Chapter 26

11 min read2,630 words

"Are you really that shameless!"

The protagonist succubus suddenly stepped back. The "Protection from Arrows" magic on her armor activated. At the same time, over a dozen arrows shot from the crossbows around the room. As they approached the succubus, they were deflected by an invisible force field and fell to the ground. At the same moment, the shelves on both sides of the shop flipped and disappeared into the walls, replaced by over a dozen stone golems that looked like human statues.

Two special constructs, plus over a dozen stone golems, instantly filled the entire shop. Moreover, there were countless traps in the room.

"Sure, sure." Yorgros' humble laughter came from behind the steel plate, which made the succubus even angrier. However, actions speak louder than words. The combat power of the stone golems was definitely not weak, and those two constructs looked very formidable. This was, after all, someone else's territory. Who knew what other tricks he had up his sleeve...

Thinking of this, the succubus instinctively took a step back—only to find that the door, which should have been there, had disappeared. She turned around sharply and saw a smooth, mirror-like wall, made of some unknown material, definitely not the broken wooden boards she had seen before.

"Are you sure you've got me cornered? Waiting for me to walk into your trap? Huh." With no way out, the succubus calmed down—so what if it was just two constructs, a dozen stone golems, and a Yorgros demon? Grandmother! I'll take them all down!

Seeing the succubus's eager expression, Yorgros was slightly surprised and then chuckled. In his laughter, he removed the steel plate, parted the two large constructs and the dozen stone golems that were protecting him, and walked alone to the succubus.

His seemingly suicidal behavior made the succubus unsure of what to do.

"Relax, guest." Delmonte said, "To be honest, I have no intention of being your enemy or harming you."

"Then what do you want?" The succubus asked, still maintaining her guard.

"Business." Delmonte said, "Everything is business. A troublesome customer gave me a difficult task. I solved it for him. But it wasn't because I liked him or wanted to harm you. Everything is just following the highest principle of the Yorgros demons."

"The highest principle of the Yorgros demons is business?" The succubus asked.

"Yes." Delmonte nodded, "It involves a bit of our clan's philosophy, which is—"

"—I'm not interested in your philosophy, get to the point." The succubus was somewhat impatient.

"The point is, guest, what can I offer you?" Delmonte repeated his previous question.

The succubus narrowed her eyes, "Are you messing with me?"

"No, no, no." Delmonte shook his head, "Perhaps I can offer you some packages—see, this new term I learned from some bards in another part of the multiverse.

If you want me to help you completely hide your tracks, I can do it. If you want to hire guards to protect your safety, I can provide you with a whole team of Yorgros demon mercenaries. Even if you want to kill Syd, I can find you the best assassins and killers. But the price is steep. What I mean is—"

"—You treat everything as business. Whether it's betraying me or betraying Syd, you won't have any psychological pressure. I understand your point." The succubus nodded.

"Talking about betrayal is too harsh." The Yorgros merchant said, "You can look at it from another angle. This is the service I provide to my customers. As a merchant, I try to make every customer satisfied, even if they are enemies."

"You are my enemy too." The succubus reminded him.

"Your words hurt, guest. Or do you think the service I provided you before was not good enough?" The Yorgros merchant smiled.

"But you betrayed me!" The succubus shouted.

"No." Delmonte said, "That was a different business with another customer. To be honest, it has nothing to do with you."

"Huh." The succubus laughed, "You want to use this twisted logic to persuade me not to take revenge on you?"

"No, I rely on my sincerity and thorough service to customers." Delmonte said, bowing, "If you want to live better in Narathel, or even in the entire Abyss, you need the help of us Yorgros merchants."

...

In the end, the succubus decided to accept Delmonte's help—of course, she secretly vowed that if she ever got the chance, she would not hesitate to take down this despicable merchant.

Thus, the constructs and stone golems returned to their original positions, and the walls and floor flipped back, revealing the shelves and their goods. The succubus followed the attentive Delmonte into the back room of the shop.

This time, Delmonte didn't wander around but went directly to a counter with various bottles and jars. He picked up a glass bottle and said to the succubus:

"This is the favorite of the highest-level wanderers, assassins, and killers. Just a few drops in the water when you bathe, and all your body odors will disappear. You should know that demons have a habit of keeping dogs, so you'll find this useful."

"Is it harmful to the body?" The succubus asked.

Delmonte didn't answer but opened the bottle and rubbed some on himself. Then, as if drinking, he took a swig of the stuff.

"Alright, I get it." The succubus nodded, "But I won't buy the one you drank from."

"That's a display item. The one I sell you will be a different one." Delmonte said.

"I want you to take a sip from the one you sell me." The succubus immediately changed her mind.

"Ha ha ha." Delmonte laughed and continued walking as if nothing had happened.

The Yorgros merchant stopped at the next counter, which held various masks and face coverings.

He picked up a silver mask from the counter.

"Do I have to wear a mask to hide my identity? That seems too low-level." The succubus complained.

"This is not an ordinary mask." The Yorgros merchant put the mask on his face. Immediately, the mask stuck to his face as if glued.

Then, the mask began to flow like water, reshaping itself. In the next moment, the Yorgros merchant's face changed. The large wolf head became a standard elf, then a human, and finally a dwarf.

After demonstrating the mask's function to the succubus, the Yorgros merchant took it off and said, "With this, you can change your appearance at any time. It's more like a disguise and has a physical form, not an illusion. So even a True Seeing spell can't penetrate the disguise. It's a very useful item."

"Has this been used before?" The succubus asked.

"Similarly, this is a display item. The one I sell you will be a different one."

"Hmm... Will it suddenly sprout eight legs, attach to my head, and turn me into a vampire?" The succubus asked.

"There's no such setting."

"Will it stick to my face and become part of me, so I have to peel off my skin to remove it?"

"There's no such setting."

"Actually, this mask is a facehugger, and you're not a Yorgros demon but an alien, right?"

"Please don't say things that would collapse the world view, I beg you."

"In short, I don't want it. Just give me a new, ordinary silver mask that no one has used."

"Can it automatically maintain magic? If you don't want to use something someone else has used, I can make a new one for you."

"No, just a regular mask without magic."

"Guest, that's too disappointing. I promise not to leave any backdoors in the product."

"You said it yourself before I even mentioned it, you bastard."

Next, they came to the third counter. Unlike the previous two, this counter held only one item.

It was a pale red longsword.
