That was a human.
To be precise, it was a human boy. He was around ten years old but was more robust and taller than his peers. Perhaps due to years of physical activity, his limbs were long and full of explosive power, almost like a young snow wolf that had just come of age.
The boy had a head of disheveled gray hair, clearly not styled in any way, but rather haphazardly cut with a sharp tool, giving him a wild and unrestrained look. Especially those bright, ruby-like eyes, which were defiant and untamed.
He wore a faint smile on his face as he approached the deer. He squatted down and gently stroked the deer's forehead, saying, "I'm sorry, buddy. Food has been hard to find lately, so you see, I can't let you go. Come on, I'll help you find peace."
He placed his hand on the hilt of the dagger, gently pulled, and severed the deer's artery. Strangely, no blood spurted from the wound. When the boy pulled the dagger out of the deer's body, the blood on the dagger was almost boiling!
The blood was absorbed by the blade in some mysterious way, eventually disappearing completely from the dagger. The dagger remained as clean as ever, with the golden patterns reflecting the sunlight, casting a faint halo. The boy looked at the dagger and said, "You greedy thing, you're getting more and more voracious."
He sheathed the dagger and fastened it to his waist. He then grabbed the deer's front legs and hoisted the animal, which was larger than himself, onto his back. As he walked toward the shade, he muttered to himself, "I hope Bai Fang will get better soon after eating this deer."
This boy was none other than Allen, who had left the Gobi town with the silver snow wolf Bai Fang five years ago. Five years had passed, and he had grown from a little boy into a teenager.
During these five years, Allen lived with the wolf pack. He hunted with Bai Fang and learned many things from her. Occasionally, when Allen looked at the dagger left by his mother, he would think of that black and white scene.
The black ground, the white broken finger, and the silver ring on the finger, which glowed with a sad light.
Every time he saw this scene, Allen had to bury himself in the winter snow to extinguish the burning flame in his heart. It was filled with hatred for the man who had abandoned his wife and child.
Archimedes! That father he had never met, one day, he would stab the man's heart with a cold dagger!
As he approached the valley where the wolf pack lived, Allen suddenly heard gunshots. His face changed, and he dropped the deer, sprinting forward.
There were hunters!
This was not good, as the wolf pack was going through a very difficult time. Bai Fang was injured! A severe injury.
Six months ago, the wolf pack migrated to a valley in this forest. In the valley, there was a cave several hundred square meters in size, which was the den of the snow wolves. They had migrated here six months ago to win the right to use the cave. Bai Fang fought the original owner of the cave, a third-stage dangerous species, a cave giant spider.
In the end, the giant spider was torn to pieces by Bai Fang, but the spider's dying counterattack also severely injured Bai Fang.
Six months had passed, and Bai Fang's condition was not good. Her fur, which once shimmered with a silver glow when Allen first met her, had become dull and was falling out. Some parts of her body were even rotting, and the air around the silver snow wolf was filled with the smell of death.
If the hunters attacked now, the wolf pack might be unwilling to leave because of Bai Fang, giving the hunters a chance to wipe them out. Snow wolves never abandoned any of their companions, and this quality had also been deeply rooted in Allen's soul.
The boy sprinted, and in a moment, he was already outside the valley.
From a distance, he saw several soldiers firing into the valley. The valley was filled with yellow smoke, which had a pungent smell. The snow wolves were forced out by the smoke, and before they could understand the situation, the soldiers' gunfire turned them into corpses. One particularly strong male wolf was shot but still bravely charged forward. Just as it was about to break through the soldiers' fire, Gutte grabbed his rifle and fired a long burst, making the wolf roll on the ground. A few more bursts sent the wolf flying, and it twitched on the ground, unable to get up.
That was Tony! A lazy but decent wolf.
Allen's already red eyes were now red as if they were about to bleed. He let out a high-pitched whistle and leaped onto a camphor tree, then pounced onto a soldier's back. Allen was as agile as a monkey, and the moment he landed, he pulled out his dagger and slit the soldier's throat, ending his life.
"Damn it!" A white soldier shouted, drawing his pistol and firing at Allen.
Living in the wild for years had honed Allen's instincts like a wild animal, allowing him to quickly duck and avoid the shots. He landed on his hands and feet and slid toward the white soldier. The dagger, reflecting the afternoon sun, cut through the air, severing the soldier's Achilles tendon. The soldier cried out in pain and fell to his knees. Allen sprang up from behind him, pouncing like a wolf.
The dagger flashed again, and the soldier was killed with a throat cut!
