Chapter 77
4 min read1,120 words
The story of the Overlimit Warrior is not particularly novel. It's about an ordinary boy named Zhuxia who, during a summer camp, discovers a strange plant. This plant is "alive" in a way that isn't just biological; it seems to have a kind of intelligence.
The plant reacts to external stimuli and can even sway its branches to music, dancing gracefully. It's full of all sorts of quirky and amusing behaviors.
The boy secretly brings the plant home. One day, the plant's fruit transforms into countless tentacles that penetrate the boy's body. At first, he is very afraid, but soon he realizes that not only has the strange plant's fruit not consumed him, but he has undergone many positive changes.
First, his nerve reflexes become dozens of times faster, his agility rivals that of Spider-Man, and his strength is dozens of times greater than that of an average person. His thinking and memory have also significantly improved, and his athletic and academic performance skyrocket to the top of the school.
During a traffic accident, the boy can't help but intervene, saving the passengers from a flipped bus. This draws the attention of intelligence agencies from various countries. An organization in the United States called S.H.I.E.L.D. sends an agent named "Leopard" to capture the boy and bring him back to the U.S. alive.
Leopard, the antagonist, is played by a strikingly handsome mixed-race young man. His first appearance is with a cool scene: a little girl is playing at the airport and falls down the stairs. Leopard leaps out, catching the girl in mid-air, and at the same time, a coin flies out of his pocket and accurately lands in a vending machine. When he safely lands with the girl, a cup of milk tea flies out of the machine.
Despite the blatant product placement, the handsome mixed-race young man gains a lot of points for the heartwarming scene of saving the little girl and giving her a milk tea.
Then comes the urban battle between the protagonist Zhuxia and Leopard. The two fight across skyscrapers, taking up more than half of the movie. Although the plot is almost nonexistent, the stunts are very impressive, and the scenes are quite lively.
The movie doesn't have much of a story, but there are a few particularly interesting scenes. For example, in an amusement park, Leopard watches a chubby boy playing a claw machine. The boy can always grab the toys, but they fall when the claw moves to the drop slot, making the boy very frustrated. Leopard volunteers to help the chubby boy. At first, the boy doesn't believe him, but Leopard grabs the toys and then uses his super speed to shake the machine, making the toys fall out.
In the end, the chubby boy holds dozens of various toys and stares in amazement at Leopard's back, a scene that is quite amusing.
Although Leopard doesn't have many scenes, these two highlights make him more popular than the protagonist. This actor's debut was a huge success, and his later career has been better than that of the actor who played Zhuxia.
The protagonist Zhuxia has a few standout scenes, such as when he memorizes all his textbooks in one afternoon and shocks his teacher in class, or when he scores 23 half-court three-pointers in a basketball game. There's also the scene where he and Leopard fight by jumping between the walls of four buildings, which is quite impressive but still falls short of Leopard's two standout scenes.
At the end of the movie, the National Security Agency discovers Zhuxia's abilities and sends a special agent to help him capture Leopard. This special agent, named Paperman, has the ability to manipulate paper. He can turn an A4 sheet into a flying knife that can cut through steel and concrete, and he can use paper airplanes to gather intelligence. Although he only appears at the end of the film, he stands out and even surpasses Leopard in popularity, not to mention the protagonist.
In the final battle, Paperman uses a notebook borrowed from a nearby schoolboy to chase Leopard around the streets, and Zhuxia finally knocks Leopard down with a punch, which significantly boosts Paperman's popularity.
However, the movie's ending is quite unsatisfactory. Leopard, due to diplomatic immunity, can only be deported and cannot be legally punished.
When Zhuxia and Paperman see Leopard off at the airport, Leopard says coolly, "I will be back!" Zhuxia, looking very timid, shouts, "Don't come back!"
In the end, Zhuxia donates his beloved plant to the state and receives commendation. When a beautiful female officer asks what the plant is called, Zhuxia scratches his head and says, "The fruit of this plant can spin silk, and it looks a lot like a broad bean. How about we call it the Sky Silk Potato?"
After the end credits, two bonus scenes are shown. One shows the relevant authorities using the most advanced equipment to examine Zhuxia's body and discovering that his nerves have been assimilated by the roots of the mysterious plant's fruit. These roots have replaced his original nerves and can transmit information dozens of times faster than normal human nerves, which is why Zhuxia has superhuman reflexes, agility, strength, and intelligence.
The other bonus scene shows Leopard returning to the U.S. After S.H.I.E.L.D. announces his mission failure, they decide to punish him by implanting a new Venom Armor into his body. When Leopard rises from the operating table, liquid metal emerges from his skin and forms a super-cool power armor. His last line is, "I'm going to China!"
This ends the entire movie!
The movie lacks the romantic elements of a dragon-slaying story and focuses on three male leads: Zhuxia, Leopard, and Paperman. Therefore, it falls short in terms of emotional content. Although the action is intense, Lu Wenyin is not particularly fond of it and feels a bit drowsy. Yawning, she says to Ning Yue, "The Sky Silk Potato is so cute, not only dancing to music but also very amusing. But there's too much fighting, which is quite boring. Next time, can we watch a romance movie?"
Ning Yue shrugs and says, "Next time, let's watch a drama. I'll take you home first."
Since Lu Wenyin's parents know about 64 Fitzgerald Road, even with Ning Yue's thick skin, he can't leave her there for the night, even though she is technically the owner of the old villa. If her parents hadn't returned, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but now that they are back, she feels a bit shy and nods, agreeing to Ning Yue's suggestion.
