The driver didn’t have time to think much; he pressed his left foot on the clutch and pushed the short control lever forward with his right hand.
“Pfft.” With a sound of compressed air, a slight tremor came from the gearbox in front.
This KamAZ truck was the main transport vehicle of the 40th Group Army. This truck had six sturdy tires, and normally, it only relied on the rear tires for driving, which was more fuel-efficient.
However, if it was in the mountains or on difficult roads, by operating the control lever and engaging the transfer case, it would become a four-wheel drive, providing good off-road capability.
Now, the roads ahead and behind were both blocked. To escape quickly, they could only drive off the road and escape through the land below.
Fortunately, this was not the valley where the tanks were ambushed last time, which could only accommodate one tank. Although the sides were steep, the truck could still pass through easily.
After engaging the front drive, the KamAZ became a powerful off-road vehicle. The driver stepped hard on the gas and released the clutch under his foot.
“Vroom, vroom.” The engine roared in front, and the thick tires turned. The KamAZ almost tumbled down the road and then rushed forward.
Bumpy, bumpy, continuously bumpy. Even so, Captain Viktor kept urging, faster, faster!
They were moving forward. At this moment, there wasn’t enough space to turn around, and it would waste time. Although Viktor didn’t give an order, the driver knew that their only chance of survival was to leave quickly and run to the outpost.
The guerrillas wouldn’t dare to attack the outpost.
At this moment, there were fires everywhere behind, and the scene ahead was惨不忍睹. Looking at the overturned BMP infantry fighting vehicle, Viktor knew that only a few of them had survived this time.
Jumping off the truck to fight these guerrillas? That was the job of the combat units. They were just a transport unit, so they had to run as fast as possible!
“Creak, creak.” As the wheels bounced up and down, the chassis was subjected to a huge impact. The robust and durable characteristics of Soviet trucks were fully demonstrated. Even the best Mercedes-Benz off-road vehicles in the West would probably break down in such a situation.
The KamAZ was holding on, rushing forward. Behind, several guerrillas had already followed like hungry wolves.
On one side of the hill, a sniper adjusted his breathing, steadily holding the SVD sniper rifle, following the movement of the car, and then pulled the trigger.
The clear sound of the firing pin striking the primer entered his ears, followed by a “bang,” and a bullet flew out of the barrel.
Rapidly cutting through the air, the bullet plunged into the tire of the KamAZ truck.
Khwaja knew Muhammad's tactics, so he deliberately left this truck, but he had to make the truck stop. Therefore, he could only choose to shoot the tires.
Ordinary truck tires, once hit by a bullet, would immediately lose air, and the vehicle would lose control and definitely stop. At that time, it would be their turn to capture the truck.
However, after waiting for two seconds, the bullet should have already flown over, but Khwaja saw that the truck was still racing forward.
Khwaja didn’t know that the tires of this off-road truck could continue to drive for a while even if they were hit.
The KamAZ continued to race forward, having already passed the unfortunate infantry fighting vehicle. After a short distance, it could escape the ambush.
Just then, a person suddenly darted out in front.
He had a towel wrapped around his head, wore a long robe, and had a bandolier of bullets across his chest, a typical Afghan guerrilla.
He didn’t expect there to be guerrillas here!
Muhammad saw the explosion on the scene and thought he had eliminated the entire convoy. Now, seeing that one truck had escaped, he immediately gave chase.
Muhammad took a shortcut, and the place where he was hiding was very close. Although the large truck had six wheels and was driving off-road at full speed, it was still not as fast as Muhammad.
Muhammad ran over and, as if courting death, stood in front of the car. He knew that the truck drivers were only focused on escaping and probably hadn’t even taken out their guns.
This was a transport truck, not an infantry fighting vehicle, so there were no firing ports on the truck. The truck’s windows were not even open, so the people inside wouldn’t pose a threat to him. As for the cargo area, no one could stand there.
Muhammad didn’t hesitate at all, pulled the safety of his AKM, which was already set to full-auto, and then pulled the trigger. A stream of fire swept over.
