Several people were startled in sucession, then slowly reacted.
”Oh, so that’s why you said it was an idea that came up when you were helping the weak today?”
”Robot for the blind? Sounds like a good idea, at least to serve the public.”
”We could do a feasibility study first.”
”Then let’s do it as a group.”
”……”
The INT members had been working together for many years and were like-minded, a gathering of elites, so their efficiency has long been honed to a surprisingly high level.
With a few words, an initial plan was decided, and the meeting was over. It was no longer early so everyone joked and left, each preparing to go home or back to the dormitory.
When there were a few people left, Meng Xueyu, who hadn’t left, finally walked to the sofa after a long struggle.
”Brother Zhan,” he squeezed out a smile, “You seem to be quite concerned about the little blind girl from the store today?”
Luo Zhan was already reclining on the sofa with his eyes closed, and it took a few seconds before he spoke in a lazy voice, “Who said that.”
Meng Xueyu slightly gritted his teeth, “If you didn’t care, then you didn’t choose this direction for research and development for her, right?”
”…. When did I say it was for her.”
Luo Zhan finally opened his eyes, and unlike his lazy tone, the pair of eyes were pitch-black and deep under the lamp that no light could penetrate into them.
The atmosphere visibly stiffened, someone nearby noticed and promptly went over, hooking Meng Xueyu’s shoulder and patting him, then smiled at Luo Zhan.
”Brother Zhan, you shouldn’t lower yourself to his level. He’s just jealous.”
Luo Zhan asked coolly, “Eating whose vinegar1?”
(in chinese, vinegar has connotations with jealousy.)
”Hey, Brother Zhan, asking this question, whose vinegar would he be having? There aren’t many people on our team who don’t know that Xueyu likes that little girl—every time he hears she’s at the store, he rushes over there immediately.”
Luo Zhan glanced at Meng Xueyu, “You like that little girl?”
Meng Xueyu went rigid. After a few seconds he stuck out his neck, “That’s right. I like her.”
”Oh.” Luo Zhan lazily slumped his eyelids and got up from the couch, “What’s it to me?”
”……”
Meng Xueyu lowered his head without speaking.
Luo Zhan didn’t feel like bothering with him, walking past him into the inner lounge.
Just as he was a person-length’s distance away, from behind Luo Zhan a tense and hostile voice came from Meng Xueyu: “Brother Zhan, you really don’t…. don’t like her?”
”……”
Luo Zhan stopped, raised his eyelids, and didn’t speak.
The guy who hooked Meng Xueyu’s shoulder was stunned before laughing out loud. He reached out and dealt a slap on Meng Xueyu’s head, “You little youngster, has running algorithms for the past two days made you foolish? Who are you saying Brother Zhan likes? The little blind girl he only briefly saw today?”
”Don’t laugh, Tang Ran is very pretty!” Meng Xueyu stuck out his neck in dissatisfaction and talked back to him.
”Good-looking is good-looking, but no matter how good-looking, still a little blind girl.” The guy who held Meng Xueyu shrugged his shoulders, “You came to INT recently and aren’t aware, not to mention that we have trouble accepting it—Brother Zhan is only interested in the eyes of a beauty. It hasn’t changed since entering INT a few years ago, how could he fall for the little girl you like? “
The boy finished, looking back to the front, “Brother Zhan, aren’t I speaking the truth?”
”……”
Luo Zhan didn’t make a sound.
After a few seconds, the corner of his mouth hooked indifferently, “Not just that.”
”Eh? Not just that?”
”It’s not just about beautiful eyes.”
Luo Zhan stopped mid-sentence.
Thinking of the petal-like mark from his dreams, his eyes sank a little.
After an instant, Luo Zhan snapped out of it. He headed toward the inner room with his long legs, resuming the lazy tone and throwing behind him: “Eyes that can’t see, I certainly don’t like.”
Hearing the words personally coming from Luo Zhan, Meng Xueyu’s troubled heart was finally relieved—
Luo Zhan was a man of his word, and there was nothing that could make him renege when he made up his mind. Meng Xueyu was still uneasy even when others explained, but he was completely relieved when Luo Zhan himself spoke up.
The guy next to him was still bewildered: “Not just beautiful eyes? What other conditions are there, why haven’t I heard?”
”……”
.
Early next morning.
Tang Ran stood in front of the bedroom window, hanging her hand uneasily, “Granny, this dress seems like a lot of trouble to wear?”
”How is it troublesome?” Yang Yilan tightened the straps for her, the dress’ skirt outlining the girl’s very holdable2 slender waist. “Here, turn around. I’ll zip it up for you.”
(like, you wanna hold it bc it’s a good-looking waist… does that make sense?)
”I can do it myself…”
”This dress is different from the simple ones you usually wear, so I’ll have to adjust it for you—you’re going to the Luo family’s birthday banquet today, you must dress up especially beautifully.”
Tang Dye smiled helplessly.
After a few seconds of rustling, Yang Yilan made a soft sound of surprise, “Xiao Ran, you have a red mark on your back3 here. How did you get injured?”
(more exactly, it’s the small of her back, in more english terms, but that sounds clunky)
Tang Dye was thinking, “It’s a birthmark.”
”Birthmark?”
”Mm, I’ve had it since I was a kid.”
”Oh, it’s quite pretty.” Yang Yilan smiled and took a look at it, slowly pulling up the zipper, “Like a flower petal.”
Tang Dye was startled.
After a few seconds, the girl closed her eyes and laughed very gently. “Mm. Someone’s said that before.”
Yang Yilan had lowered her head, not hearing the words. After tying a bow behind the girl’s lower back, she clapped her hands and stood up straight, smiling with satisfaction.
”Alright—our little fairy is ready to go. We’re going to make them properly stunned today.”
A/N
Before people.
Luo Zhan: Oh. It’s none of my business if you like her.
Behind people.
Luo Zhan: My wife. Everyone close your eyes, don’t look. Mine :(
if anyone’s put off by how they keep referring to tang ran as blind little girl, it really doesn’t sound as demeaning/offensive in chinese, blame my incompetence at translating (it could also be TL as little lady)… also see what i mean when this novel’s not stressful? we literally learn a paragraph later that tang ran is the one w/ the birthmark. maybe readers like the suspense (ok, i do too usually but sometimes you just wanna be in the know and see how the characters react yknow!)
next posts coming next thursday! i would’ve continued wednesday except i have finals next week :)) someone wish me luck please!!!!
youthful you who was so beautiful: a truly beautiful story. no summary i write can do it justice. i totally BINGED it (esp the end) bc i needed to know how it ended asap-ity rockity. here’s my summary attempt: a teenage girl meets a guy through a fateful meeting. through more coincidences, they grow into a relationship where they love and depend on each other. did that do it justice? i don’t really think so. go read it and tell me how badly i did!