Gunshots rang out, and Allen was hit in the right shoulder, causing the dagger to fall to the ground. He quickly lunged forward, using the dead soldier as cover. The boy picked up the dagger, bit it between his teeth, and slid to the side to avoid the shots. In his line of sight, he caught a glimpse of Gutte's furious face.
In just a few seconds, a white-haired boy had killed two soldiers. If this news got out, Gutte's mercenary team would be laughed at until next spring. Gutte was enraged and became even more ruthless. He fired shots in quick succession, chasing Allen. Allen's agility was beyond his imagination, and he moved in a zigzag pattern, making Gutte's shots miss repeatedly.
After several side slides, Allen entered Gutte's blind spot. He sprang up from the ground, let go of the dagger with his mouth, and caught it with his left hand. Allen's pupils dilated, and his blood flowed faster. He flipped the dagger and thrust it at Gutte's throat, a streak of light trailing behind it. Gutte gritted his teeth, switched the gun to his left hand, and aimed it at Allen's forehead.
Just as the two were about to fight to the death, a hand suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed Allen's wrist, and threw him away. Allen was slammed into a tree, then a fist hit his face, sending him flying to the ground. Finally, a foot stepped on his head, the pressure increasing, as if trying to crush his skull.
"Don't kill him," Captain Andy called out.
"Why?" A woman's voice came from above.
"That kid looks like he was raised by snow wolves, a wolf child. Hey, don't you think this is a lucky find? Maybe some bigwigs in Babylon would be willing to keep a unique pet." Andy shrugged. "Besides, isn't that old man Hearn looking for a boy with no records to replace his son in the survival game? I think he'd be willing to pay a lot of money."
Allen barely moved his head, and from the corner of his eye, he could see the woman's thigh. She leaned down and spat at the boy, "Lucky you, kid."
At that moment, a mournful howl echoed from the valley. Hearing the howl, Allen's heart tightened; it was Bai Fang.
Andy also raised his hand excitedly, signaling Gutte's soldiers not to act rashly. A moment later, a wobbly snow wolf emerged from the valley. Bai Fang's appearance had changed a lot; she no longer had the silver-shimmering fur she had when Allen first met her. Now, her fur was dull and falling out in large patches, and even the areas where the fur had fallen out were rotting.
The only thing that hadn't changed was her clear blue eyes.
When Andy saw Bai Fang, his smile froze, and he clutched his head in anger, "Damn it, what is this? A silver snow wolf? Fine, it might have been, but what about now? I spent so much manpower and resources, just to hunt a dying thing?"
In her current state, even if Andy killed Bai Fang without a scratch, she clearly wouldn't fetch a good price. As Andy cursed, Bai Fang glanced at Allen. In that moment of eye contact, Allen knew that Bai Fang was asking why he didn't run.
Allen smiled stubbornly.
Bai Fang understood and let out a low growl, then began to run. Just as Allen wouldn't abandon her or the wolf pack, Bai Fang was repaying his loyalty by acting, as she had long considered Allen a member of the pack. Letting the young wolves survive was an unbreakable law of the pack!
As Bai Fang ran toward the position, Andy let out a strange cry and leaped at her. Bai Fang opened her mouth and released a breath of ice wind. Unfortunately, it was summer, and Bai Fang was weak, so the ice breath was thin and weak. Andy didn't even bother to dodge, passing through the ice breath and landing a heavy punch on Bai Fang's head.
Bai Fang fell to the ground.
She shook her head and sprang up to bite Andy. However, Andy's body moved in a strange way, and Bai Fang missed. Then, Andy simply circled around Bai Fang. To others, it wasn't clear what he was doing, but Allen saw that purple source lines were constantly being released from Andy's fingertips, like spider silk, gradually enveloping Bai Fang.
The more source lines wrapped around Bai Fang, the slower her movements became. In the end, Bai Fang was almost immobilized. Andy patted her head, smiled at Allen, and then pulled his hands, which were connected to the source lines, to the sides. Bai Fang instantly disintegrated!
Allen's pupils dilated to their limit.
"No!"
He screamed, and somehow found the strength to lift his head. Sina showed a look of surprise, then cursed and stepped on Allen again, pushing him back into the mud. Allen was now buried in the mud, with only one eye visible. His line of sight caught Bai Fang's eyes, her head cleanly cut off, and her blue eyes calmly looking at Allen.
Just like that night five years ago, when Lani said goodbye to him. That fleeting glance was filled with too many emotions, too many to express in words.
Allen stared straight at Bai Fang, as if trying to engrave her gaze in his soul.
Huge sorrow overwhelmed him.
But he had no tears.
Five years ago, he lost Lani.
Five years later, he lost Bai Fang.
Now, he was alone again. The world was as cruel as ever.
