Chapter 46

"No, according to the clan's rules, new members must be observed for three years before they can be registered." At the same time, in the main hall of the Xiao Clan, an elder's eyes were wide open, and he spoke in a rough voice.

Xiao Li and Xiao Long sat in the center of the hall, discussing with the elders on both sides about Xiao Yan's early registration into the clan. They had been discussing for two hours, and as Xiao Li had expected, many elders strongly opposed it. The two sides argued incessantly, unable to reach an agreement. The supporters argued that special cases should be handled specially, and a genius like Xiao Yan should receive special treatment. However, the opponents had a solid argument: the clan's rules were the rules and could not be broken for anyone, or else what would be the authority of the rules? Both sides stuck to their positions, leading to a deadlock.

Xiao Long's face was extremely grim. He slammed his palm heavily on the table, causing splinters to fly and the surrounding teacups to shatter. Xiao Long's temper was not good to begin with, and the elders' obstruction made him extremely displeased. For a genius like Xiao Yan, if he was not registered soon and had to wait three years according to the rules, he might be recruited by someone like Emperor Ming, leaving them in tears. No one had stipulated that clan members could not join other forces, and as long as he was not registered, he could.

Seeing Xiao Long's anger, the elders all shrank back. Xiao Long's position in the Xiao Clan was second only to Xiao Li, and no one dared to speak when he was angry.

When the elders were all silent, an elder sitting in a corner suddenly stood up and said, "Breaking the clan's rules to prematurely register a clan member is indeed inappropriate. I suggest this: Xiao Yan is indeed a genius, as everyone can see. As a special case, he can be registered early, but at most two years early. He must first challenge someone one level stronger than him. Only if he wins can he be registered. He is currently a mid-stage one-star Dou Di. In a year, the clan can select a late-stage one-star Dou Di for him to challenge. What do the other elders think?"

This was clearly a balancing act, not offending anyone. Although it was somewhat excessive, it at least gave Xiao Long a way out. Under the current circumstances, this was probably the only solution.

Xiao Long's expression eased slightly.

Xiao Li also knew that this might be the only way. Forcing Xiao Yan's immediate registration would not be convincing. He asked Xiao Long, "This is a good suggestion. What do you think, Xiao Long?"

Xiao Long's anger had not subsided. He turned to Xiao Li and said, "Do you not know the difference between mid-stage and late-stage? Asking a mid-stage one-star Dou Di to challenge a late-stage one-star Dou Di in a year is too unfair. Even for a genius, who do you think can advance from mid-stage to late-stage in just one year? What's the difference from not advancing at all?"

"Ha ha, look at how long Xiao Yan has been here. Just that one cultivation session made him reach mid-stage one-star Dou Di. Since he is a genius, we should believe in him. You like to bet, don't you? How about we bet again this time?" Xiao Li was calm and collected. Unlike Xiao Long, as the actual leader of the Xiao Clan and currently the strongest, although he was not as skilled in alchemy as Xiao Long, his insight into cultivation was very keen. He always felt that Xiao Yan was more than just a genius. Even before his first cultivation session, when he was only an early-stage one-star Dou Di, he could match a mid-stage one-star Dou Di in the Tianming Valley. So, he also wanted to see if Xiao Yan could defeat a late-stage one-star Dou Di in a year.
