Chapter 34
3 min read707 words
The first volume, which was expected to be the shortest, has come to an end.
The story began with a chance encounter and ended with another.
Throughout, it was mostly about setting up the plot, along with nostalgic memories that are very much to my personal taste. When I signed the contract, the editor placed great importance on this aspect but also hesitated whether this style was too gentle.
Sometimes I have my doubts too. The style of this story is very different from my previous contracted work, "Infinite Servants," which was so intense that it seemed to want to fight from beginning to end. In over 100,000 words, there is only one proper battle scene, the one between Chenxin and the Entangled Fruit Snake.
However, I still chose to write it this way. I deliberately added a few mainstream plot twists.
Because in the first volume, I wanted to narrate a warm and cozy story of childhood and adolescence, with a touch of nostalgia.
Putting aside the gimmicks of a mix of alien civilizations, martial arts, and the confrontation with dark organizations, the origin of this book was just an idea that occasionally popped into my head.
—A story of a wild boy and a well-behaved girl, who meet in the summer, go on adventures, and become close friends.
This idea came from many aspects, but one of them is the author "Angry Banana." After reading his works "Hidden Kill" and "Alienation" a couple of years ago, I wanted to try writing something with a similar "warm feeling."
However, I am not a great writer, and there are many aspects I need to consider, deliberate, and be constrained by. In the "Starship Summer" chapter, there were many plots I had already thought out and found interesting, but they were too focused on "warm daily life" and could not be fully realized in this first volume. They could only be mentioned in passing or through the occasional memories or side narratives of the young boy and girl.
If there is an opportunity and the book's performance allows, and the plot develops smoothly, I will try to write some of these parts in the "Wisdom of the Serpent: Chenxian Chapter" when Chenxian is the main perspective.
Finally, I will use a poem from the beginning of "Boy's Life" by American author Robert McCammon, a book I really like, to encapsulate the sentiment I truly wanted to express in the first volume but couldn't due to my limited writing skills and the fast pace of commercial web novels.
If there is an opportunity in the future, I hope to write with such a sentiment:
["Boy's Life"]
In our youth, we ran wild and free like a storm,
Wherever we went, even angels dared not come near.
We ventured deep into the endless dark forest,
Even demons retreated at the sight of us.
We looked through the bottoms of cola bottles,
To see how far away the distant places were.
We saw a magical world,
A world that no car could reach.
Dogs were our beloved brothers,
Bicycles sped like rockets to the sky.
We flew among the stars,
Circling around Mars.
We swung through the trees like Tarzan,
We wielded swords like Zorro.
We raced with James Bond,
We were Hercules breaking free from his chains.
Looking far into the distance, we saw the future,
In that distant land,
Our parents were forever young,
And time passed like sand through an hourglass.
In the journey of life, a mix of laughter and tears,
We lived each day to the fullest.
The person in the mirror gradually grows old,
This book is dedicated to that eternal child.

As mentioned earlier, the "Starship Summer" chapter is the shortest origin chapter.
Following this are "Autumn of Demons," "Winter of Far Voyages," and "Spring of the New World," each with a plot volume several times larger than the "Early Summer" chapter.
The direction of the story has been determined, and it only awaits detailed description.
