When Lin Moyan had finished cleaning the room, his mobile phone that he had forgotten on the desk suddenly rang. He was startled and didn’t react for a while. For the past few days, except for Fang Yu’s voice, there was only silence in the house.
When Fang Yu took him to his house, Lin Moyan had no time to think about his phone and had left it in the dormitory. Lin Moyan stared at the phone that kept ringing as if he didn’t recognize it. When the phone stopped ringing and became quiet, he reached out and flipped it over, checking the call logs. It turned out to be his mother who had called him.
Scrolling down, he found there were a good handful of missed calls from mainly his mother and Yang Yining. He hesitated for a while but pressed the caller ID.
The call was picked up as soon as it was made, and his mother eagerly asked, “Xiaoyan, where have you been these days? Why are you not answering the phone? I was so anxious!”
Hearing his mother’s fretting, Lin Moyan’s nose was sour and a huge sense of grievance struck his mind. The sufferings he endured the past few days instantly turned into a deep yearning for the comfort of his mother.
He did not dare to speak for a while, fearing that his mother would hear his trembling voice. Lin Moyan took a few deep breaths, walking to the window and looking at the deserted campus road and the green trees outside.
“Mom, I visited my classmate’s house for the past few days. I forgot to bring my mobile phone and there were too many things happening I forgot to call you. I’m sorry.”
Mother Lin was relieved and she spoke with an invisible smile in her voice, “Xiaoyan, it’s rare for you to be so close with your classmates. It’s good to go out and have fun. You used to be alone because of your body’s secrets. Now it’s good to make more friends. People can’t just discover your secrets, right? Xiaoyan, how are you settling in the dormitory? You have been away for more than a month and mother feels very uncomfortable…”
Lin Moyan listened to his mother’s rambling and tried to ignore the words his mother said about his body. Those words did not comfort him but instead accidentally sprinkled salt on his wounds. His secret was discovered so easily that there was not even a moment of suspicion before the other party tortured and humiliated him. What was he supposed to do now?
Ahh, I wish this was nothing but a dream.
His mother was still telling him how much she missed him. Although they were all ordinary words, listening to them, although they would not make him completely forget what happened in the past few days, they still calmed him a little.
Lin Moyan listened to her mother’s soft words with a smile and occasionally responded with a few words, talking about life at school. Naturally, he would only report the good things that had happened to prevent his dear mother from worrying about him too much. He was too unfilial to make his mother from a thousand miles away worry about him.
The conversation was almost over and by then, Lin Moyan had calmed down a lot. However, hearing his mother’s next words, his mood became unpleasant yet again.
“Xiaoyan, I heard Uncle Li say that since you went to school, you never called him. He called you but you never picked up his calls. Although he is your stepfather, he has always treated you well and I know that when you are at home, you also don’t treat him unfairly. What’s going on recently? Is there any misunderstanding between you?”
Lin Moyan’s hand holding the phone suddenly tightened, as if he was about to crush the phone. His mouth curled up in a mocking smile. His eyes became cold and he stared out the window with hatred.
He softened his tone as much as possible and explained, “He might have called me during class when my phone was on silent mode so I didn’t receive it. As for him calling me, isn’t it for the same reason you called me? I just need to inform you that I’m safe and doing well and you can pass on the message to Uncle Li as well.”
Mother Lin spoke again, trying to protest against his words. Lin Moyan didn’t want to continue talking and interrupted, “Mom, there is something suddenly happening on my side. I will call you when I have time. I will hang up first and see you later.”
Before his mother could speak up again, Lin Moyan hung up the phone. He threw the phone on the table and sat on the chair feebly with his upper body on the desk, burying his head in his arms.
After finally escaping the stepfather who had ill intentions towards him, how could he contact him again? If possible, he hoped to drive that person out of his house so that he can no longer affect his life.
However, his mother was not as young and it was difficult to find someone who would treat her well.
He hoped that after a few years, his stepfather would forget about his intentions and would take care of his mother so that she wouldn’t have to live a lonely life again.
Lin Moyan was groggy and almost fell asleep until his cell phone rang again. Looking at the caller ID, he saw that it was Yang Yining. Lin Moyan originally didn’t want to answer but the phone kept ringing and he knew that sooner or later, he would have to explain to the other party why he was absent these days. So he simply pressed the answer button.
Before he started talking, the distressed voice from the other side came over. It was similar to his mother’s tone just now.
“Xiaoyan, where have you been recently? No one answered your phone, nor did you go to your bedroom. Auntie couldn’t find you, so she called me several times.”
Lin Moyan listened to Yang Yining before speaking slowly, “Brother Yang, I have been staying with a classmate these few days. Don’t worry.” Yang Yining heard Lin Moyan’s explanation and was relieved until he felt there was something wrong.
His younger brother had never been close to others so he asked again, “With who? As far as I know, you don’t have such a good relationship with your classmates.”
Lin Moyan instantly regretted picking up the call. He knew Yang Yining would not be as easy to fool as his mother. He could only bite the bullet and say, “Well, with a roommate.”
Yang Yining’s tone was full of suspicion, “Xiaoyan, as far as I know, you only have three roommates. Two of them went back home and the other remaining is Fang Yu, who you dislike…Xiaoyan, you…did something happen?”
Lin Moyan wanted to throw the phone away at this time. He really didn’t know why Yang Yining wanted to pry so much. He chuckled lightly, showing that Yang Yining’s worry was unnecessary, but his eyes were cold without a trace of warmth.
“Heh…Brother Yang, I’m fine. I’ve been with Fang Yu these days since he’s helping me with something. I just forgot to bring my phone with me since I was in a rush. My relationship with him has eased a lot so don’t worry. If you don’t believe me, you can call Fang Yu and ask.”
Lin Moyan never knew that he could be so slippery until even he, himself almost believed that it was true. Yang Yining seemed to believe his explanation and gave a few more sentences on being careful.
“Next time, if something happens or you need help, come to me. Don’t keep it to yourself.”
After being bombarded and questioned by the two closest people in a row, Lin Moyan felt that his nerves were about to break down. He quickly hung up and switched his phone off to avoid other incoming calls.
What an unexpected situation, I just want to rest quietly.
