Tang Ran was a little surprised after she heard the girl say so, “The appointment I made with the store manager was really today…”

“Do you have his phone number? Call and ask?”

“En.”

Tang Ran asked “Luoluo” to dial the store manager’s cell phone number from her contacts, and soon after, the phone rang on the other side.

“Sister Tang?” The not awake voice of the man over the phone asked in a muffled voice, “Why are you calling so suddenly?”

“Store manager, we have an appointment for today…”

“Ah!” Tang Ran didn’t finish her sentence, and the other side cried out, “I forgot about it! You wait, you wait, I’ll be there in a minute—ah no, I can’t get out of this, just wait I’ll find you someone, they’ll be there in ten minutes!”

“No, it’s fine, we can do it next time….”

“That’s not okay, how many risks do you take when you come out, you can’t let it go to waste! Just wait, I’ll find someone, they’ll be there in ten minutes, twenty minutes at the latest!”

“…”

Tang Ran didn’t have time to respond, and the other side had already hung up the phone.

A few minutes later.

K University Junior Divisions’s Special Laboratory.

“Brother Zhan, the phone’s ringing.”

“…”

The pair of long legs lazily resting on the computer desk had no movement, no response.

After waiting several seconds and seeing the incoming call really wouldn’t stop, the boy leaning against his chair sleeping finally frowned and closed his eyes to take the phone out of his pants pocket.

“…Hello?”

If Tang Ran were there, she would’ve been surprised to find that the careless and nice voice of that person was eight or nine points similar to the “Luoluo” in her cell phone.

At this moment, the anxious voice in the cell phone held by the boy’s slender fingers rang out: “You’ve finally answered the phone—Jianghu emergency, ancestor!

Jianghu: I know it means something like an underground organization, mafia, etc but I have no idea what it means in this context? He calls LZ ancestor because in Chinese society, respect for their ancestors is a big deal so he’s flattering him.

“Go die, won’t help.”

The boy closed his eyes and indifferently disconnected the call.

Within seconds, his phone vibrated again.

“……”

A few seconds later, Luo Zhan was at his wit’s end and opened his eyes, taking his long legs off the table. He picked up the phone irritably, “… Speak.”

“I beseech you, ancestor! Just go to the INT store and help me open the door to get something. The customer had an appointment for half a month to pick it up today and I forgot! I’m here for my midterm dissertation, I really can’t get away!”

“Would it kill him to go back tomorrow?”

Okay I could just translate it as ‘she’ but I just wanted to share. As you know, in English, we have she/he, her/him but in Chinese, they have the different words for both genders (他/她) but the pronunciation is exactly the same.

Luo Zhan’s dark eyes were gloomy.

He was born with a pair of extremely good-looking peach blossom eyes, the inner corners were deep and sunken, the end of the eyes slightly upturned, the peach blossom arc full and beautiful. At this time, the cold eyes had a disdainful look in them but still had its own somewhat lazy and indifferent appeal.

The shop manager cried on the opposite line, “It’s a blind little girl! Going to the store is already not easy, how do I have the heart to ask that!”

“…”

There were in a deadlock for a few seconds.

The boy in the chair dropped his annoyed face and gave a low, careless “tsk”.

“Got it, keep her waiting.”

With that, he got up from his chair and dropped his phone on the table in one smooth motion. Then he picked up the jacket hanging from the back of his chair and slung it over his shoulder before walking out with a sullen frown.

Arriving outside to the lab, the others noticed and asked strangely, “Brother Zhan, weren’t you just sleeping after running the algorithm all night? Why are you going out again?”

Luo Zhan lazily walked out, stopping after hearing the words.

After a low snort, he stepped forward with long legs, rubbed his sore shoulders and neck, and walked away with a blank expression—

“Showing compassion, doing charity.”

“…?”

At this time, over at the phone that had just been disconnected by Luo Zhan.

The INT store manager was relieved, “Not bad, not bad, Luo Zhan still has some humanity left.”

Meng Xueyu next to him was already anxious, “You asked Luo Zhan to go to the store to give goods to Sister Tang Ran? With that devastatingly handsome face of his, when… when Sister Tang Ran sees him there, like a dog seeing a meat bun, there will be no coming back!”

“Who are you calling a dog.” The shop manager leaned toward him, “And are you stupid, what’s the use of Luo Zhan’s good-looking face, can Sister Tang see what he looks like?”

Calling someone a dog in Chinese is an insult because dogs obediently obey their masters. It’s repeated again later on, I think.

“Ah, right!” Meng Xueyu blanked out and touched the back of his head, “I forgot.”

Within a few seconds of being relieved, Meng Xueyu began to frown again, “What if Luo Zhan sees that Sister Tang Ran is good-looking and becomes impressed with her?”

The shop manager said, “You think Luo Zhan is you? How many beauties has he seen since he was a kid, and which one have you seen him take up.”

“You’re right, his standards are too high.”

“He doesn’t just have high standards, he’s already a weirdo.”

It was actually ‘pervert’ not weirdo but there’s no perfect translation for the word, I think, it just means he’s abnormal.

“?”

Seeing Meng Xueyu’s confused expression, the store manager smiled, “You don’t know, do you? Luo Zhan has a particularly unique preference—he’s only fond of beautiful eyes.”

“A person with beautiful eyes?”

“Right, or else with his family looks, the girls who chased him since he was a kid could circle K three times, so why haven’t any of them been able to stand next to him. Didn’t someone at the lab say so before? It’s hard to have a pair of beautiful eyes that Luo Zhan approves of.”

“Tan Yunchang, it’s your turn.”

The assistant professor in the next room suddenly came out and called toward the outside.

“Ah, finally.”

The head of the INT shop, or Tan Yunchang, responded quicky as he got up.

“So don’t worry about it. No matter how pretty Tang Ran is, she’s still a blind little girl with ordinary eyes, let alone beautiful eyes. Why would Luo Zhan be interested in her?”

Before leaving, Tan Yunchang patted Meng Xueyu’s shoulder and mysteriously lowered his voice.

“And I’ll tell you a secret, I heard that his family has arranged an engagement to a lady from a noble family, coincidentally she seems to also be surnamed Tang—so he will have a beautiful woman waiting at home, and won’t steal your Sister Tang Ran.”

“…”

Looking at Tan Yunchang’s back, Meng Xueyu frowned blankly.

That being said …

But why was his heart so uneasy.

A/N: A few months later.

Meng Xueyu (with tears): Pah!!

祸害: it’s applied to LZ’s face, i had it as like disaster-bringing, devastatingly handsome and annoyed(?) but is there a better word? it’s literally used in totally different situations so idk the connotations

there were some metaphors/idioms that i translated into english metaphors or just in different terms, do you think i should keep them for cultural accuracy or??

also ik i have a million and one notes throughout but this chapter was heavy w/cultural nuances and stuff (imo!)
