Chapter 5.1 – Doesn’t Go to Night Study Under The Heavy Snow (1)
❥❥❥
Entering December, the New Year Party became a new topic for students.
The party in the No.3 Middle School is different from other schools. The party is not held in each class but in the school gym. The school will set up a stage for a concert in the gymnasium, with LED screens in the background, lighting on the stage, and cameras and camcrane in front of the stage. The level of professionalism is no less than that of a star concert.
Because Lin Xiaoran performed well before, everyone unanimously recommended him to represent Disciplinary class to participate in the selection of the school’s teachers and students. Lin Xiaoran lived up to expectations and successfully qualified to perform. It is said to be a song usually sung at a party, but what song and who sings it remains secret for the time being.
Nan Xiangwan, who has experienced all this, has no impression of Lin Xiaoran’s performance, but she remembers Liu Yubai and Chen Shiyun from Rocket Class. Liu Yubai played the violin, and Chen Shiyun danced a folk dance. Nan Xiangwan was not interested in these, nor could she see the pros and cons.
In fact, she was very interested. Who doesn’t want to look at the world from another angle?
She had thought countless times that she had only ever looked from the stands, when can she stand in the center of the stage and look at the stands? It’s a pity that since she was a child, her mother only enrolled her in tutoring classes. She never registered for interest classes. She really didn’t know much about music, dance, or art.
Admit it, she’s just jealous of Chen Shiyun. She can’t eat grapes and says grapes are sour1.
[1] You can’t eat grapes and say grapes are sour is a metaphor for something you know you can’t have or a goal you can’t achieve.
The fourth class this afternoon was a physics class. Didn’t know if the teacher forgot to attend the class or asked for leave. Ten minutes passed and no teacher came in. Everyone consciously started self-study.
It is a self-study, but it’s actually free activity. The classmates in the front are chatting, the game masters at the back row are playing cards, and Jiang Daling who is Nan Xiangwan’s deskmate is squeezing acne while looking at the mirror.
Jiang Daling’s pimples grow on her lips, and the location is like a matchmaker’s mole. The color is red and white, and it is crystal clear. It doesn’t look ugly at first glance, but a bit more playful.
matchmaker’s mole
Nan Xiangwan asked, “Why don’t you participate in the show?”
Jiang Daling has a good appearance, good figure, and especially can dress up. She is particularly eye-catching among the plain-looking high school students. Even if everyone is wearing exactly the same school uniform, she would tie a headband to her hair, wear a lace shirt inside, or cut her trousers to show her slender ankles. Every look and smile is very similar to the girls in the art department in the college. To say she has no talent, Nan Xiangwan doesn’t believe it.
“Me?” Jiang Daling lowered her head and smiled, “I don’t want to go. If I go, I will definitely frighten others.”
Nan Xiangwan wasn’t accustomed to Jiang Daling’s ‘I2‘ at first. Later she found out that Jiang Daling was just like this, like a little princess who isn’t grown up. Everything should be pink, preferably with a shiny diamond, talking with a baby voice, has little courage, afraid of this that and all day long, and wants the boys to help bring something to eat when she’s studying at night. As long as she behaves coquettish and cute, the other party will obey. If one day she doesn’t say ‘I’, Nan Xiangwan will not be used to it.
[2] Jiang Daling used 人家 (rénjiā) to call herself while usually people will use 我 (wo). 人家 (rénjiā) usually used by a child, or a grown woman who tries to act childish or submissive. Often used as a form of sajiao (acting cute).
At that time, she thought that Jiang Daling would say this out of self-humility, and it was long time later that Nan Xiangwan learned how much helplessness was hidden in her words.
Jiang Daling hasn’t squeezed out the acne yet, Lin Xiaoran who sit in front suddenly turned around, “Oh oh, did my pimples burst?”
Nan Xiangwan took a look at it. Lin Xiaoran had a pimple on his original smooth forehead. He unconsciously scratched it while reading, burst it all at once, and there was blood on it. Although he wiped some of the blood, as time passed, more blood oozes out and forming a small ruby-like blood drop on the red acne.
