Chapter 25

I thought for a moment and felt that I needed to carefully consider where to allocate this skill point.

First, I needed to carefully analyze my current situation. I should choose based on my needs, as this would affect my speed of leveling up to the next level. Hmm, the experience required for the next level, uh... damn, it’s 8000. No wonder Lar took almost three years to reach level 12.

My current situation requires me to prioritize self-preservation. The most suitable skill for this would be the Werewolf Transformation. Ignoring the knowledge from the game, the advantages of transforming into a werewolf are speed, agility, and possibly some boosts to health and attack. An 8th-level Werewolf Transformation would give me a significant advantage in both attacking and escaping. If I learned this skill, my safety would greatly increase.

The second consideration is speed, specifically the speed of killing monsters. Speed means more experience, more experience means faster leveling, and faster leveling means learning more skills. More skills mean even faster speed. This is a common-sense logic that is easy to understand.

For killing speed, Firestorm and Summon Ravens are both good choices. Ravens can attract enemies, increasing my safety. In the game, an 8th-level Summon Ravens can summon five ravens at once. They have a high attack frequency and decent damage, equivalent to the normal attack of an 8th-level white weapon user. However, they have a limited number of attacks, which is a game setting. I don’t know if this exists in the Dark World, but it’s better to be cautious.

Firestorm is even more powerful, with extremely high attack and continuous damage. An 8th-level Firestorm can instantly kill any small monster.

All of these skills are very suitable for me, and I hesitated for a moment, unsure which one to choose.

After some thought, I ultimately chose the last one, the seemingly ordinary Venomous Vine. It doesn’t have the attack power of Firestorm, the number of summons like Ravens, or the safety of Werewolf Transformation, but it is the best choice.

Because it is the most mana-efficient.

Don’t think that in the Dark World, you can cast spells infinitely with mana potions. Ignoring the preciousness of mana potions, their rate of increase is also limited.

At my current level 2, with 22 mana and no bonuses, resting would add about 1 point every 10 minutes, and drinking a minor mana potion would add 10 points in 10 minutes. This slow rate of increase means that spells are severely restricted.

Although the Dark World is very different from the game, I don’t have a mentor to guide me. So, I can only use the knowledge from the game to evaluate the skills and determine the final choice.

Werewolf Transformation is good, but it’s too short, only a few dozen seconds, and it consumes a lot of mana. Eliminated.

Firestorm consumes too much mana. With my current mana, I’m not sure if I can even cast two 8th-level Firestorms. Eliminated.

Summon Ravens is good, but it has limitations and high mana consumption. Eliminated.

Shapeshifting, if anyone told me to learn this first, I’d beat them up.

So, I ultimately chose the Venomous Vine. Its high health means it won’t die easily, greatly reducing my mana consumption. Its attack is also very powerful, with an invincible toxin that most early monsters can’t resist.

So, I chose the Venomous Vine.

Venomous Vine: Skill Level: 8; Health: 137

The skill only has level and health descriptions, so I’ll have to figure out the damage myself. An 8th-level vine should have an attack power higher than a 10th-level Barbarian.

However, just looking at the health, I know I made a good choice. I’m level 2 with 60 health, and this vine has nearly twice that.

I had 5 attribute points, and I added them all to Vitality without hesitation.

In the Dark World, different classes have different ways of allocating points. Barbarians and Paladins have bonuses to Strength and Vitality, Mages have bonuses to Mana, Amazons have bonuses to Dexterity and Strength, Assassins have a significant bonus to Dexterity, and Druids are more balanced, with no clear advantages or disadvantages.

For example, for Druids, adding 1 point to Vitality equals 3 points of health, while Barbarians, Paladins, and Amazons get about 2-3 points, and Mages and Assassins get only 1 point.

Similarly, for Mana, adding 1 point increases it by 2-3 points for Paladins, Druids, and Assassins, 4 points for Mages, and only 1 point for Barbarians.

