Chapter 1

The dark sky tore apart, and lightning as thick as arms fell through the twisted gaps. Along with it came a fierce wind, carrying dense smoke, a choking smell of brass, and a pungent odor of sulfur.

These gales swirled over the land, emitting mournful howls. Wherever they passed, heavy mountains crumbled silently, turning into the finest particles and vanishing into thin air.

"We are finished... this world is finished!"

In the center of a world on the brink of annihilation, a mountain peak spanning ten miles stood alone, floating in the void. On the mountain, several middle-aged Taoists with long beards and jade crowns stood silently, their faces pale and sorrowful.

This ancient world, which had existed for hundreds of thousands of years, had once nurtured countless lives, seen the rise of numerous brilliant civilizations and powerful empires, and given birth to tens of thousands of martial saints, martial gods, and other super-strong beings.

But now, everything had come to an end. The world was collapsing, and the air was filled with the scent of destruction.

On the mountain peak, the few people slowly raised their heads and looked up at the sky, where the battle continued:

In mid-air, countless dimensions were being created and destroyed, and innumerable powerful beings emerged from these opened dimensions.

Among them were ancient giants with immense strength, capable of shaking mountains and splitting peaks; massive witch beasts hundreds of feet tall, with bones stacked together; and terrifying great demons with wings sprouting from their ribs and six arms that shattered the vacuum... and so on, in an endless stream.

Higher up, the battle grew even more intense. Countless powerful consciousnesses shot out from the depths of the void, colliding with each other with thunderous booms. Each collision was earth-shattering, causing mountains to crumble and countless dimensions to be annihilated.

However, the most terrifying sight was at the very top of the dark clouds, where enormous hands that blotted out the sky appeared, emitting auras of destruction, decay, corruption, vigor, antiquity, vastness, sanctity, and darkness. They continuously struck from the depths of unknown dimensions, and with a single grab, many creatures were reduced to flesh and blood, turning into dust...

This was a true battlefield of cruelty, where all things turned to ashes and flesh to mud!

Yet no one retreated. Yakshas, Rakshasas, Asuras, martial saints, martial gods, celestial deities, evil gods, and demon races... countless super-strong beings rushed forward one after another, only to fall like rain, their limbs and arms scattered in the void...

Seeing this, the eyes of the middle-aged Taoists turned bloodshot.

"Fight! Only through fighting can we win!"

"There is no hope; this world is destined to perish!"

"Then should we just do nothing?"

...

The few people clenched their fists tightly, their hearts aching, wanting to do something but feeling powerless. In this war, their strength was too weak.

"How can we accept this! This is a war between gods and devils, why must our world be destroyed?"

The few people clenched their fists tightly, feeling utterly powerless in the face of the impending destruction.

"Give up."

The most authoritative-looking middle-aged Taoist suddenly turned around, looking at his companions with a deep and painful gaze:

"Our fate is already sealed; whether we live or die is no longer important. But this world has taken hundreds of thousands of years to develop to our level of civilization. These powerful forces, the martial arts, and the doctrines that we have all devoted our hearts and souls to, should not be extinguished with our deaths. They must be passed down."

"The world will continue to be destroyed, but on the ruins of the old world, new life will always be born—just like us in the past. As long as our doctrines can be passed down, this world will not be considered extinct."

The others nodded; this was their shared wish before the end of the world.

"But how can the doctrines be preserved and passed down? The next world's life will surely be born from ignorance and naivety, starting from zero. How can they recognize the scriptures written in the language of this world? How can they inherit them?"

Another middle-aged Taoist said loudly.

The others fell silent. The "new world" born from the great destruction would inevitably develop a new trajectory. Faced with the unfamiliar script, no matter how much effort they put in, it would be like gazing at the vast ocean for their descendants!

"Words are just tools of thought. The truly powerful doctrines can only be understood intuitively, not through words. Since the script may be completely different, let's turn the 'scriptures' into 'paintings.'"

The leading middle-aged Taoist pondered for a long time before making a decision that would influence countless eras and epochs:

"Whether in the next world, the world after that... or any number of worlds, as long as they are human, as long as they have enough talent, as long as they can see the paintings we leave behind, they will be able to learn the essence. ——Thus, no matter what great disaster occurs, our doctrines will never be extinguished!!"

The thunderous voice echoed through the heavens.

"Boom!"

As he finished speaking, the middle-aged Taoist bit his index finger and pointed out. With a loud boom, the void was instantly filled with golden light, rippling out in waves.

A moment later, a huge, colorful scroll appeared solemnly and majestically in the void. In the center of the scroll, a massive "Dao Venerable" came to life, as if it were alive.

His gaze pierced through the scroll, his divine body spanning the void, one hand pointing to the sky and the other touching the ground, mysteriously emitting a vast and eternal aura.

On the mountain peak, the middle-aged Taoist nodded in satisfaction. His expression had been weary for a long time, as if the creation of this painting had drained much of his energy.

"Go. No matter how many eras and epochs pass, whoever obtains this scroll will be my disciple!..."

The Taoist punched out heavily, and the scroll in front of him immediately flew backward, drifting and shaking for dozens of feet before suddenly glowing with blood-red light, rolling up on its own, and disappearing into the infinite void as a streak of light...

One, two, three...

More and more people followed suit. Behind the Taoist, thousands of scrolls slowly rose from the darkness, carrying countless "Dao Venerables," "Heavenly Venerables," "Immortal Lords," "Star Emperors"... and the dreams and aspirations of the era's countless strong beings, flying into the depths of space...

The light streaks rose, and the figures, with no lingering thoughts, suddenly soared up, rushing into the depths of the sky's battlefield with smiles, determined and without hesitation...

...

"Amitabha!..."

A corner of the space slowly opened like a giant curtain, revealing an endless Buddhist paradise. A pure white Buddha looked down at the countless rising scrolls, reciting the Buddha's name, his eyes filled with boundless compassion.

The Buddha pointed with his finger, and ripples appeared, revealing eight scrolls, each with a Buddha. The eight scrolls were gathered and similarly merged into the tide of scrolls, turning into meteors and disappearing without a trace.

"I attained enlightenment through these eight methods. Whether one can be liberated depends on their karmic connection. ——Alas, the masses are blinded by delusions and cannot see through the truth of this world!"

The Buddha shook his head and turned away, the endless Buddhist paradise slowly closing behind him, leaving only a faint echo in the void:

"Medicine can only treat the living, the Buddha can only save those with a karmic connection..."

Boom!

After a long time, with a thunderous roar, the world was destroyed. This was the end of an era and the beginning of another...
