"Is it Luo Shengsheng! She can actually play basketball too?"
Ning Yue couldn't help but be slightly surprised. Zhang Limei was the class monitor, and Luo Shengsheng was the study committee member.
At Ning Yue's school, if you counted all the students in all grades, there were about six or seven girls who could match Luo Shengsheng in appearance, and only three or four girls who could compete with her in figure. Luo Shengsheng, a second-year student, was already 1.69 meters tall, with particularly straight and slender legs that were much more beautiful than the various PS-ed legs on the internet. However, in terms of temperament, Luo Shengsheng was unanimously ranked first, recognized by almost all the boys in the school as the most intellectually beautiful girl.
This beautiful classmate had a rather cold personality, caring about nothing but her studies, and rarely spoke to her classmates. Her ranking in each exam was always in the top ten, making her a well-known ice beauty and a talented girl.
Ning Yue recalled for a moment and thought to himself, "Luo Shengsheng didn't reply to my text message yesterday, but with her temper, she probably just didn't bother. I should find some time to apologize to both of them! I'll say it was a mistake with my phone, that I sent it to everyone by accident. The apology should be brief and to the point, not too verbose, or it might seem like I'm trying to cover something up, which would have the opposite effect."
Luo Shengsheng saw Ning Yue and suddenly smiled, her expression not as cold as usual, and her attitude much friendlier than at school.
Luo Shengsheng wore a pair of full-rimmed black glasses, with her long hair tied back in a simple ponytail. Like Zhang Limei, she was dressed in a fresh, sporty outfit, with eight-eighths pants that revealed a small section of her white, delicate calves, making her, the most intellectually beautiful girl at Minghu Middle School, look even more tall and graceful.
Zhang Limei pulled Ning Yue to the basket, pointed at the other side, and said, "We have enough people now. Ten points to win, the losers give up the basketball court and treat us to Häagen-Dazs."
Ning Yue glanced at the other side, and just like their team, it was a combination of two boys and one girl.
The two girls were Wu Mei and Chai Ya, known as two of the Four Heroines of Minghu Middle School. The boy, who looked rather unlucky, was Zhan Xing. He wasn't particularly outstanding in academics or sports, but he had a special fondness for magic from a young age, earning him the nickname "Magician" at school. He often performed magic tricks for his classmates, making him very popular, even with Ning Yue.
However, the atmosphere on their team wasn't as harmonious. Chai Ya seemed to have a lot of hostility towards Zhan Xing, while Wu Mei seemed to protect Zhan Xing intentionally or unintentionally, making their relationship quite complex.
Ning Yue was already feeling a headache and had no interest in paying attention to the emotional entanglements of the other team. He lightly bounced the basketball a couple of times and then asked both sides, "Who will start the game?"
Zhan Xing said indifferently, "You go first!"
Ning Yue nodded, made a gesture to pass the ball to Luo Shengsheng, and stared at the basket. Suddenly, he felt a surge of passion. Halfway through his fake move, he threw the ball high into the air and immediately started running, leaping into the air at high speed.
Just as he was about to catch the ball he had thrown and perform a powerful dunk, a pair of strong and steady hands lightly blocked the ball from above, knocking it out of his hands.
Ning Yue landed on both feet and turned his head in surprise to look at the person who had ruined his cool move.
"Chai Ya!"
Ning Yue thought to himself, "I heard she's pretty good at martial arts, not only a black belt in karate but also the women's champion in the national Bajiquan competition! But I didn't expect her to be so impressive?"
Chai Ya was about the same height as Luo Shengsheng. Luo Shengsheng was a girl with an intellectual beauty, while Chai Ya was the acknowledged queen of Minghu Middle School, with a powerful aura that made many boys feel inferior in her presence.
He looked at Chai Ya's imposing stance. After deflecting the basketball, she immediately took a defensive position, which was quite intimidating.
Ning Yue reflected that he and Chai Ya were not in the same class, and he didn't have her phone number. The group message list didn't include Chai Ya or the other girl, Wu Mei, so he felt a bit more at ease.
Zhang Limei was in a good position, so she caught the basketball that Chai Ya had deflected. The class monitor casually passed the ball to Luo Shengsheng. Although it was clear that Luo Shengsheng had played basketball before, her skills were really quite average, and she was quickly intercepted by Wu Mei.
After a few exchanges, Ning Yue realized that unless he activated the Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant template, they were sure to lose.
Chai Ya and Luo Shengsheng were about the same height, but Wu Mei was almost seven or eight centimeters taller than Zhang Limei. Moreover, these two girls' athletic abilities were on par with the boys on the school basketball team, completely overwhelming the two girls on their team.
Zhan Xing's skills were more than a level above his, almost neutralizing the super athletic abilities he had gained in the preview version of the Divine Crystal.
"If I use the Qingyu Chengfeng Technique, we would definitely win this game, but then I would probably be dissected, right?"
Ning Yue wasn't very concerned about the outcome of the game. He hesitated for a moment and decided not to enhance his abilities. The result of the game was no surprise; they lost 6-10.
Zhang Limei and Luo Shengsheng were good sports. They not only gave up the court but also bought six Häagen-Dazs ice creams from a nearby store, even including Ning Yue, the "defeated general," which made him quite embarrassed.
Chai Ya and Wu Mei, along with Zhan Xing, clearly had some conflicts. They won the court but didn't play basketball. After a few arguments, Chai Ya stormed off angrily. Wu Mei and Zhan Xing, who weren't as domineering, invited Ning Yue and the others to play together after Chai Ya left.
Ning Yue had a great time that afternoon.
Around 5:30 PM, Zhang Limei had to go home for dinner, and Luo Shengsheng and Wu Mei said they were tired, so everyone dispersed. Wu Mei and Zhan Xing naturally went together, as they were in the same class. Ning Yue, of course, was responsible for taking Zhang Limei and Luo Shengsheng home.
The class monitor's house was very close, so after Ning Yue dropped her off, he was left alone with Luo Shengsheng. While they were all playing together, Ning Yue didn't feel it, but now, being alone with her made him feel quite awkward.
Although it was already summer, the temperature had dropped significantly by 5 or 6 PM, making a walk quite pleasant. However, Ning Yue felt increasingly hot, breaking out in a sweat, and his undershirt was drenched without him noticing.
Luo Shengsheng didn't speak much on the way. Just as they were about to reach her house, she suddenly said, "Ning Yue! I remember you were very good at studies in the first year. I couldn't beat you in several exams. Why did your grades drop so much in the second year?"
Ning Yue was slightly taken aback and shook his head with a hint of sadness.
This was related to a big secret of his, and he didn't want to tell anyone, not even Luo Shengsheng.
PS: There's an Easter egg in this chapter... I doubt anyone will notice it.
