SS 30: The Couple Plotting to Revive the Literature Club

Translated by: chocolalaEdited by: soi been toe-few

“On second thought, instead of having to sneak around like this every day, why don’t we just revive the literature club and become members of it, so we can walk into the club room with no fear?”

Inside the literature clubroom, as usual, Yuzu suddenly blurted that out after we managed to sneak into the clubroom whilst avoiding a patrolling teacher—who we almost ran into in the corridor.

“Well, that’s true.”

Even though this place wasn’t off-limits, it wasn’t a good idea for a guy and a girl to be hanging out in a defunct club room for no reason.

“But it’s impossible with only the two of us. I think our school has to have at least four members in order to be considered a club,” I added.

“I can ask my friends to become ghost members. At times like these, it’s a good thing to have many friends.”

With that, the problem of insufficient members was solved. But there were still other things, though.

“As a club, you have to do some activities, but what does the literature club do?” I asked, and Yuzu thought for a while before answering.

“Well, you could publish a magazine, or write a novel and send it in for an award?”

“Can you write a novel…?”

“Impossible,” Yuzu answered immediately without hesitation.

“I also don’t think I can do that…”

I rather enjoyed reading a lot, but I had never written anything of my own. All of a sudden, the plan to revive the literary club had gone bust.

“Hm, if only we could make up something that looks like a novel, no one will check its contents. We can just randomly create anything, then there’s no problem, right?”

I frowned at Yuzu’s optimistic remark.

“You say it like it’s so easy… It’s something you’re going to show people. So, if you’re just going to randomly finish it, by the time you graduate, it’ll be your black history. Moreover, even if it’s done randomly, it will still take a lot of time to shape it up.”

This would naturally cut into my RPG playing time. I wouldn’t want to do that.

“We’ll be fine. The club will be allocated a club fund, and if the need arises, we can hire an outsourced writer.”

“You’re beginning to sound like an editor.”

Just what would happen to the ‘literature’ club… Well, we certainly could do that in the worst scenario, but other problems still remained.

“If we’re going to be a club, we’re going to have new members next spring. It’s not just the two of us then.”

We specifically chose this place to hang out so we could talk without being concerned about others’ eyes, since we were actually a fake couple. However, if there was going to be any other third party at this place, it would defeat the purpose. While thinking like this, I tried to reason with her, but for some reason, Yuzu started to smirk.

“Owh? So Yamato-kun is saying that he is sad to lose his time alone with me?”

She definitely knew what I was trying to say, yet she said something like that. What a troublesome woman.

Alas, I was not going to let her get her way.

“That’s right. It’s precisely because you always put up a facade in front of others. The only time I can see the cute narcissistic Yuzu like this, is when it’s just the two of us; so it’s a shame to lose all that time.”

“Huh….?!”

When I affirmed it with the perfect sales smile, Yuzu was totally taken by surprise and she yelped; her face reddened more and more.

“Ya-Yamato-kun… Very well said…!”

“Well, I was trained well by you-know-who.”

Bwahaha, I won! I inwardly shouted for joy, but then, Yuzu counterattacked with her blushing face.

“But, if a handsome junior joins the club, Yamato-kun would be drowned in worry too. You’d be so jealous once I started to show the side that I’ve only ever shown to you.”

“What did you say? Isn’t there also a chance for a cute literary-type girl to join? Wouldn’t you be as worried as you said I would?” I rebutted. Yuzu then shrugged her shoulders as if she stared at a helpless sight.

“Even if such a cute girl joins us, she won’t be interested in Yamato-kun anyway, so I don’t worry. You’re not popular, are you?”

Damn, she poked where it hurt.

“Y-you never know. If I do everything in my power to impress her, maybe it will work!”

“If you’ve got that kind of power, why don’t you use it on me?” Yuzu struck back with her eyes fixed on me.

“Well, you see, I’m the type who doesn’t feed the fish I catch…”

“I don’t have any memory of being fed even before you caught me.”

“Err, you’re a girl who somehow got caught even before I dropped the fishing hook…”

Once again, there were some really strange things in this world. As I was feeling strangely emotional, Yuzu puffed up her cheeks and pulled the hem of her dress.

“Yamato-kun, show me your best. Try to make me fall for you, with your best abilities!”

Extremely annoying.

“…If you say so, why don’t you try to make me fall for you first?”

“Hm?”

I decided to deflect the conversation in order to escape Yuzu’s annoying moves. “Come to think of it, I don’t remember you making a move on me either. You’ve got to start with yourself before you make demands for others.”

“Mmm… That’s true, but…”

“Am I right? If I truly fall in love with you, I’ll naturally try my best to win you over.”

“Now you say that, that’s true,” Yuzu nodded, looking convinced—like she had just seen the light.

I managed to pull this off!

