"Margaret, can't you be a bit nicer to Cynthia?"
When Prince Keith said this to me in the school, my mind went blank.
"Be nicer to Cynthia...?"
"At the very least, stop taking her things and ignoring her greetings."
I felt dizzy as I looked at Prince Keith's serious face. He was being completely serious.
"Cynthia is really hurt."
She has been mocked every day, and everything except the brooch, a memento from her mother that the fairies protect, has been taken from her. Prince Keith was seriously telling me to be nicer to Cynthia.
'Prince is the worst.'
'Margaret doesn't understand anything.'
'I want to blow up the palace.'
While listening to the fairies' words, I remembered what Lord Lewis said to me in the library the other day.
"His Highness is a very serious and kind person.
...So, he listens to any words.
It's up to His Highness to judge those words, but I think he needs to know more about Lady Margaret to make a judgment.
...I think if His Highness talks more with Lady Margaret, his judgment might change."
This must have been what he meant. Prince Keith believed Cynthia's words, but he couldn't say it outright, so he used such ambiguous words.
"Prince Keith... Could I have a word with you?"
I mustered the courage to say it.
"I'm sorry, but I'm joining the student council next year, and I have a meeting now.
Next time I visit the Duke's house, I hope you'll come out of your room."
Prince Keith looked apologetic, but he left with the future aides without even looking back at me. Only Lord Lewis looked back at me a few times, worried.
Ah, when Prince Keith saw me surrounded by Kanam and the others, he must have thought that it was only natural for me, who usually bullies Cynthia, to get a taste of my own medicine. Even if he didn't say it outright, he must have thought I didn't need to be saved.
Still, it's quite something for him to say, "When I visit the Duke's house, I hope you'll come out of your room." The last time Prince Keith came, he did call out to me, but he was talking to Cynthia and had no intention of talking to me alone.
'He doesn't understand anything. That damn prince.'
When I thought this, the fairies were overjoyed.
'Margaret, you finally got it!'
'How are you going to deal with the prince?'
'First, let's strip him naked in public.'
'And then, let's give him a non-lethal poison.'
'Let him suffer to the brink of death while naked.'
'Let's make him beg to be killed.'
Not just Mint, but Cookie and Choco were also getting restless!
'Sorry, it was a lie! Let's pretend it never happened!
Prince Keith doesn't matter to me, he has nothing to do with my life, he's not worth any of you taking action!'
While hurriedly calming the fairies, the powerful words "Prince Keith doesn't matter" somehow settled in my heart. From the day I lied with a smile, I probably didn't care about Prince Keith anymore. And today, knowing that he believed Cynthia without even listening to me, he truly became someone I didn't care about. It seemed that my feelings of not caring about Prince Keith were conveyed, and the fairies also lost interest in him.
At least, the desperate future of this country, where the palace is blown up and the future king is stripped naked and given a non-lethal poison in public, was avoided, and I let out a sigh of relief.
