Chapter 50: Opening the Chest

The three surviving Fallen Ones stood there in a daze, and after a while, they panicked and scattered in all directions. Sigh, in the game, Fallen Ones are indeed very timid; a slight scare and they scatter. But this was the first time I saw them run away here, and I couldn't help but be taken aback.
Although the Fallen Ones have low intelligence, the lower the intelligence of a monster, the stronger its instincts. Even after I transformed into a werewolf, they wouldn't fear me, but facing a magic that could instantly kill a large group of their kind, they were terrified and retreated.
After a moment of daze, the three Fallen Ones had already fled far away. I shook my head and didn't chase after them. Not only were they far away, but even if I transformed into a werewolf now, I might not catch up.
Regaining my composure, I looked over at the Venom Vine, which had just finished off the two Fallen Mages. Ha ha, this was the first time I had outperformed the Venom Vine in both quantity and speed. Before I learned Firestorm, it always overshadowed me.
With Firestorm, my "training" speed has clearly increased. Normally, I would be cautious around Fallen One camps, but now, I can start with a Firestorm to take out most of them, then transform into a werewolf, and the rest are easy pickings. Along the way, I've wiped out everything except for those camps with over a hundred Fallen Ones. I even didn't forget to smash the large pots in the camps, which might be filled with the blood of the Dark Continent's people.
The only noteworthy thing was a small house I encountered yesterday, probably built by some adventurer. The stone walls were weathered and mossy, very old. This small house was occupied by a large group of over a hundred Fallen Ones, including an Elite Fallen Mage.
Under normal circumstances, I would never provoke them, but the temptation of an Elite monster, combined with the cover of the small house, led me to transform into a werewolf and use my speed to lure the Fallen Ones, including the Elite Fallen Mage inside the house, out. Then, I circled back and entered the now empty house, guarding the door, waiting for the Fallen Ones to come and die. With the door as cover, I used the narrow terrain to wear down the enemies one by one, just like in the Evil Cavern. Moreover, I had learned Firestorm, so standing at the door and casting it, one-fifth of the Fallen Ones turned to ashes, leaving no chance for the mages to resurrect them.
What if the Fallen Ones broke through the walls? The chance of that happening is very low. With their low intelligence, it's hard for them to destroy their own nest. Even if they did, I could just run away. They can break walls, but can't I?
The only threat, the Elite Fallen Mage, was naturally entangled by my Venom Vine. The other ordinary Fallen Mages' fireballs barely hurt me.
Not long after, when I canceled the transformation and immediately cast Firestorm, the last few Fallen Ones turned to ashes. In fact, when I first used Firestorm, nearly one-tenth of the Fallen Ones had already fled.
Not far away, the battle between the Venom Vine and the Elite Fallen Mage was almost over. As long as the special attribute wasn't resistance to poison, the Elite Fallen Mage was no match for the Venom Vine.
"Ah..."
With the Elite Fallen Mage's scream, the unfair battle finally ended. I had already cleaned up my side of the battlefield. Fallen Ones are generally poor, so killing dozens of them only dropped a few gold coins and a few potions.
When I reached the feet of the Elite Fallen Mage, I was moved to tears. There, lying on the ground, was a piece of leather armor.
Finally, I could say goodbye to the naked era. I was so excited I could hardly speak. If it weren't for the Venom Vine being so mean, I would have kissed it.
Super-strong leather armor: 17 defense; durability 25-25; requires 15 strength points. +20% defense enhancement.
Sigh, it's a pity it's just a white item. I sighed, feeling greedy, but then I became happy again. It's still a piece of clothing, and the defense it adds is exactly the same as the total defense of all my equipment. (Originally, 8 points of defense were added due to leveling up.)
Although I wanted to say that this piece of leather armor was enough, the Elite Mage was quite generous and dropped a small health potion. It's a small one, restoring 20 health points in 10 minutes, not the lowest-level micro potion.
Finally, there were a few gold coins, as usual.
In addition, I found a small, square iron chest inside the house, gray-brown, about knee-high, and not locked. I held my breath and walked up to it.
These monsters, even within the same race, different groups often fight each other to enhance their strength. Many monsters, despite their low intelligence, have a hobby of collecting treasures. In a group, most don't have treasure chests, but if they do, the richness of the "treasures" in the chest often represents the group's strength.
Most gamers understand the excitement of opening a chest. The unknown allure, the rich rewards, and the satisfaction of unexpected gains make countless people yearn for it. (Actually, in the Diablo game, chests are too common, and many are junk, gradually losing this excitement.)
Gently opening this slightly old chest, I found several gold coins, 5 small red potions, 1 small blue potion, and most importantly, a short sword emitting a pale blue light, lying quietly inside.
OMG, my luck has finally burst. Since the drop rate between monsters is very low, the group I just killed must have likely eliminated other groups with Elite monsters, possibly more than one, to drop this short sword. It's possible they had just wiped out another large group not long ago, and their strength hadn't fully recovered, so I got a cheap deal.
I gently picked up the blue short sword, caressing the cold, clear blade, and eagerly used an identification scroll.
Craftsman's Short Sword: One-handed damage: 2-8; durability 24-24; sword level: fast attack speed.
Additional attribute: +1 maximum damage.
"Uh..."
Seeing the identified short sword, my first reaction was that I ultimately don't have the talent to be a protagonist in a fantasy story...
Two days later, I finally reached level 6. I kept the five attribute points for this level and used the skill point to learn the last skill in the first stage—Summon Crow.
