Chapter 44: Belt + Potion = Token of Affection? (Part 1)

"Ah... right."

As if I had just remembered something, I swiftly took out a slightly red bottle from my inventory.

"Wu, what are you doing?" Lar asked, puzzled.

I smiled but didn't explain, instead, I continued to pull out red potions.

Two bottles, three bottles, four bottles...

As the number of red potions on the table increased, Lar's and the others' expressions gradually shifted from confusion to surprise, then to a daze. Their mouths were wide open, looking at me as if I were a monster.

"Wu, can you make potions?"

Looking at the table full of red potions, at least a hundred bottles, Lar finally managed to say something.

I shook my head.

"Did you find a tree that grows red potions?"

Lar imagined a towering tree with countless red potion bottles hanging from it.

"Why don't you find it and show me?" I nearly fainted. I had never realized how rich Lar's imagination was.

"Alright, stop guessing. I got these potions from monsters."

"So many?"

Lar was surprised. "How many monsters did you kill to get one bottle?"

"You don't need to worry about that. Take them. It will be safer to fight the Countess this way."

"What about you?" Doug, who hadn't caught up yet, asked a rather silly question.

"Do you think I'm the kind of person who sacrifices myself for others?"

"Indeed not."

Without hesitation, Doug answered. Although it was the expected answer, I was still quite annoyed by how he said it.

Next, I took out over fifty slightly blue potions. They had already had one "experience," so they didn't react as foolishly as before, but their gazes were still quite strange.

This training session had almost brought me to level 5. These slightly red and slightly blue potions were piled up like small mountains in my inventory, at least a few hundred bottles. If not for the scene just now, which deepened our friendship, I would have only taken out a dozen or so bottles, which was the maximum amount to hide my abnormality.

But now, I didn't hesitate to take out half of them. Although I still couldn't tell them about the bug that protected me, I believed they would never harm me.

"These, you can divide and take them." I pointed to the bottles on the table.

The three of them stared at the pile of bottles on the table for a long time.

"Thank you."

All the words they wanted to say were condensed into these two words. They patted my shoulder, not being polite. This wasn't a game; no one would joke with their life. The more safety, the better. In their eyes, I was one of them, so there was no need to be polite.

In the end, since Lar was in the front, he took fifty slightly red potions and thirty deep blue ones (Doug and the others were in supporting attack positions, so they consumed less, hence Lar got more). The rest were evenly divided between Doug and Gouf.

The three of them exchanged glances and found more confidence in each other's eyes. With these potions, their success rate increased significantly. Normally, their inventories only had about a dozen bottles of potions reserved, and their "pockets" had never been as "full" as they were now.

Seeing their excitement, like country bumpkins entering the city, I was speechless. Just a few bottles of potions, was it worth this much? Would the next item shock their hearts even more?

I coughed to bring them back from their state of surprise, then took out the belt from my inventory.

Seeing the belt glowing with a blue light, they were already speechless. When they saw its attributes, they were even more speechless.

Crimson Strong Belt: 3 Defense; Durability 12/12; +27% Defense Enhancement; Fire Resistance +14%

"Wu, you killed an elite-level monster." Lar swallowed, speaking in a disbelieving tone. This belt was almost tailor-made for fighting the Countess.

After all, even they couldn't solo the elites in the wasteland. If it were a one-on-one fight, it would be fine, but the problem was that elite-level monsters always had minions around.

Heh, it wasn't an elite, but a mini-boss. I could only think this to myself.

"Lar, put it on. If you still say you can't beat the Countess and act like you're about to die, I won't recognize you as a brother."

"It's too precious, I can't accept it."

Lar muttered. The potions were fine; although they weren't many, they could buy some from Akara, and if they weren't enough, they could spend some time in the Blood Wasteland to gather enough. While they couldn't match my hundreds of bottles, it would be enough to fight the Countess. But this belt wasn't something that could be easily obtained. Killing dozens of bosses might not even yield one, and its attributes were so timely.

"Damn, are you growing grass in your head, or did the Sanctuary knock you silly? I already have a belt, and this one's attributes aren't useful to me right now. Are you an idiot?"

I paused, knowing that this wasn't very convincing. What did "not useful right now" mean? The fireballs from the Fallen Mages in the wasteland weren't vegetarian.

"Besides, this belt isn't for you. It's a gift for Sara, understand? I just don't want her to lose the father she likes. Don't be too presumptuous."

Afraid that Lar's stubbornness would make him refuse, I continued.

"Yes, I'm not just living for myself now, but also for Sara and Sali."

Lar, awakened by my words, silently put away the belt. With this belt, the ring from the last drop, and other fire-resistant equipment on his body, plus the defensive aura "Fire Resistance," his fire resistance was already over 70%. He could almost ignore the Countess's fire sea. If he still couldn't win, he would truly be unworthy of the noble title of a class changer.

"Lar, get some of Sali's homemade wine to celebrate." Doug was so happy that he forgot himself, grinning at Lar.

"You two always come to my place with ulterior motives."

After the extreme emotions, Lar's eyes had fewer shadows. At first glance, he seemed the same as before, but if you looked closely, you could see that his eyes used to have a hint of strain.
