Chapter 27

It was time for the night meeting.

As usual, Ellis also arrived at the conference room where all the leaders had gathered.

Since I had already informed everyone beforehand, they merely glanced at her.

The evaluation of Ellis by everyone was not particularly bad.

It would be a lie to say that I didn't feel a bit let down, as if I was the only one being overly sensitive.

Rather, if I alone continued to doubt, the other sub-humans might start to distrust me.

"Since everyone has gathered, I want to talk about the sub-humans in the north," I said as Ellis took her seat.

First, I would convey what I knew and thought about today.

That there were humans in the north.

That the name of the enemy leader was probably Ravehalt, and that he was the one I had struggled against.

Also, the phrase "we can do it up there."

After conveying these points, Ellis was the first to react.

"There were humans among the sub-humans?"

Ellis also seemed surprised.

I nodded in response to her question.

"Yes, that's right. And they seemed quite close."

Even though they wore slave collars, they didn't seem to be treated as badly as the sub-humans with the ogre.

It felt more like they were just wearing them to avoid rebellion.

"In that case, I think they are likely criminals, as Crest suggested. The idea that they conspired and sought revenge on the upper world is quite plausible," Ellis said.

Indeed, that's what I thought.

I invited Ellis here to hear her judgment from a human perspective.

At that moment, Libia raised her hand.

"While I agree that the criminals might think that way... isn't it also possible that not all sub-humans are driven by a desire for revenge?"

In response to Libia's question, Sphy interjected.

"Is that so? I have a lot of resentment. If I hadn't met Crest, I might have joined them. Oh, but now, as Crest's wife, I wouldn't do that?"

"You're not his wife," Libia pointed out with a smile.

However, Sphy seemed completely oblivious.

While there were parts of Sphy's statement that I found questionable, her opinion was also valid.

I remember Sphy saying she came from the upper world to the lower world.

Such sub-humans must have some resentment towards the upper world.

They might also have resentment towards humans, but it's possible they compromised and conspired as a force.

"Regardless of what Lady Sphy thinks. In my case, I've lived in the lower world since I was born, so it's hard for me to imagine. What about the others?" Libia asked.

Orpheus shook his head in response.

Then, Vanya raised her hand slightly.

"I... it's not quite resentment, but I heard a lot from Mama. She said the humans in the upper world were cruel. So, it's possible that resentment is passed down from parents to children," Vanya said.

Everyone seemed to agree with Vanya's words, watching silently.

Libia also nodded slightly.

"I see... I understand. So, the possibility that sub-humans and humans are conspiring is quite plausible."

"That's right. It's a bit difficult to deny outright," Vanya added.

There are those like Libia who don't know the upper world, those like Sphy who were dropped from the upper world to the lower world, and those like Vanya who heard stories from their parents and harbor distrust.

Thinking about it, I might have been lucky to be accepted here.

Once everyone fell silent, I interjected.

"If the sub-humans in the north interfere with us... I intend to say that I have no intention of doing anything."

"You have no intention of doing anything...?"

"Yes. If I'm invited to attack the upper world, I will decline. However, I have no intention of hindering them. I don't plan to take sides with either side."

I intend to remain neutral.

I do have my thoughts about the upper world, but I don't have strong animosity.

I also have no intention of opposing Ravehalt and the others to protect the upper world.

To me, the companions I have now are what matter.

That's my current thinking.

With everyone's attention on me, I continued.

"And if this prediction is correct and the sub-humans in the north invite us, I think it's fine for each of you to decide whether to participate or not based on your own judgment."

As I said this, everyone's attention became even more focused.