“Then…I, Nanamine Yuzu will go first! I’ll surely make you fall for me!” Yuzu proclaimed with her hand upright.

“Alright, come on!” I also prepared myself to not be enraptured by her even, by the slightest chance.

“…”

“…”

Alas, no matter how long I waited, Yuzu did nothing.

When I began to wonder what this period of silence actually was, Yuzu softly opened her mouth, “Err, just what should I do to make a man fall for me?”

“From there?! Normally you’ve been acting like you’re so popular, what are you saying now, like you’re some kind of super-naive girl?!” I retorted, but Yuzu countered with quite an awkward tone.

“H-How can I help it! A girl as cute as me, and having a good personality like me, even if I do nothing special, I’m still popular! I’m the best at being natural, so I’ve never made any particular effort to be popular!”

“You really throw in the narcissism every chance you get! But that’s not going to work on me!”

When I told her about how her greatest weapon had no effect on me, Yuzu grunted in annoyance.

“Ughh…At a time like this, I…”

“At a time like this, you what?” I cornered her.

Yuzu tried to rack her brain for ideas and uttered with a distressed voice, “Use sexual charms…?”

Perhaps it was because she was cornered to a dead end, so she spat out a strategy that was not thought through at all.

“Um, that… that’s a bit…” I stuttered in response, as I was at a loss on how to react.

Then, Yuzu finally realized just what a blunder she had said. Again, she was red up to her ears.

“Huh, j-just now, umm…” Yuzu was unable to come up with an excuse, her thinking was completely halted.

In the meantime, I inadvertently glanced at Yuzu’s body. The bump on her chest was larger than average, and her dazzling thighs could be seen under her miniskirt.

“Ah! J-just now! You were leering at me with lewd eyes, didn’t you?!” Yuzu yelled as she made a gesture of covering herself with her arms. She was sensitive to such a gaze, probably since she was a popular girl after all.

“W-well… In the flow of our conversation just now, anyone would sneak a peek!” I falteringly but brazenly admitted it since I was picked on at such an awkward moment. My face was probably as red as Yuzu.

“O-oh, seems like my charm does work…”

“Isn’t that just a self-exploding move on your side…”

All because of Yuzu’s weird statements, the atmosphere around both of us had become completely awkward. We were at a loss as to how to continue the conversation, so silence reigned for quite a while. Eventually, Yuzu was the first to open her mouth while fidgeting.

“Say… If—I only say if—if I ever use sexual charms on you… Will it be effective?” Yuzu continued our conversation with a somewhat curious tone.

“What do you mean… by effective?” I inquired back since I couldn’t understand her intention from her question.

Yuzu shyly averted her eyes and explained, “Well, um… like, will you be enthralled when I use my sexual charms?”

“Th-That’s…”

Just what is this woman asking me! Doesn’t she think how totally awkward it would be if I really did say yes…? There’s only the two of us here, you know? There’s no one else okay? If—and only if—there is the slightest chance that I ever said yes… I wonder what Yuzu would really do? Would she really turn on her seductive move? If that really happens, I…

“I… won’t!” I answered last minute by using whatever was left of my wits.

“Is-Is that so…?” Yuzu replied with relief, but her voice seemed to be somewhat complicated, or even a little hurt before she further strangely asked in a dejected voice, “Am… Am I not charmful enough?”

“I don’t mean it like that. But… let’s think about it: if I went with the flow and something actually happened, Yuzu would be hurt in the end. That’s why I won’t respond to that.”

Perhaps I was affected by Yuzu who was unexpectedly sullen, so I ended up speaking my mind without garbling my words.

“Aa…U-um, I see.” Yuzu had a strange expression on her face—a mix of surprise and shyness.

Well, my embarrassment, on the other hand, was incomparable to hers. Damn it! Before I knew it, I was the one who felt ashamed.

“Time out! Let’s stop this topic here,” I suggested for us to change the topic since going any further would only be more damaging to both of us.

In response, Yuzu nodded a little joyfully as she said, “Yes, okay. I’ve also found out that Yamato-kun unexpectedly cherishes me, so I’ll leave it at that.”

“Cherish…? Are you dumb? This is normal ethics, you should know!” I tried to gloss over it to cover my embarrassment.

Then, Yuzu seemed to spot her chance, her eyes glinting. Ahh, I had a premonition.

“No-no, you don’t have to be so modest, you know? It just shows how much Yamato-kun cherishes me. How should I say… It felt like I just saw you at your best?”

“I didn’t show anything.”

“Really? So you really cherish me that much. I think my heart thumped a bit there. Personally, I felt so pleased.”

“Hey, I don’t need that!”

What the hell? Just when had the tables turned?

Like this, the day ended with me being wrapped around Yuzu’s finger, while on the other hand, she was so pleased.
