Chapter 21 of 100

Chapter 21

8 min read2,068 words

As the door of the bar creaked open, a long shadow cast by the setting sun stretched inside. Doug seemed to sense something and threw the cloth in his hand, turning his head forcefully.

"You finally came back, you brat. Damn, you made me go without speaking for over an hour." Doug, seeing me still standing at the door in a daze, pounced on me fiercely, pounding my shoulders while his raspy voice tortured my ears.

"Uh, sorry, I went out for a bit and got lost. I just got back."

I wiped my eyes and grinned, clearly speechless at Doug's "gentle" greeting.

"Huh? What's wrong, Wu? What happened?"

Doug, noticing my unusual behavior, asked curiously. It seemed he could be attentive at times.

"Nothing." I wiped my eyes again. "The sunset today is really damn blinding!"

"Haha... Wu, you didn't stare at the sunset the whole time, did you? Haha..."

Doug laughed heartily. I said, you can mock me, but can't you do it a bit more quietly? Do I have to suffer both mentally and physically? I was just moved for a few minutes.

"By the way, where's Gao?"

To stop Doug from continuing to torture my ears, I had to immediately bring up the question I had been holding back.

"He went out to look for you. He's been searching for a while now, and he should be back soon."

Damn, after just putting me down, you want to make me feel moved again? No way. Not even the window.

Doug and I casually chose a table to sit down. Seeing Doug sit, I was quite conflicted about where to sit.

Sitting next to Doug, I'd have to endure his noise. Sitting across from him, I'd have to endure his spittle. After some thought, I carefully chose a position 120 degrees away from him, thinking this would be the best spot.

But as fate would have it, Doug turned his face to me as soon as I sat down. A flood of nonsense, mixed with droplets of spittle, poured out. I wanted to cry but couldn't. If I had known this, I would have chosen to sit directly across from him.

Just as I was about to be overwhelmed by Doug's bombardment, the great Gao finally returned. What a good person, you'll surely become a hero to save the dark continent. I was so moved that tears welled up in my eyes.

Gao glanced at the person lying on the table, on the brink of death, and a smile flickered in his eyes.

"Gao, you're finally back!"

Seeing my savior, I immediately walked up to him, grabbing his hand as if a central leader was inspecting.

"Welcome, welcome, warmly welcome..."

I was dazed, accidentally using a phrase from my old world.

"Where were you just now?" Gao sat down and asked curiously, having almost walked around the entire Rogue Camp.

"Oh, I was at the fountain for a while."

"No wonder..."

Gao thought I had gotten lost (which was true) and didn't expect me to be so close to the bar. He sighed, saying the most dangerous place is the safest, and that's why he couldn't find me.

Seeing no one around, Doug, who had been bored in this place, called the bartender to pay the bill, and the three of us left the bar. During his search for me, Gao had already found a hotel and booked three rooms. True to his reputation as an unconventional barbarian, he was indeed meticulous.

This was a large house called the Dream Hotel. According to Gao, although it wasn't the most luxurious hotel in the entire Rogue Camp, its service was particularly warm and attentive, making it very popular among job changers.

The first floor of the hotel was a restaurant. As soon as I entered, a chubby middle-aged man greeted us warmly. I looked around the restaurant, and the servers all had natural smiles, clearly well-trained.

I couldn't help but admire the hotel owner's forward-thinking. In this war-torn continent, it was rare to find someone who focused on improving staff quality rather than just relying on luxurious decor. The first five-star hotel in the dark continent didn't seem so far off.

The bar didn't have anything to fill our stomachs, and everyone was already starving, especially Doug, whose stomach had been rumbling like thunder from the start. Even with his thick skin, he couldn't help but blush.

The three of us immediately found a table in the restaurant and ordered a full table of dishes. To be honest, since arriving in the dark continent, this was the first time I had eaten something hot. On the journey, we had mostly eaten Doug's dried meat, which was dry and easy to get tired of.

I took a sip of the meat broth. Hmm, not bad. Although it wasn't as good as in my old world, at least they knew to add some seasoning to remove the meat's gamey taste.

After the three of us devoured the table of food, we patted our bellies and returned to our respective rooms. I had been walking all day, and the events of the day were overwhelming. From returning to the Rogue Camp, meeting the little girl Linia, the blind Akara, the blacksmith Charsi, and the bug amulet, the ups and downs of my emotions left me mentally exhausted. After silently recalling the day's events, I couldn't resist the fatigue and fell into a deep sleep.

