Chapter Twelve

Sitting alone at the table, she exuded a serene yet solitary aura. Her entire body was enveloped in a large, flowing mage robe. However, from her petite and youthful figure, it was clear that she was a young girl. In front of her was a glass of unknown orange juice. At that moment, she lowered her head, tucking her face into the hood, making it impossible to see her true appearance.

OMG, what was she holding? I wiped my eyes carefully, and I didn’t see wrong. Thank goodness, it was a bone staff. This was the first time I had seen a mage’s weapon.

Mage weapons were generally very precious, whether because of their drop rate or the attributes they carried. Unlike melee weapons, even a plain white mage staff could have some very useful skill attributes. A good white mage staff could sometimes be more valuable than a golden mage staff. This might be why the drop rate for mage staves was so low.

And what she held in her hand was a bone staff, the preferred weapon of necromancers. Oh my God, how did she not get killed by those jealous necromancers?

Perhaps she heard my footsteps, her body suddenly trembled. Her already petite figure curled up even more, like a cat. Her hands, holding the bone staff, were a bit pale.

"Excuse me, can I sit here?"

I tried to speak in a gentle tone. It seemed that this girl, who appeared to be a young girl, was about to burst out. Her bone staff was poised to strike me at any moment, and I felt a bit stuck. I couldn’t just turn around and leave; that would be a matter of male pride.

"Please... please do."

She tightened her body, shrinking back even further, and finally stammered a response.

What a fresh and sweet voice. She must be a young girl, and probably a beautiful one at that. I thought to myself. A good voice could make even an ordinary-looking girl more appealing. So, unless she looked absolutely terrible, she must be a beauty.

I sat down next to her without hesitation, ordering a low-alcohol malt beer from the waiter. Fortunately, Lar had given me a few gold coins before he left, so I wouldn’t have to worry about food and lodging for a few days if I was frugal.

I glanced at the girl next to me. She still looked uneasy, her hands gripping the bone staff tightly. Was I that scary?

"My name is Wu Fan, I’m 23 years old, and I’m a newly turned druid."

Perhaps because I was well-behaved after sitting down, or because of my gentle tone, the girl hesitated for a moment before finally responding from under her large hood.

"Linya Aider Splendor, a wizard, I... I turned two months ago." Her voice was slightly hurried and uneasy, clearly still nervous. Sigh, was my charm not enough?

"Uh~~" I almost spat out the malt beer I had just sipped. Did I hear that right? A wizard?

When I saw her holding the bone staff, I naturally assumed she was a necromancer. I didn’t expect her to be a wizard.

But thinking about it, it wasn’t that strange. It was already good to get a weapon drop, and to hope for one specific to your class would be greedy. On the way here, I even saw a few mages wielding wooden sticks and daggers, looking like shadow assassins.

Even a bone staff was better than the rough wooden staff given to new mages, both in terms of physical attack and weight. So it wasn’t impossible for a wizard to have a bone staff. I was the one overreacting.

Still, wasn’t it a bit of a waste? This was the dream weapon of necromancers, maybe even one with multiple skills, and it was being used as a club by a wizard.

"Wow, you’re amazing. You look so young, probably only 17 or 18, and you’ve already turned. I’m 23, and I turned two months after you. They call me a genius, but I think I’m just a natural fool!" To cover up my embarrassment, I said with a mix of truth and sarcasm. Honestly, seeing her age was a bit of a blow.

"Ha..." She was indeed a naive girl, and such a common joke made her laugh.

"Ah, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t... I didn’t mean to laugh at you." After laughing, she realized it was inappropriate and quickly stood up, bowing repeatedly to me.

As she raised her head, I finally saw her face hidden under the hood.

What a pure and innocent face.

A few strands of slightly curly dark green hair fell from the edge of her hat. Her sky-blue eyes were clear and pure, her fair and translucent skin, and her small, slightly pursed cherry lips gave a first impression of sweetness, then honey, and then a sweet aroma that spread throughout the body, creating a feeling of fondness.

Undoubtedly, this was a beauty that could make any normal man want to protect her, and any lolicon would howl with madness.

"Ah, it’s nothing, don’t bow anymore, you might hurt your back."

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry..." After I spoke, the beauty bowed many more times before stopping, but then said something that made me boil with excitement.

"I... I’m fine. Although we’re not like warriors, mages also do some training. My waist is very flexible, I won’t hurt it, please don’t worry."

If anyone else had said this, I would have thought they were boasting. But from the beauty’s mouth, it was clear that she was trying to comfort me, with no intention of showing off.

There were still such pure and lovely women in this world!

Seeing me stunned, the beauty thought I didn’t believe her. Her face turned red, and she bit her lip, as if making a decision.

"I’m not lying, if you don’t believe me, you... you can touch it..." Her entire face turned red as if on fire, but she still stepped forward resolutely, presenting her slender waist to me.

Looking at her white, adorable face, red like a persimmon, her small, upturned nose flaring with nervousness, and her breathing quickening, causing her chest to rise and fall under her large mage robe, it was clear she was trying to prove that she wasn’t as petite as she looked.

OMG, a scene that could kill anyone. At that moment, I really wanted to touch her—of course, not her waist, but her small head. Such a cute girl deserved any man’s tenderness.

So, my right hand reached out and gently rubbed her head through her mage hat.

After a while, I realized my action was too bold when I saw the beauty still staring at me in a daze. I smiled awkwardly and withdrew my right hand.

"Sit down, sit down, don’t stand all the time." I said, taking charge.

"Um, ah, okay, okay, thank you..." The beauty suddenly came to her senses, sitting down abruptly, her head lowered even lower than before. Her pale hands twisted the bone staff continuously, making me worry if its durability would drop to zero.

Seeing the beauty’s innocent and uneasy demeanor, I immediately started chatting, telling a few jokes from my world. The simple girl couldn’t resist the attacks of a seasoned internet user like me. At first, she could only lower her head and remain silent, but soon she couldn’t help but laugh, her eyes squinting and never fully opening. I had to admit, the beauty looked incredibly beautiful when she laughed. From her appearance, it seemed she had received good education, and her every smile and frown exuded a special grace.

Unlike the humor of the Dark Continent, and given that the girl seemed naive, the beauty quickly became very happy with my jokes. Although she still didn’t dare to look me in the eye, at least she no longer spoke with a shy and timid manner, and the conversation became more lively.

"Linya, isn’t it true that anyone who turns before 30 is considered a genius? You’re only 18 and already a turner, and you still say you’re not a genius. What does that make me?"

Unconsciously, I had moved to sit only a foot away from the beauty. Her faint, sweet fragrance had already filled my senses, and I could never get enough of it.

Linya, unaware that she was already half in the wolf’s den, blushed and lowered her head again.

"That’s not true, Mr. Fan. Did you know that mages generally turn faster than warriors? Warriors can only turn through hard training, while mages, in addition to training, can also benefit greatly from good bloodlines. So, it’s not uncommon for someone to turn into a mage at 18." Linya said, biting her lip.

"Oh, I see." I was enlightened, and my wounded heart felt much better. There was another factor at play, something Lar had never told me.

While what Linya said was true, mages with good bloodlines could indeed turn faster than other classes. However, for Linya to turn at 18 was still quite impressive. It required good bloodlines, hard work, and talent. There were 18-year-old mages, but they were not common, and each of them was already revered by all mages. So, calling Linya a genius among geniuses was not an exaggeration. At least, she was much more talented than a certain lucky dog...
