan energy, ensured that the arrow left the insect no chance to react. It effortlessly broke through the insect's fiery red protective shield and fiercely pierced its body.

The ice-cold yuan energy in the arrow caused the insect to emit a painful scream. Even the other two insects, which were still feeding on human brains, looked up in surprise at the screaming insect!

The ice-cold arrow quickly unleashed its terrifying power. Despite the insect's fiery attribute resisting to the death, it was rapidly frozen solid.

"Is it dead or not?" Chu Yunsheng, unsure of the ice-cold arrow's power, had never used it before. Seeing the insect frozen like an ice sculpture, he still couldn't be certain. He quickly loaded the third arrow, and with the experience from the first two, he was no longer as panicked.

The group, who had been on the brink of despair, suddenly saw this unexpected turn of events. The monster that had been like a demon was suddenly turned into an ice sculpture, and the immediate threat was removed. Like a drowning person grasping a straw, their desire to survive instantly burst forth!

A middle-aged man snatched the key from the trembling hands of the man from the tenth floor and calmly opened the door. The dozen or so people rushed in frantically, then collapsed on the stairs in the hallway, staring blankly at the ice sculpture of the red-armored insect and the broken bodies outside.

In the dim light, the people looked at each other in shock. After narrowly escaping death, they were all at a loss. The middle-aged man who opened the door was still relatively calm and said:

"Let's go, upstairs, there are still two outside!"

"Yes, yes, there's an expert upstairs who killed the monster with one shot. With an expert around, we should be safe!"

"Did you see which floor the shot came from?"

"Who would have the nerve to look? Did you see?"

"No, I didn't!"

...

The people chattered nervously, not daring to stay, and quickly climbed upstairs.

Chu Yunsheng was preparing to shoot the second red-armored insect. Just as he was about to pull the trigger, he noticed that the frozen insect was not completely dead. It was trembling, as if trying to break out of the ice!

Chu Yunsheng's mind raced. He must not give it a chance to revive. Now, killing one less insect was better, and the other two were already moving. With his skills, hitting a moving target was uncertain. Instead of wasting a shot, he decided to finish off the frozen insect.

The third arrow was shot without hesitation at the frozen red-armored insect. The ice-cold arrow shattered the ice, and the fierce insect was broken into countless small ice pieces, finally dead and reduced to nothing.

The other two insects' ferocity was fully unleashed by the death of their companion. They roared in anger, dropped the human heads they were feeding on, and rushed downstairs. One used its pincers to destroy the door, while the other quickly climbed up the wall toward Chu Yunsheng's sixth floor.

They've found me? Chu Yunsheng was not nervous this time. Instead, he had a resolve to fight to the death. Yes, either they die or I die!

Using the faint light from the vehicles on the street and the burning fires from the bombardment, Chu Yunsheng, through the infrared sight on his crossbow, clearly saw the two angry insects.

The fourth arrow was shot at the insect climbing the wall, hitting it and freezing it.

Chu Yunsheng initially planned to use the fifth arrow to quickly freeze the insect attacking the door, then use the time it took for the insect to break out of the ice to kill both insects.

After loading the fifth arrow, he realized the insect attacking the door was gone. From his position, he couldn't see if the door had been breached or if the insect had gone elsewhere.

With no choice, Chu Yunsheng decided to completely destroy the frozen insect in front of him and retreat inside.

If the military knew that two arrows could completely eliminate a red-armored insect, they would have likely conscripted him as a main force. Ordinary firearms were too difficult to use against these insects with protective shields.

Closing the window, Chu Yunsheng loaded the sixth arrow. He didn't know where the last insect was, so he held the crossbow, leaned against the wall, and prepared to deal with any insect that appeared.

He clearly felt that his yuan energy was running low. Except for the first arrow, which he shot in a panic without using yuan energy, the next four arrows had each consumed a large amount of his internal energy.

In the silence, he was shocked to realize he could only shoot one more ice-cold arrow before his yuan energy was exhausted.

He had been careless earlier, thinking he could kill all three insects with six ice-cold arrows. He had only managed five, and if the insects recovered faster than he did, he would have no chance of winning!

He needed to quickly restore his internal yuan energy. He believed his reinforced doors and windows could withstand the insects for a while. He also prepared his modified pistol and the only Li Fire Yuanfu he had. He was confident that once he hit the insect with an arrow, he could use the modified pistol or the Li Fire Yuanfu to finish it off while it was frozen.

The room was empty except for the necessary furniture, as he had stored everything else in the Wu Na Yuanfu. Chu Yunsheng sat on the table in the living room, focusing on restoring his yuan energy while listening for any sounds around him.

"An insect! The monster is coming up!" someone shouted in the hallway!

Chu Yunsheng jumped off the table. The last insect was indeed coming up the stairs!

The question was, should he go out and shoot the insect in the hallway, or wait for it to come to him and then shoot it with the crossbow?

Chu Yunsheng was not a military strategist or a seasoned fighter and couldn't quickly analyze the pros and cons. He needed time to think, but the insect's speed didn't allow him that luxury!

He could hear people running up the stairs past his door. With no electricity, the elevator was out of use, and they could only climb the stairs.

Chu Yunsheng made the boldest decision of his life. He opened the door, stood in the hall, and fixed the crossbow on the table, calmly aiming at the hallway exit. He was determined that as soon as the monster appeared, he would pull the trigger and freeze it. This was his only chance for victory!