I slept until the next afternoon before slowly getting out of bed. To my surprise, as soon as I opened the door, I saw Doug also emerging from his room, looking a bit dazed. We smiled at each other, feeling a sense of camaraderie.

We went down to the restaurant, where Gao was already eating lunch. He was indeed an unconventional barbarian.

"Doug, Gao, I want to go to the wasteland alone for some training," I said, my mouth full of tender, well-cooked meat.

Doug and Gao exchanged glances.

"Wu, are you sure you can handle it alone? Maybe you should find a few more people to go with you for safety," they said, not trying to stop me but suggesting I find a few more newbies to team up with. Going out for training was a must for every job changer; a bird in a cage would eventually lose its ability to fly.

"Forget it, I've checked, and no one has changed jobs in the past few months. Where am I going to find newbies to team up with?" I looked at their worried expressions, clearly not confident in me going alone. Even they had gone with 4 or 5 newbies on their first training trip.

"No problem. I have this wooden stick, and you've taught me many techniques. I have more advantages than those newbies. As long as I'm careful, I should be able to handle it," I said calmly, adding in my mind, plus the bug amulet. If I can level up smoothly and learn a skill, I could even fight you three for a while.

The two barbarian brothers conferred for a moment, and Doug finally said, "Alright, dear Wu, we can't stop you. Good luck."

Gao nodded in agreement, looking at me sincerely.

"Wu, take this. It's a parting gift from me," Doug said as I was about to leave. He pulled out a black tent from his personal item space.

"This was a gift from my teacher. Now, I'm giving it to you. Good luck!" Doug patted my shoulder, with a look that I couldn't refuse.

"Good brother." I patted the shoulders of the two barbarians. In this world where strength was paramount, they were the only ones who treated me so well.

"Good brother." They patted my shoulder, even the usually stern Gao showing emotion.

Without saying more, I turned and walked out of the hotel, feeling their gazes on me. Male friendship doesn't need many words but can make one's blood boil.

First, I needed to go to the square and wear the small amulet. Although the most powerful +7 skill was still unusable, the increased drop rate and experience points alone were enough to make me smile.

Soon, the massive crystal prism came into view. A few people who had seen my embarrassing moment yesterday now looked at me with disdain and hostility.

I didn't care. This was a world where strength spoke. I would prove my abilities to everyone. One day, when I stand at the peak, you will bow at my feet, singing praises and offering your devotion.

It seemed I was still influenced by yesterday's heart demon. My original desire to live a carefree life in the mountains had subtly changed. But it didn't matter as long as it was within my control. A man should have some ambition and a bit of dominance; otherwise, others might think he's easy to bully.

Approaching the crystal, I silently opened the storage box. The small amulet, which I had thrown aside in a panic yesterday, still lay quietly in the corner, like an unopened divine weapon waiting for its master.

I gently picked it up, my hands still trembling. Fortunately, after yesterday's test, I wouldn't be lost in its power again. I carefully examined it and solemnly placed it in my item slot. As soon as I let go, its power was officially unleashed. I felt a lightness in my body, as if a warm, powerful current flowed through my limbs and bones, and a faint white light enveloped me. I looked around, but no one seemed to notice the strange phenomenon, so it must have been my imagination.

Next, I easily found a sword in another corner, a sword made of pure crystal. Unlike the plain small amulet, this crystal sword was a dazzling work of art. Yesterday, I had been too shocked by the amulet to notice its brilliance.

The entire crystal sword was made of pure, translucent crystal, slightly blue and dreamy. Red threads of blood ran along the blade from the tip to the hilt, emitting a bloodthirsty and eerie aura. The hilt, longer than usual, was adorned with yellow diamonds and a blood-red gem, like the eye of a demon, making one shudder before even engaging in battle. The hilt and blade were seamlessly connected, as if they were one, making the sword a masterpiece of slaughter, exuding a mesmerizing and irresistible charm, tempting one to hold it.

Without a doubt, I couldn't resist the temptation. My hands involuntarily gripped the hilt, but ... I used all my strength, and the sword didn't budge.

"Huh?"

I broke out in a cold sweat, realizing that I couldn't even bear the weight of the sword. Otherwise, I might have been controlled by it. This was truly a demon's sword.

I held my breath, trying to stay focused, and looked at the sword again. Although I couldn't lift it, I could still see its attributes. It had been half a month since I last saw it, and after countless thrilling events, I had forgotten its attributes completely.
