Chapter 51: Mission Sass
6 min read1,378 words
A few mercenaries came in to turn in their missions, laughing and joking as they left, discussing where to go to enjoy themselves with the bounty.
The atmosphere among Luo and the others was somewhat gloomy. They had originally planned to form a mercenary group, but Carol and Bing Zhiye couldn't participate, which made them unhappy.
Carol said, "Don't be like that. Four people can still do it. I believe you will definitely become very powerful in the future, just like 7S. Who knows, you might even become the eighth S."
Wei suddenly said, "Hey, why don't we all join the mercenary group Bing Zhiye is in?"
"Ah..." Bing Zhiye was somewhat surprised.
Irina said, "Idiot, we need high-ranking officers to accept us into the group. Where is Bing Zhiye going to find high-ranking officers in his group? Besides, we don't even know if they would want to accept small fry like us."
Kornelia also said, "Let's form our own group. There are many friends in the academy, maybe someone will be willing to join us?"
"Right, right," Irina said. "With Kornelia's holy and legendary unicorn, many people will surely want to join our group. We might be too busy accepting new members, so we need to secure officer positions first."
"Officer, leader!" Wei laughed foolishly. "Hahaha, when I, Wei the Great, lead a group of followers, we'll be invincible! Hahaha..."
The four of them sighed simultaneously, "Idiot, here we go again."
Luo asked, "What should we name our mercenary group?"
Wei immediately said, "‘Invincible Leader,’ hahaha, this name is so powerful, I like it hahaha..."
Irina clenched her fists and endured, "Pretend he doesn't exist, let's talk."
After much discussion, they decided to name their group 'Holy Unicorn' because Kornelia's unicorn was the most epic and mythical. Kornelia would be the leader, Luo, who had the highest work points, would be the deputy leader and combat team captain, Irina would be the deputy leader and logistics team captain, and Wei, who was still laughing foolishly, would be a regular member.
After Kornelia submitted the application to the mercenary guild, the 'Holy Unicorn' mercenary group was officially established. Since each of them was a D-level mercenary, with 8000 work points per person, and four people, they had a total of 32,000 work points, far exceeding the standard, so their group was also D-level. However, to upgrade to C-level, they would need 94,000 * 4 / 2 = 188,000 work points.
The specific promotion rules for individual mercenaries are as follows:
To F-level: 0 points needed. F-level tasks score 1080 points or less. Minimum 12 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To E-level: 960 points needed. E-level tasks score 80,200 points or less. Minimum 40 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To D-level: 8,000 points needed. D-level tasks score 200,100 points or less. Minimum 94 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To C-level: 94,000 points needed. C-level tasks score 1,000,500 points or less. Minimum 150 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To B-level: 750,000 points needed. B-level tasks score 50,000,300 points or less. Minimum 114 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To A-level: 3,400,000 points needed. A-level tasks score 300,000,150,000 points or less. Minimum 67 tasks of this level needed for promotion.
To S-level: 10,000,000 points needed. S-level tasks score 150,000,500,000 points or less. SS-level tasks score 500,000,1,000,000 points or less. SSS-level tasks score 25% of the current mercenary level.
The reason Irina took five years to go from F-level to D-level was that she wasn't constantly doing tasks but only during her free time. B, C, and D-level tasks are very challenging, and most mercenaries are at this stage. However, there are many tasks at these levels, and with the right skills, one can still advance.
Each of Kornelia and the others took three to five tasks, ranging from D-level to E-level. They were very lucky to get a D-level group task that would earn them 500 work points each.
After receiving the tasks, Kornelia happily said, "For the first mission of our 'Holy Unicorn' mercenary group, everyone must work hard and not fail a single task!"
"Okay!" The four of them put their hands together in a traditional and classic way: "One, two, three, let's go!"
The adults around them laughed at the sight of these young people. One of them sighed, "When I was young, I was just like them, full of passion and energy."
Having secured good tasks, the next step was to prepare the necessary supplies. The academy provided standard uniforms and weapons, but some still wanted better equipment. Healing potions, juice made from dada tata and honey, antidotes, and camping supplies, as well as extra clothes, were all essential.
The academy didn't blame them for missing classes, as this was a common occurrence during practical sessions. The academy was in a semi-holiday state, and the lessons mostly covered what to pay attention to in the field.
Wei, Kornelia, Irina, and Carol were all excited about this, each actively buying what they needed on the streets and in shops.
"I haven't had any money to spend recently..." Bing Zhiye sighed inwardly and used the opportunity to leave, returning to the mercenary guild. He found an empty window and said to the staff, "Sister, I want to take on a mission."
The female staff member, seeing the small figure barely taller than the counter, smiled and said, "Little sir, what kind of mission do you want? What level are you? I can find you a suitable mission list."
Bing Zhiye pressed his hat down and shook his head, "No need." He took out a piece of paper from his pocket and said, "I'll take these three missions."
The staff member smiled and took the paper, but was immediately startled. She laughed at Bing Zhiye, "Little sir, don't joke with me like that, okay?"
Bing Zhiye handed her his mercenary card.
"Ah~!" The staff member gasped, seeing a bright red 'S' in the lower left corner of the crystal card. She was extremely surprised and thought, "Impossible, an S-level mercenary! I've never seen an S-level mercenary since I started working here. How can a child have one? Is it fake?" She then said to Bing Zhiye, "You... please wait a moment, I'll verify this card."
Mercenary cards are made by the mercenary guild using special materials and a small piece of memory stone, with a magic array inside that only the guild's high-ranking officials know. Injecting magic power can verify its authenticity. The memory stone records the mercenary's information and mission details, with an array inside that records based on the individual's elemental composition and life characteristics, accessible only by the owner. There are two pieces, one embedded in the mercenary card and one kept by the guild as a backup.
The guild does this to protect personal privacy and because the guild is established by various countries, none of which want their citizens, especially important officials, to have their information known by enemy countries. Thus, the guild's founders shielded their ability to access mercenary information to avoid trouble and becoming public enemies.
The staff member soon returned, asking in surprise, "You are really an S-level mercenary?" She had already verified it, but still couldn't believe it. Indeed, it was hard to believe that even strong men in their prime might not reach A or B levels, let alone a child reaching S-level. But the fact was right before her eyes, and she had to believe it.
Bing Zhiye's window was in a corner, and the guild was quite noisy, so the staff member's words weren't heard by others. However, soon a commotion arose. A staff member injected magic power into the top-level mission memory stone, and the S-level and the only SS-level mission turned green, indicating they had been accepted, and at this guild.
"Who, who..." Only S-level mercenaries can accept S and SS-level missions, and everyone knew this. The guild was in an uproar, all wanting to see who could accept such high-level missions and what an S-level mercenary looked like. At that moment, the staff member saw a thin figure disappear through the guild's door.