“Bang, bang.” Indeed, the bullets hit the truck’s glass but couldn’t penetrate it, only creating countless cracks.
This truck had a double-cab, different from other trucks, and it had an antenna on top. Muhammad knew it was special. Now, by shooting at it with bullets, he confirmed his judgment: the truck’s glass was bulletproof!
If he used a 12.7mm caliber weapon or armor-piercing rounds, he could penetrate the glass and kill the people inside. But now, the 7.62mm caliber assault rifle in Muhammad’s hands couldn’t penetrate it.
Muhammad didn’t intend to penetrate it, so he didn’t aim, as if he didn’t care about wasting bullets. He was just shooting at the glass.
Bulletproof glass, although the bullets couldn’t penetrate, would still shatter when hit.
When all the bullets in the magazine were fired, the entire bulletproof glass was completely obscured with a dense network of cracks.
That was the effect he wanted! Muhammad moved to the side and saw the truck swaying. Then, a window on one side opened, and a head appeared.
“Bang.” As soon as the head appeared, it was already blown apart, blood splattering the entire window.
Because the front glass was blurred, the people inside couldn’t see the road clearly and had to stick their heads out to look. As soon as they did, their heads were blown apart. Although Muhammad couldn’t see far, he knew it must have been Khwaja.
The driver was hit. As soon as the driver died, the roaring iron beast immediately stopped.
“Get out, all of you!” Muhammad said, pointing his gun at the people inside.
Actually, at that moment, Muhammad hadn’t finished changing the magazine. His gun was already empty and couldn’t fire.
However, the few Soviets inside were already scared stiff. Although they were soldiers, they were from the transport unit and didn’t easily participate in frontline combat. Especially after the driver’s head was blown apart, and blood splattered on them, they felt even more fear.
Muhammad pointed his gun at them and shouted in fluent Russian. The sound echoed in their ears, and their minds went blank.
Sweat beads the size of peas appeared on Viktor’s forehead. He clearly remembered that a few days ago, several armored soldiers were captured and turned into booby traps by these guerrillas. Two elite reconnaissance squads of their own were killed by these booby traps.
Today, their side was almost completely destroyed by two landmines, and only one truck remained. Moreover, the timing was chosen very well.
It was likely that this group of guerrillas was the same as the one from a few days ago. If they were captured, they would probably also be turned into booby traps.
The scene of being blown to pieces gave Viktor the courage to escape. Death was certain either way.
With this thought, Viktor suddenly opened the door and jumped down, pulling out his AKS74U assault rifle from behind as he jumped, ready to shoot at Muhammad.
Muhammad was standing in front of the truck, and Viktor jumped out from the right side door, using the truck as cover. The sniper on the left was in a blind spot.
Kill this guy first! Viktor mustered his courage. The rear door also opened, and two Soviet soldiers, seeing their captain jump down, followed.
“Rat-tat-tat, rat-tat-tat.” Two short bursts of assault rifle fire, and then Viktor felt a pain in his back. Without turning around, he knew that the guerrillas behind had caught up.
His attention was focused on the guy in front, but this guy was just a distraction. Damn guerrillas!
Viktor tried to turn around to see who had shot him but felt weak all over and slowly fell down.
Muhammad sighed in relief. When he saw the three guys jump down, his instinctive reaction was to dodge to the side, which would have ruined his tough image.
Fortunately, the guerrillas behind were effective and took out the three Soviets without hurting him.
“Trainer, you’re so awesome!” At this moment, someone ran over, the one who had fired the shots.
The voice was familiar, and Muhammad looked up to see Durani.
Just now, Muhammad had jumped in front of the truck and fired a burst, stopping the truck. The guerrillas chasing behind had all seen it. Instantly, admiration for Muhammad arose.
The two bombs made from tank shells were incredibly powerful, not only destroying the truck but also flipping the infantry fighting vehicle and killing the people inside. The guerrillas were already impressed. Now, seeing Muhammad’s fearless actions, they respected him even more.
In this world, only the strong can survive!
“Don’t talk nonsense, get in the truck, and be careful to stay hidden,” Muhammad said.
