In the year 1999 (Spring, April 5th)
Today is my 700th birthday. I have been living in this city under the name Ning Yue for nearly fourteen years. I wonder when the pursuers from the divine realm will find me. The technological progress in the main world has been rapid these past few years, and life has been unusually comfortable. I truly hope it can stay this way forever...
Ning Yue only started the habit of writing a diary in recent years. He wouldn't write anything important in it, just some complaints and reflections on life. But just as he was about to write a long, rambling entry, he was suddenly interrupted by a clear voice.
"Bro! I just sent love messages to all the girls in your phone. So far, fourteen have replied, and without exception, they all rejected you. You're not very popular with girls, are you!"
"What did you just do?"
Ning Yue was shocked and quickly snatched his phone from his cousin Pang Qian's hand.
He flipped through the messages and counted carefully. "I" had sent a total of twenty-one messages, all of which read, "I've had a crush on you for a whole semester. Today, I've gathered the courage to tell you, can you be my goddess? Ning Yue, who silently admires you, dares not reveal his name!"
"Pang Qian! I'm going to kill you..."
Ning Yue leaped off the bed. Seeing his cousin indeed angry, Pang Qian turned and ran without a word.
Pang Qian's academic performance was average, but he excelled in all sports, whether it was sprinting, long-distance running, long jump, high jump, basketball, or football. He was more agile than a monkey.
Ning Yue had just opened his bedroom door when Pang Qian was already halfway down to the third floor. Ning Yue's home was on the fifth floor.
"Don't let me catch you!"
"Cousin! You probably won't catch me in this lifetime."
"Next time, don't ask me to help you with your studies!"
"Next time, I'll definitely find a way to make you help me willingly. Like last time, I brought a love letter signed Ning Yue to your class. Before I could even hand it to your female class president, you chickened out..."
"You bastard!"
"Then you're the bastard's cousin!"
Ning Yue rushed out of the house, but Pang Qian's voice was already fading away. He glanced out the window and saw that the little rascal had already reached the first floor, running faster than a rabbit.
Ning Yue couldn't help but curse and returned home dejectedly. In fact, he wasn't really angry, just feeling that this trouble was quite tricky. His cousin Pang Qian was mischievous and had caused countless problems. Ning Yue hadn't expected that in the short time he was writing his diary, this troublesome cousin would pull such a stunt.
Ning Yue flipped through his message history and couldn't help but exclaim, "Damn, he even sent a love message to our English teacher. I really hope tomorrow is the end of the world, or that the people from the divine realm show up!" Although Ning Yue didn't want to read the rejection messages, he had to. Even with his intelligence, he found this situation quite troublesome.
Of the fourteen girls who replied, nine were relatively gentle in their rejection, using the excuse that they already had boyfriends. Three used the excuse that he was a good person but they weren't a good match. One used the excuse that she needed time to think. As for the remaining five girls, two were sarcastic, one used the word "get lost" to reject him, one scolded him for prioritizing studies, and the last one was from their English teacher, Zhang Ying.
This English teacher had only graduated from the Normal University three months ago and was assigned to their class, causing all the male students to be excited. She was incredibly beautiful.
When the students privately voted for the goddess of Minghu Middle School, this new English teacher received the highest votes, surpassing all the other girls in the school.
The new English teacher's reply was entirely in English, and fortunately, Ning Yue's English reading skills were quite good, so he could勉强 translate it.
The message roughly translated to: "If you were ten years older and sent this message to me as a senior in university, I might consider it." The female teacher rejected him gently, giving Ning Yue's little heart a bit of warm comfort.
After about one to two hours, Ning Yue's mood gradually calmed down. He prepared various apologies for the next day, bracing himself for a significant loss of face. He checked his phone messages again, and there were still only those fourteen. He sighed in relief but couldn't help feeling a bit depressed: "Not a single one agreed. I thought I was quite popular among the girls!"
Although Ning Yue wouldn't have sent mass love messages, he did have some expectations. The fact that all the replies were rejections left him feeling quite frustrated.
Ning Yue was a good student, always among the top three in the entire grade. He was very hardworking and self-disciplined. After finishing his homework, he would usually review other subjects, such as reading English originals to improve his language sense or doing a few science tests. But today, he had no such mood. After checking his completed homework for any errors, he went to bed early.
That night, Ning Yue tossed and turned, unable to sleep well. It would be strange if he could sleep well!
The next morning, Ning Yue got up early. He really didn't want to go to school and face the inevitable loss of face, but his rationality told him he couldn't avoid it and had to face it.
Ning Yue cursed his cousin Pang Qian seventeen or eighteen times but could only sigh and pack his schoolbag. He tidied up his appearance and left for school early, hoping to intercept the girls outside the school and explain the situation.
Although this incident caused Ning Yue a lot of confusion, he felt it was best to resolve it quickly to avoid more negative impacts.
Ning Yue arrived at school about an hour early, but the school gates were still closed, and there wasn't a single student in sight. He paced outside the school for about seven or eight minutes before the gates opened. It took another ten minutes or so for students to start arriving.
"It's Luo Shengsheng! She's here early today."
In Ning Yue's school, if we talk about appearance, about six or seven girls could rival Luo Shengsheng. In terms of figure, only three or four girls could compete with her. Luo Shengsheng, a third-year student, was already 1.69 meters tall, with particularly long and straight legs that looked much better than the various PS-ed legs on the internet. But in terms of temperament, Luo Shengsheng was unanimously considered the best, recognized by almost all the boys in the school as the most intellectually beautiful girl.
This beautiful classmate had a rather cold personality, caring only about her studies and not interacting much with her classmates. Her grade ranking was always in the top ten, just a bit behind Ning Yue. She was a well-known ice queen and a talented girl.
"Luo Shengsheng didn't reply to my message yesterday, but with her personality, she probably just ignored it. My apology should be brief and to the point, not too verbose, which might make it seem like I'm trying to cover something up, which would be counterproductive."
Ning Yue gritted his teeth and steeled himself, walking a few quick steps to intercept Luo Shengsheng about two to three hundred meters from the school. He cleared his throat, about to speak, but Luo Shengsheng, wearing a full-rim black glasses, casually handed him a card and walked past him quickly, not giving Ning Yue any chance to speak.