“Ah!” Nan Xiangwan whispered, and found tissue paper to wipe it for him.
Nan Xiangwan has a bit of obsessive-compulsive disorder. She should recite words to a whole number. There should be no mistakes in taking notes. The stationery should use the same style, which is almost impossible.
“Come here!” She not only wiped off the blood, but also straightened Lin Xiaoran’s face with both hands, “Come on, I’ll squeeze it out for you.”
Lin Xiaoran was frightened, “Hey, can you do it? I have to go on stage, don’t leave me scars.”
“Don’t worry.” Nan Xiangwan glared at him and said in her heart, you, a big man, care about scars so much. Besides, the stage is so far away and the light is so strong. Who can see if there are any scars on your face?
“Ah… it hurts… you be gentle…”
The originally messy classroom quieted down with Lin Xiaoran’s scream. Everyone followed the voices and looked here. Nan Xiangwan frowned unhappily and rebuked, “What are you shouting!? Others thought I done something bad to you.”
“You are too ruthless.” Lin Xiaoran said with lingering fear.
“Can it squeeze out?” Nan Xiangwan felt relieved when all the pus and blood in the acne were squeezed out. She took Jiang Daling’s aloe vera gel and rubbed some on Lin Xiaoran’s wounds, and then comforted him, “It should be better in two days.”
Lin Xiaoran touched the acne on his forehead. It seems to be disappeared.
Suddenly, someone shouted, “It’s snowing!”
The students who were not doing their jobs were immediately attracted by this voice. Everyone quickly threw down the books, cards, and snacks in their hands and scrambled to look out the window.
The sky outside was already dark. Against the dim light, the snow fell like goose feathers one after another, and soon the dark gray ground became mottled white. Not only Disciplinary class, but the classes around also noticed that it was snowing outside, cheered one after another.
The scumbag is the scumbag, they are even make a fuss about snowing. If it’s Rocket class, let alone snow, even if it’s gold coins, the whole class will concentrate on studying and be indifferent.
Nan Xiangwan curled her lips, trying to withdraw her gaze and continue to do the math problems in her hand.
Jiang Daling held her face on the side, showing a girl’s nympho3 expression, and said with emotion, “Wow, it’s been a long time since it snowed so much.”
[3] The term nympho generally refers to a state of enthusiasm that someone likes to become obsessed when they see a tall, good-looking opposite sex, usually accompanied by excited eyes, love, drooling, uncontrollable screams, etc.
The pen tip stopped after drawing a mathematical symbol, and Nan Xiangwan fell into contemplation. Didn’t know if there is really less snow, or there is a deviation in her memory. She remember that the last time there was such a heavy snowfall was in the third grade of elementary school. That day, heavy snow covered the entire school, even the branches were bent down. From morning to night, everyone didn’t attend a class, and played for a whole day. Others play snowball fights, while Nan Xiangwan concentrate on making snowball.
She took the little snowball and walked around every corner of the school. She used the little snowball to roll over the white and flawless snow that no one had touched. Finally, she made a huge snowball. It took two hands to hold it up.
She swaggered past the school holding a big snowball, attracting countless enviable eyes. At the same time, she was secretly observing the snowballs in other people’s hands. Well, they weren’t as big as hers!
She brought the snowball home carefully, but was scolded by her mother, saying that she didn’t know how to study, only play around. Her mother kicked the snowball out, like kicking a piece of garbage that nobody wants. The big snowball rolled twice and fell off the steps, and then scattered quickly. During the whole process, she was silent.
Since then, Nan Xiangwan has stopped playing in the snow.
Soon, the scholl bell rang, and the usual big break activities were not done. The boys ran out first, and Lin Xiaoran followed. Seeing this scene, the girls were also eager to try. After a while, everyone walked out of the classroom together. Jiang Daling couldn’t hide her heart, pulling Nan Xiangwan, “Go. Let’s go and see.”
“No, going downstairs and upstairs again, it’s wasting time. I haven’t finished the question.”
Jiang Daling glanced at the exercise book she was writing, and laughed, “It doesn’t matter, the teacher will check it again.”
