Chapter 53: The Cold Plains Teleportation Station

On the ninth day, I finally wandered to the edge of the Mist Forest. It was like a broad, green river, stretching endlessly, separating the Rogue Encampment from Lut Gholein. Inside the clearing were two small tents and a large bonfire. In the inner part of the clearing, a faint magical glow indicated the simple teleportation portal, which, of course, couldn't compare to the massive portal in the Rogue Encampment.
There were three people in the clearing: two Rogues and a person in a black cloak, who looked like a mage. The hood was up, giving the appearance of a black-robed old demon. Rogues, with their natural talent for archery, were particularly alert. Even in the dim light, they noticed my arrival.
"Who's there?"
I was taken aback. Their bows were already raised but quickly lowered.
"Are you Lord Wu Fan?" the male Rogue leading them asked.
I nodded quickly. After wandering the Cold Plains for over ten days, I had finally found my people.
"Welcome, Lord Wu Fan. Lady Akara has already informed us, but we were worried because you were taking so long..."
The first rule of the teleportation portal: When being chased by monsters, even if you die, do not enter the teleportation portal for safety. Such an act of exposing the portal will result in a continent-wide manhunt.
"Ha ha, sorry, I got held up a bit."
I gave an awkward smile. Should I admit I got lost?
I sat down by the fire with the two of them and chatted for a while. I learned that the two Rogues were named Kya and Tiro, soldiers from the Rogue Encampment. The black-robed figure was a mage named Shatuf from the Mage Guild.
Mages, like mercenaries, receive training but do not become advanced classes. They can choose to become mercenaries or join the Mage Guild, with most opting for the latter due to its safety.
A specialized mage is required to activate the teleportation portal, which is why Shatuf was here. Kya and Tiro, the two Rogue soldiers, were the guards. Mages were rotated daily, while the guards changed weekly. The system was quite reasonable.
Shatuf quickly registered my name, and from then on, I could use the Cold Plains teleportation point.
"Lord Wu Fan, are you returning to the Rogue Encampment now?"
Shatuf was a rather quiet person, never saying more than necessary.
I thought for a moment and shook my head. Although returning to the Rogue Encampment for a few days before teleporting back seemed like a good idea, I wasn't here for a vacation. Shatuf nodded and said nothing more, but his eyes, hidden under the hood, showed more respect and admiration.
The next morning, as the fog began to clear, I was about to leave when Kya and Tiro unexpectedly brought out a pile of food and daily necessities to sell to me. Their enthusiasm rivaled that of some salespeople in our world, but they didn't dare raise prices too high, only slightly more expensive than in the Rogue Encampment. Seeing that my inventory was already half empty, I decided to buy everything I needed, much to their delight. I learned that each teleportation station also served as a transit point and rest stop. The Rogues here were both guards and merchants.
Sweat, I thought the job of guarding the teleportation portal was a tough one, but it turned out to be a lucrative position.
"Lord Wu Fan, if you go straight, you'll reach the Stony Field. This way leads back to the Blood Moor. Don't go that way; it's the heart of the Mist Forest. Once you enter, without experience, you won't be able to get out," Kya, a lively young man, pointed out the directions with enthusiasm. It seemed they had noticed my tendency to get lost. Sigh!
"Which way is the Burial Grounds?" I suddenly asked.
"What? Lord, you want to go to the Burial Grounds?" Kya's tone changed abruptly, and even Tiro and Shatuf's faces turned pale.
"Please don't. Blood Raven is incredibly powerful. Of course, Lord Wu Fan, you are also very strong, but it's best to find a few ranged archers, like Amazons. They will be your most reliable companions," Kya said hurriedly, fearing I might go there and die.
