Chapter 15

"Spotted a truck." Below the massive five-blade propeller, the Mi-24 Hind opened its fangs, and the weapons operator, seated in the front, saw the vehicle below.

Hearing his words, the pilot in the back immediately pushed the control stick forward, and the Hind's nose dipped as it flew forward. The rocket pods on both sides were fully loaded.

Their armed helicopter had been urgently dispatched after receiving news of an ambush on a convoy. At the same time, soldiers from nearby outposts had gathered and were heading this way.

At the foot of a hill, they found the ambushed convoy. The fire was still burning, and the large craters on the ground indicated that the convoy had been hit by bombs.

While patrolling the area, they discovered a truck speeding down a distant road.

They immediately gave chase.

The engine above their heads vibrated continuously, emitting a deafening roar. Even in the cockpit, the sound could be felt. The weapons operator in the front swallowed hard. He could now see clearly that it was a KamAZ double-cab truck, one of the convoy's trucks!

There must be something wrong! Was the truck separated from the convoy and lost, or was there another situation? The pilot in the back also saw it and immediately said, "We'll fly over and make this car stop."

After all, they couldn't just open fire on the car directly. If it were their own people inside, they would be injured. But if it were guerrillas, they couldn't let them go, especially if they were the guerrillas who had ambushed their convoy. At that time, just a few rockets would be enough to take out these despicable enemies.

First, they had to make the car stop. If it didn't stop, it must be the guerrillas!

Stopping a car from the air was too easy for a helicopter.

Unfortunately, the helicopter wasn't equipped with a high-power loudspeaker, or they could have shouted at the car directly.

The distance was getting closer. The car on the ground not only didn't slow down but sped up even more.

There was definitely something wrong with this car!

The pilot pressed his finger on the button on the control stick, then pulled up the nose and pressed the button.

As he pressed it, the 12.7mm "Katyusha" machine gun under the Hind's chin began to roar, spitting out a stream of fire.

"Rat-tat-tat." The machine gun fire hit the ground about twenty meters in front of the car, and a large tree suffered the most, swaying and about to fall.

The Hind had many weapons. The rocket pods on both sides were operated by the weapons operator, while the machine gun under the nose was operated by the pilot.

Although the 12.7mm machine gun wasn't as powerful as a cannon, it was enough to serve as a warning.

"The tree in front is going to fall," said Khvaja anxiously in the driver's cabin.

The helicopter behind was their biggest threat, but at this moment, they had no choice but to sit in the car and wait.

The pilot of the helicopter was cunning, actually breaking the tree in front of them.

Muhammad's eyes were fixed on the tree. He had no other choice. If they stopped, none of them would escape. Even if the Hind only used the machine gun, it could take them all out.

Step on the gas, charge through! Muhammad's foot was already on the floor, and the engine behind him roared. The entire car seemed to tremble like a violated girl.

The car's nose passed, then the body, and the tree swept the truck's tail, denting the rear cargo compartment. Then, with a loud thud, it fell to the ground.

Seeing this in the rearview mirror, Muhammad felt relieved.

If it had been a second later, the truck would have been hit in the middle, and the brothers in the back would have been turned into meat paste, and he wouldn't have escaped either.

Charge, keep charging, there was no other choice.

In the back of the truck, Durani, jolted by the bumps, took out the captured machine gun, set it up at the rear, and opened fire into the sky.

"Die, Soviets!" Durani shouted loudly, showing great bravery.

Would it work? This wasn't an anti-aircraft machine gun. Although the caliber was sufficient, hitting the Hind would require a lot of luck, and Durani's luck was always poor.

Muhammad heard the gunfire and Durani's shouts behind him, feeling a bit uneasy.

However, when Durani opened fire, the helicopter suddenly pulled up and disappeared from the rearview mirror.

Did it leave? Muhammad wasn't that naive. He knew it wasn't leaving but was just pulling up to avoid the sudden machine gun fire. When the Hind made a beautiful turn and came back down, it would probably launch rockets from the side, turning the ground into a sea of fire. This KamAZ wouldn't survive.

What to do? Stopping meant death, and continuing meant death too.

Muhammad was thinking when his eyes caught a gap in the dense forest by the roadside, which could accommodate the KamAZ.

"Hold on!" Muhammad shouted, taking his right foot off the gas and slamming it on the brake pedal.

"Screech!" With a sound of compressed air, the braking force was transmitted to the six large tires. The entire truck, like a wild horse reined in by a strongman, suddenly decelerated.

Although Muhammad had shouted, the people in the truck were caught off guard. They hadn't been trained for this, and cries of pain came from the back.

The sudden shouts, though in different languages, had almost the same tone and pronunciation.

Muhammad didn't have time to care. While braking, his right hand quickly shifted the gear lever out of gear and into a lower gear without pressing the clutch, smoothly. Then, he turned the steering wheel, and the heavy KamAZ began a sharp turn.

The outer wheels almost flew off due to the centrifugal force. Muhammad's eyes were fixed on the road ahead. As the wheels left the road, the large KamAZ drove into the forest.

Even a tank would find it difficult to enter such terrain, getting stuck and unable to move. Muhammad's body jolted with the truck, and his hands turned the steering wheel left and right, guiding the KamAZ like a snake deeper into the forest.

The truck was large, and in the forest without a road, it could be blocked by trees at any moment.

The sound of branches breaking was constant. Although the KamAZ wasn't tall, the low branches were caught and hit the truck, making a loud noise. Many branches were broken and crushed under the wide tires.

"Screech!" Muhammad finally stepped on the brake. The forest ahead was completely blocked, and there was no road.

Muhammad was relieved that the huge truck had driven 100 meters into the forest before getting stuck.

Although the leaves above weren't very dense, the truck's camouflage color made it hard to spot from the air.

However, Muhammad didn't hesitate. He knew the Hind would return. If it couldn't find the truck, it would guess it was hiding in the forest. When the Hind returned, it would unload all its rockets, turning the entire forest into rubble.

"Quick, everyone get out and take your weapons! Those with machine guns, take them. Those without, use automatic rifles." Muhammad said, opening the door and jumping out of the driver's cabin.

Khvaja, who had been nauseated by Muhammad's wild driving, had never been carsick before but couldn't handle the bumps.

Hearing Muhammad's words, Khvaja didn't hesitate. He put his beloved SVD sniper rifle aside and took an AK-74 from the back, which they had just captured from the Soviets.

In the back of the truck, the guerrillas, jolted and disoriented, hadn't reacted yet. Muhammad ran to the back and shouted anxiously, "Quick, quick, quick, everyone get out."

Seeing that the guys hadn't reacted, Muhammad grabbed the nearest one and pulled him out.

"Get out, take your weapons, and follow me!" After pulling the guy out, Muhammad picked up the AKM rifle that had been thrown to the side.

At this point, the people inside finally reacted. Durani, holding the captured heavy machine gun, was the second to get out of the truck.

The other guerrillas also got out one by one.

Khvaja also came to the back of the truck, watching Muhammad anxiously getting the team members out. Some of the team members had bruised faces, clearly from the bumps in the truck. Khvaja finally came to his senses, wondering why he had followed Muhammad's orders without thinking.

Seeing Muhammad's anxious expression, Khvaja still asked, "What are we going to do now?"

The truck couldn't move, so were they going to run back? If the truck couldn't return, the loot couldn't be taken back, and the battle would have been for nothing.

"We're going to shoot down the helicopter. We don't have much time," Muhammad said. Without waiting for everyone to get out, he added, "Follow me, quickly!"