“No.” This is Nan Xiangwan’s habit. The homework assigned by the teacher must be done because this is part of the study and has nothing to do with whether anyone checks it or not.
Jiang Daling couldn’t move her so she had to call another girl out of the classroom.
Everyone left one after another, only Nan Xiangwan was left in the huge classroom. Strangely enough, the classroom of Disciplinary class was clearly facing the street, but she seemed to hear one after another laughter through the window.
It must be an illusion.
She shook her head, which was a little groggy from doing math problems for a long time, and then stretched out slowly, showing a smile that at least looked very relaxed, “It’s finally quiet.”
Who knew this moment of silence would only last a short time. A boy suddenly broke into the classroom. He stopped abruptly and yelled, “Wow, where are all the people?”
Nan Xiangwan looked up and found that it was Lin Xiaoran, “They play in the snow. I thought you were there too.”
“Who said? Just now, the person in charge of the party asked me to discuss things.” He looked towards Nan Xiangwan and asked, “Why don’t you go?”
“Why you care?” Nan Xiangwan said irritably. She didn’t want to play with the scumbag.
Lin Xiaoran didn’t turn around and walked out of the classroom like Nan Xiangwan thought, nor did he return to his seat to study. Instead, he walked to the window and looked at the snow outside. He just opened the window and extended his palm to welcome the snowflakes falling from the sky.
A cold wind came in, Nan Xiangwan shivering and cursing in her heart. The scumbag is the scumbag, that’s why they have a big difference in talent with the top students in Rocket class. If you don’t do your job properly, it’s no wonder you can’t get into a key university.
Nan Xiangwan withdrew her gaze and concentrated on doing the math problems. Gradually, her attention is on math problems. She didn’t notice that Lin Xiaoran had left the window and quietly walked behind her.
That question was particularly difficult. Nan Xiangwan used a few draft paper, tried several methods, but still couldn’t make it. She had to open up the answer, but the answer was relatively simple, and she didn’t understand the trick after reading it several times.
She immersed in it and continued to delve into the question. “Suppose the straight line is y=k(x+1), eliminate y, and get (4k2+3) x2+8k2x+4k2-12=0. From the question, we can see, AHH…” Nan Xiangwan shouted and shrink her neck. It turned out that Lin Xiaoran quietly collected the snow falling on the window sill and put it in her neck.
She jumped up from the seat and hurriedly took out the snow from her neck, making Lin Xiaoran laugh with her funny look.
“Are you sick?” Nan Xiangwan cursed.
Her appearance is of the kind that is not easy to approach, she usually doesn’t like to laugh, and it is even more terrible when she gets angry. Nan Xiangwan cursed, threw down the pen, and strode out of the classroom.
Lin Xiaoran realized that his joke is too much, hurriedly chased her out. The corridor was empty, only Nan Xiangwan’s back slowly drifting away. “Hey, you won’t be angry anymore right?”
Nan Xiangwan ignored him and keep going.
Lin Xiaoran was upset and had to run in the corridor. He finally stopped her at the top of the stairs and apologized nicely, “Okay, okay, it’s my fault. Don’t be angry. You can throw it to me, I promise not to move. Just put it in whatever you want until you are satisfied.”
Lin Xiaoran knew that just saying this was not enough to calm her down, so he looked around to see if there was snow ready for her. He saw a window sill and walked straight over.
Nan Xiangwan asked, “What are you doing?”
“Take snow and let you stuff my neck.”
Nan Xiangwan, who had been stern-faced earlier, smiled at this moment. Lin Xiaoran was slightly startled. Nan Xiangwan often raised the corners of her lips but it was kind of disdainful smile that looked down at all beings. This time it was different. She seemed to hold back for a long time, her smile burst out like fireworks for a long time, gorgeous and impressive.
The window was opened by Lin Xiaoran, and the cold wind was blowing on his face like a knife. Under the warmth of Nan Xiangwan’s smile, he didn’t feel cold.
Nan Xiangwan curled her lips, “This snow is too little. Let’s go downstairs.”
“Okay.” Lin Xiaoran closed the window and smiled, a bit silly.
