Chapter 4

Although he was a second-generation demon, the protagonist Quemo still cherished his life. He didn’t have the bizarre idea that “since this life is a bonus, it doesn’t matter how I waste it.” From being a larva to a Quemo, he had only lived for three days. He hadn’t killed anyone or done anything else. If he were to die like this, he would feel wronged.

He tiptoed and cautiously moved backward, inch by inch. The further he moved, the less the negative energy that made his scalp tingle affected him.

Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief and say, “I’ve escaped with my life,” a small stone, for some reason, fell from the nearby cliff and landed right in front of Quemo.

Quemo was startled— he clearly heard the red fat guy exclaim “Huh?!” from over a hundred meters away. Although he couldn’t see it, the ground-shaking footsteps told him that the red fat guy had definitely turned around, heading straight for Quemo’s location.

“Am I going to die today?!” Quemo thought.

Just as Quemo was about to be scared to death, the red fat guy made a surprising move: “Come out! I see you!” Quemo, hearing this, decided to be a man. He steeled his heart and stood up, shouting in the direction of the red fat guy:

“So what if you saw me? Why are you telling me this? Kill me or whatever—hey?”

Before Quemo could finish his sentence, he realized he had made a mistake. He saw the space around the red fat guy, a hundred meters away, distort. A circle of demons appeared and surrounded him, led by a Mesmerizer.

The Mesmerizer had a dog’s head and a beast’s body, with two normal-sized arms and two deformed large pincers. Its upper body was covered in a shell, making it look like a giant demon wearing a crab shell.

After they appeared, the Mesmerizer chuckled and said to the red fat guy, “I didn’t expect to be discovered so easily, Ochus.”

“Scared me to death, you weren’t talking about me...” Quemo slowly, slowly retreated behind the rock. Meanwhile, he continued to hear their conversation:

“Cut the crap, Azes! If you want to fight, come on. I’ll crush your balls!”

“Damn, you’re so cocky?! Just because you’re a Balor?”

“A Balor isn’t just great, it’s very great!”

“So what? Now I have more people!”

“More people, so what?”

“More people isn’t just great, it’s very great!”

In the Abyss, apart from succubi and their upgraded versions, the Incubi, most demons were not good with words. They were absolute action-oriented beings. As Quemo slowly retreated, the two groups had already started fighting.

Quemo listened to the sounds of the battle, thinking, “Perfect, I’ll take this opportunity to run.” He crawled backward on the ground.

Then he felt something was wrong. He looked up and saw a huge claw descending from the sky. Instinctively, he did a rather embarrassing action. At the same time, he vaguely heard a voice:

“You have automatically learned the active skill ‘Crouch and Cover.’ In this state, your defense level (natural) +3, you cannot move, and you cannot attack.”

Quemo blushed— he had heard it clearly.

So he instinctively stood up with a “whoosh” and hit his head on the palm of the hand... it hurt.

He looked up and saw that the claw had plunged into the ground. The claw had several spikes on it, like a prison, trapping him in the middle.

The claw glowed blue, looking like it was forged from steel. Out of curiosity, Quemo touched it. He didn’t feel it, but his fingertip hurt and a cut appeared. It was incredibly sharp. He then noticed his finger was swollen and numb— it was a poisoned claw.

Quemo quickly pulled back his hand, sucking his finger and thinking, “The knife Yang Zhi sold back then wasn’t much better than this.” He then marveled at his good fortune, thinking that such a thing falling from the sky and hitting his head didn’t hurt him at all. His hidden luck attribute must be 18.

He spat out a mouthful of black blood and felt better— luckily, his resistance to Obilith poison was high.

Quemo couldn’t help but think, “Is this claw fake?” But then he remembered. As he looked up and saw the claw descending, he heard a scream that drowned out all other sounds on the battlefield: “My delicate hands! Ochus, you bastard, I won’t let this go!”

Thinking about this, Quemo felt goosebumps— looking at the size and power of the claw, how could it be delicate or delicate hands? What demon said that, how shameless!

After that, Quemo decided to run as fast as possible. Staying in this unlucky place any longer, who knew what other misfortune he might encounter? He had to run as far as possible while he was still unharmed.

Quemo thought this as he carefully moved past the side of the claw, trying to avoid being cut.

Quemo was highly focused, hoping to escape. But he didn’t know that the battle on the front line had changed.

The red fat guy named Ochus, swinging his club, had indeed killed many demons. However, the other side had more people, and some were quite powerful. For example, the Mesmerizer who had spoken to Ochus at the beginning and the Quasit with a large claw, which Ochus had torn off with brute force, were unexpectedly strong.

He was frustrated: The Mesmerizer was understandable, being a high-level demon and having spoken to him before, even if he was weak in Ochus’s eyes, he was still decent by average standards.

—But who can explain when the Abyss’s Quasit became so strong?! A mere Level 9 demon, where did it get such strength?! That large claw could grab stones like tofu, crumbling them with a single grab, trying to scare the hell out of me? Fortunately, I disabled one of them. Otherwise, it would have been troublesome— and what delicate hands— damn it! Not enough to disgust me.

Thinking this, Ochus was distracted and was scratched by a Quasit. The wound was deep, oozing black blood, and half his arm was numb.

This couldn’t go on! Ochus, seeing that he was at a disadvantage, became anxious. He thought: You have more people. I’ll let you have more people— I have plenty of people too!

He had an idea and swung his club, forcing the surrounding demons back. He took a step back, recited a spell, and a dark red portal appeared.

Then, a Balor, wielding a flaming whip and a decapitating sword, emerged from the portal— this was one of Ochus’s signature skills, and also a natural ability of most Tanar’ri demons, “Summon Tanar’ri Demon.”

Tanar’ri demons could use this ability to summon other Tanar’ri demons as allies during battles.

Similar summoning abilities exist in the main plane. The strength of the summoned demons depends on the summoner’s power. A demon as powerful as the red fat guy, with strength comparable to a demon lord, could summon a Balor in one go!

The appearance of the Balor changed the situation. Despite being restrained by another Balor, which made him a bit uncomfortable, his innate combat nature made him excitedly charge at the other group of demons. He immediately engaged in battle with the Quasit that had lost a claw— or so-called delicate hands.

With this powerful enemy being distracted, Ochus’s pressure was greatly reduced, and he quickly gained the upper hand over the Mesmerizer named Azes.

Azes, seeing the situation, thought: You can summon, I can summon too— he found an opportunity, took a step back, and used the “Summon Tanar’ri Demon” skill.

His strength and rank were much lower than Ochus’s, so he couldn’t summon a Balor in one go. The portal opened, and only a Mesmerizer, a dozen Quemos, and two Quasits emerged.

“Ha ha ha, these weaklings aren’t even enough to fill my teeth!” Ochus, seeing the weak reinforcements, couldn’t help but laugh.

Azes, seeing this, felt embarrassed and gritted his teeth, charging at Ochus again. He shouted to the other demons, “What are you looking at?! Summon more demons quickly!”

Following his order, the demons around him began to use the “Summon Tanar’ri Demon” skill.

A six-armed snake demon could summon one to four Manes, another six-armed snake demon, or a Succubus or a Mesmerizer.

A Succubus could summon one to four Manes, another Succubus, or a Mesmerizer.

A Mesmerizer could summon one to four Manes, a Succubus, another Mesmerizer, or a six-armed snake demon.

A Mane could summon one to four Quemos or another Mane.

A Quemo could summon another Quemo...

This summoning, summoning, and more summoning. The summoned demons summoning more demons, and the summoned demons summoning even more demons. More and more and more...
