SS 28: The Couple Talking About Each Other’s Dreams
Translated by: chocolalaEdited by: soi been toe-few
“Speaking of which, Yamato-kun, what was your dream when you were a child?”
As usual, in the literature club room.
During the break between games, Yuzu suddenly brought up that topic.
“That’s totally out of the blue!”
I was guessing that she was mulling over the future, but Yuzu didn’t exactly have a heavy atmosphere as she talked; she was simply making an idle chat.
“Well, I was having such conversations with some friends in the classroom,” she said.
“Ohh, my dream back then was nothing out of normal. If I’m not mistaken, when I was in third grade in elementary school, I dreamed of having a job where I have a total holiday of 120 days per year1 and I can use my annual paid leave without obstruction, getting married to a cute lady and leading a normal, happy life.”
“In third grade?! What a sad child with no dream!”
“No, I was talking exactly about my dream, okay…?”
There are many ways for people to be happy, but aiming for a fairly solid form of happiness should not be a bad option. Yeah, I was not wrong, even as a child.
“Rather than me, what about you, Yuzu?”
When I returned the question to her, Yuzu started to talk as she smiled, immersed in nostalgia, “Me? I dreamed of entering the house of candy, even once is okay!”
“I see. In the real world, the closest thing to it might be Kumamoto castle. They made parts of the castle out of edible materials in preparation for a siege..”
“Really?!”
“Yep. Things like tatami mats are made of taro stalks.”
“It’s very much like preserved food, it doesn’t sound yummy at all!”
“Well, if you sweeten it when you simmer it, then it will be pretty much like candy. What do you think? Wanna go to Kumamoto?”
When I asked her, Yuzu’s expression became kind of sullen.
“I won’t… I’m sorry to Kumamoto castle lovers, but those are just similar but can never substitute sweets.”
I told her the fact with good intentions, but she said I had destroyed her dream instead. My bad.
“Geez, Yamato-kun, you’re a realist in a peculiar way. Anyway, how about now, what’s your current dream?”
“Getting a job with a total holiday of 100 days per year and at least I can take days off during Obon holiday2 and new year3. Also, getting married to someone with a nice personality, with whom I won’t feel tired when we’re together.”
“The dream is all gone.”
“Hey, this is my dream.”
But wait, it was certainly better to have more annual holidays. I should aim for at least 105 days of holiday.
“How about you, Yuzu? Do you have any dreams now?” I passed the question to her again.
Yuzu’s eyes sparkled as she gleefully answered, “Well, well, I’m going to make Yamato-kun fall in love with me so much that he won’t be able to live without me!”
“Oh, I see… In that case, then my dream of having a wife with a good personality will not come true. We’ll be rivals, crushing each other’s dreams.”
So sad. Just why do two people who love each other so much have to fight. I was internally lamenting the incredulity of this world when suddenly Yuzu glared at me with cold eyes.
“Hey you, you can still have both, can’t you?” Yuzu started talking strangely.
I mulled over it a bit and then nodded as I had figured it out, “Oh, yes. I can have Yuzu introduce me to a girl. Yuzu knows a lot of people, so that’s an easy task. To even have you help me in this aspect, indeed I can’t live without Yuzu.”
I interpreted Yuzu’s statement in my own way and accepted her idea, yet Yuzu only got into a worse mood.
“Hey you, do I even have to introduce you to others when you have a cute girl with a good personality right here?”
Again, Yuzu was speaking about strange things.
“No way… Are you talking about the heroine in the game we’re playing? You see Yuzu, I’m not the type who marries 2D girls.”
“YOUU!!” Yuzu finally erupted and poked my sides with both her hands.
“Whoa, wai-that tickles! That’s a foul to attack my sides!”
“S-H-U-T U-P!”
*pokes* *pokes* *pokes*
“Okay, I give up! My bad!”
Not until I raised both arms in surrender did Yuzu stop her attack on me. Her face remained grumpy.
“…Yamato, you idiot!”
She eventually sulked and sat down in a corner of the Literature club’s room while hugging her knees.
“Hey… In the first place, if you didn’t mess with me, it wouldn’t become like this.”
*pouts* Yuzu puffed her cheeks exaggeratingly, a pose that begged for attention.
I couldn’t simply leave her be, so I approached her and asked, “So, what is Yuzu’s real dream?”
When I got back to our original topic, Yuzu thought for a while and averted her face from me before she gave me her answer.
“…I wanna have a kind boyfriend who wouldn’t be mean to me,” she said in a sulky but coquettish tone.
Again, she just had to have this weirdly adorable quip that made it hard for me to respond.
“I got it. I’ll try to make that come true.”
I softly gripped her hands. As if that had lifted her mood, she then looked at me shyly.
“…Um, I’m looking forward to it.”
Yuzu’s subtle abashed smile was so cute it nearly took my breath away.
chocolala: Geez, I really want the author to make a special chapter with time skip to when they’re already married and Yuzu still teasing Yamato.
Footnotes
This includes weekends and public holidays, in short, a company with no extra holidays. A reference: the company I work at has nearly 130 holidays per year, and that’s relatively a lot coz we have week-long summer holiday and new year holiday, lolObon is somewhere mid August, where they would go to the tombs to respect the dead, so Japanese would go back to their hometowns. Some company would allocate week-long holiday in this period or simply 2 days.New year holiday is also a few days long since Japanese usually would also go back to their hometowns or travel somewhere for new year celebration and have family gatherings, just think of it like Chinese New Year but Japanese style that is celebrated on Jan 1st. It’s rare to see fireworks for new year celebrations. Instead, they ring the bell in the temples, eat new year delicacies and then do shrine visits.