This is the attribute bonus system in the Dark World, so you can never expect to play a unique character, like a mana-heavy Barbarian or a tanky Mage to show off your uniqueness.

Although some of the Druid’s skills are weak, the attribute bonuses are much better than other classes. They are balanced, not the best in any area but not the worst either. Overall, they are the strongest.

I suppressed my excitement and slowly began to summon the Venomous Vine.

When I was chatting with Lar, I knew that casting skills is not like in the game, where you cast and it’s immediately released. It requires a certain casting time, and different skills have different cooldowns after casting.

So, when I found that the energy was slowly gathering and brewing while casting the Venomous Vine, I wasn’t surprised. This is the time required for the skill to be released.

After about 10 seconds, I felt the gathered energy suddenly solidify, then burst open like a chick hatching from an egg, instantly drilling into the ground and disappearing.

Hmm, I opened my eyes wide and stared at the ground.

The ground suddenly bulged slightly, and then a slimy, worm-like body emerged, covered in mucus.

Ugh...

I almost vomited. This wasn’t a vine at all, but a magnified worm or an elongated leech. It was already disgusting in the game, and in reality, it was even more horrifying.

I regretted choosing this skill a bit. Sigh, well, it can save my life. It’s disgusting, but so be it. Besides, I instantly understood how to cancel the summon, so I can get rid of it when I don’t need it, especially when flirting with girls. If it suddenly appeared at a crucial moment...

It would be a love killer.

I forced myself to suppress my nausea and began looking for a suitable test subject. The vine followed me slowly, making a gurgling sound as it emerged from the ground, which made me even more nauseous.

Although the Venomous Vine was drilling underground, it was clearly a master at it. Even if I ran, I couldn’t shake it off. It followed me at a leisurely pace, as if mocking my futile efforts. This was infuriating, but I was more excited. Speed is good, and even a fool knows what that means.

After wandering around for about half an hour, I finally found a Fallen Camp with 5 Fallen and a Fallen Mage, dancing in a way that was full of “exotic charm.” The Fallen Mage, in particular, was jumping around, no less impressive than the Elite Fallen Mage I encountered with Lar.

“Attack.”

I hid nearby, ready to test the Venomous Vine’s power.

“Attack.”

I repeated the command to the Venomous Vine.

Was it a language barrier? Who knows what language the Venomous Vine uses.

I realized I couldn’t control the vine at all and was stunned...

Oh God, send me a mentor. I’ll trade my ultra-legendary weapon for it.

With this realization, I retreated dejectedly, no longer daring to attack the Fallen Camp.

I didn’t give up and found a Corpse Nest, rushing over.

Sure enough, the Venomous Vine followed me. When I was about 10 meters from the nearest corpse, the vine attacked.

It suddenly emerged from the ground, its bowl-sized head opening like a flower, revealing a row of sharp teeth. It reminded me of the scene in "King Kong 2" where the mercenaries fell into the canyon, and the man-eating leeches in the shallow mud opened their mouths in the same way.

The slow-moving corpse didn’t react in time and was bitten by the Venomous Vine. Its body immediately turned a greasy green, and its health plummeted. By the time it reacted, the vine had already retreated underground.

Impressive, I snapped my fingers. Although I expected the 8th-level Venomous Vine to be powerful, seeing it in action still made me excited.

When the corpse was down to a sliver of health, the Venomous Vine emerged again, bit it, and the corpse immediately fell, unable to withstand the intense viral attack. It began to rot instantly, even the bones started to dissolve.

Ugh, seeing this, I couldn’t help but vomit up the jerky I had eaten in the morning. This scene was more disgusting than terrifying.

However, seeing the Venomous Vine take down a corpse in less than 4 seconds, I was overjoyed—skills are indeed the sharpest weapons of a class character.

Soon, the Venomous Vine took down the other three corpses, losing only 8 health points when it was accidentally hit by another corpse during an attack. I almost shouted in triumph, but unfortunately, these four corpses didn’t drop anything. Cheapskates, even in death, they clung to their equipment and gold...
