Chapter 55

The protagonist, a succubus, knew that throughout a demon's life, they would do many things—good and bad, right and wrong. Some things would make them proud and smug for a lifetime, while others would leave them feeling disgruntled for the rest of their days. In every moment of the future, they would constantly regret: "Why did I do such a thing back then?"
Most of these regrets only become apparent in hindsight. But this particular instance, the succubus regretted it right away—why did he mention to the middle-aged vampire, "Hurry up and run"?
Why did he have to warn the middle-aged vampire? He didn't care if the vampire died. But now, things had gone wrong. The succubus ran ahead, thinking his speed and stamina were good enough to escape easily. But after a few steps, he heard the shouts of pursuit behind him, not diminishing at all.
The succubus turned around and exclaimed, "Oh, come on!" He saw the middle-aged vampire with a look of "I just need to run faster than you!" on his face, chasing him relentlessly.
Behind the middle-aged vampire were over a hundred various demons, all with their fangs bared, hot on their heels. Arrows, crossbow bolts, javelins, throwing axes, ice storms, magic missiles, and acid arrows were constantly flying from behind, landing not far from the vampire. Occasionally, some would be blown by the wind or misfired, grazing past the succubus's ears.
Although these attacks didn't harm the succubus, he was still anxious and turned to shout at the vampire, "Don't follow me! Take another route!"
Of course, while shouting, he didn't slow down his running.
The middle-aged vampire's response was firm and resolute: "Impossible! If I die, you die with me!"
Of course, while speaking, the vampire didn't slow down either.
"You're so evil!" The succubus looked heartbroken, "People say that when a person is about to die, they speak kindly. You've done so many bad things in your life, can't you do one good thing before you die?!"
"Dragging you down with me is the best good thing I can think of!"
"Asshole! Ungrateful! You'll die a bad death and go straight to hell!"
"Do you think we're in heaven?!"
In short, no matter how the succubus tried to persuade, it was useless. The middle-aged vampire was determined to chase after him.
As the vampire chased the succubus, the demons chased the vampire. The three parties ran like mad, covering an unknown distance, with the wind and snow getting heavier. The curses between the vampire and the succubus grew louder.
Although the vampire had put aside his dignity, he was still a gentleman, a gentleman. In terms of vocabulary, he was no match for the succubus, who had a street fighter background. At first, he had a slight advantage due to his momentum, but soon he was overwhelmed and was scolded by the succubus.
"Shut up!"
Naturally, the succubus heard the vampire shout this.
"Are you telling me to shut up? Who do you think you are?!" The succubus naturally didn't listen.
"Shut up, I said!"
"I don't care!"
"You idiot! Didn't you hear that sound?!"
"What sound?"
The succubus followed the vampire's gaze and saw a mountain covered in snow for thousands of years, collapsing under pressure, sound waves, and the forces of nature.
"…Oh, come on." The succubus was surprised for half a second.
The avalanche, with a power comparable to a 12th-level arcane spell, made the succubus, the vampire, and the demons stop in their tracks.
"Ah!" The succubus shouted in surprise.
"Stop shouting!" The vampire shouted even louder.
"Ah ah ah!" The succubus continued to shout.
"I said, stop shouting!" The vampire shouted even louder.
"Ah ah ah ah ah!" The succubus shouted until his voice was hoarse.
"Stop shouting! Do you want the avalanche to get bigger?!" The vampire felt his voice was about to collapse.
"Your voice is much louder than mine." The succubus instantly returned to his normal state and said to the vampire.
"Why aren't you worried at all?" The vampire was puzzled.
"Because I can fly." The succubus said matter-of-factly.
"Oh, oh, actually, I can fly too." The vampire smiled and replied.
After that, when the massive avalanche, like a giant monster, rushed towards them, the succubus and the vampire took to the air simultaneously. One cast a flight spell on himself, and the other transformed into a bat.
The two flew into the air, leaving the demons on the ground stunned—how could this be? You two were the loudest just now, and now you can fly and are fine, but we have to bear the brunt?! Is there any justice in this abyss?!
Thus, the vampire and the succubus flew in the air, hearing the demons below shouting, "Damn bastards." These shouts were usually only half-finished because before they could finish their curses, thousands of tons of snow had already rushed towards them, instantly burying them all.
"Really, that's why everyone in the world wants to fly. Flying is just more convenient than walking." The succubus hovered in the air, watching the enemies on the ground be completely wiped out, feeling his image was incredibly grand. Beside him, the vampire, in bat form, couldn't speak but made meaningful chirping sounds in agreement.
After floating in the air for a while, they landed on the ground again once the snow slope had calmed down.
At this point, the enemies were nowhere to be found. They were all buried under dozens of meters of snow. The ground was once again a vast white expanse. The wind had stopped, and the snow had ceased. The ice sea presented a rare scene of calm and sunny weather. The sky was high and clear, with a rainbow halo around the sun, and the sunlight reflected off the snow, creating a dazzling glow.
Everything looked so harmonious, in stark contrast to the frantic escape and the avalanche. The succubus and the vampire were speechless. After a while, the succubus bent down, grabbed a handful of snow, and formed a snowball, throwing it at the vampire.
"What are you doing?"
"Childhood memories, this reminds me of when I was human." The succubus shrugged and said, "Boss, what do we do now?"
"Do you still consider me your boss?" The vampire frowned.
"Of course, until you pay off the commission you owe me, you will always be my boss." The succubus pledged his loyalty to the vampire.
"What if I keep delaying the payment, will I always be your boss?"
"Don't worry, if you keep delaying, I'll find a chance to stab you to death."
The succubus's blunt words actually made the vampire relax. He first sat on the ground, then lay down in a "big" shape, looking like he was inviting an attack, which made the succubus frown and hesitate whether to say "not interested."
In the end, the succubus didn't say that. Modern slang wasn't a good thing. Using terms others didn't understand would only make them feel confused, and he would feel awkward too. So he just kicked the vampire's butt and then lay down on the snow in the same posture.
The two lay there for a while, and just as the vampire was wondering if the succubus had frozen to death, the succubus suddenly leaped up, "I just remembered something!"
"What is it?" The vampire slowly got up and asked.
"Why aren't you a woman?"
"Why should I be a woman?"
"No, look, we just fought together, ran for our lives, watched the avalanche, and survived. So, why aren't you a woman?"
"Does that matter?" The vampire looked at the succubus blankly.
"It matters! It matters a lot." The succubus slapped his thigh, "All stories are like this! A handsome guy like me needs to be paired with a sexy and beautiful woman, not a washed-up middle-aged man like you!"
"If that were the case, I'd want it too. I was thinking, why aren't you a woman?" The vampire said weakly. He had realized that the key to dealing with the succubus was not to get too excited and not to respond too much. The more excited he got, the more the succubus would take advantage.
After realizing this, the vampire decided to try responding in a weak and listless tone, thinking it would make the succubus less cocky.
