Chapter 21: Capital Verification

"What? The second row, room seventeen, has made another bid? One million? This... This is too terrifying!"

"Even the four major families can't come up with this much money at once. Who could it be?"

"What's going on? One million taels of silver, oh my God..."

Seeing the additional text on the jade plaque, everyone rubbed their eyes, afraid they had seen it wrong. But when they confirmed it was one million, the room erupted in excitement again!

One million taels of silver, even the four major families couldn't come up with that much. Who could this be, and how could they have so much money?

After all, they had already spent 200,000 taels on the lotus flower. Now, another 1,000,000 taels, casually taking out 1,200,000 taels, made people speculate who the occupant of the second row, room seventeen, could be!

"I don't believe he has that much money. I demand a capital verification. If he doesn't have the money, I'll kill this fraud myself without your help!"

Yang Jun, who thought the matter was settled, almost died of anger when he saw the new text. He couldn't hold back any longer, smashed the window with a punch, and roared!

He was almost driven mad. He had risked his family's bankruptcy by offering 700,000 taels, thinking he would definitely win the Flame Axe. But then, out of nowhere, the second row, room seventeen, came and completely overshadowed him, leaving him breathless!

One million taels of silver... When did Luoshui City have such a powerful person?

As for the capital verification, it was a common practice at auctions. When the value of the auctioned item exceeded a certain amount, to prevent people from disrupting the order with empty promises, the bidders had to be verified!

Only those with sufficient funds could continue bidding. Otherwise, they would be punished for disrupting the auction, and no one would say a word even if they were killed!

Yang Jun's demand for capital verification made the auction house manager hesitate.

Although capital verification was disrespectful to the bidders, to avoid losses, it had to be done!

"Let's do the capital verification. If the other party has the funds, the room must have been taken over by a supreme person, possibly even from the capital. I should go myself!"

The manager was still hesitating when a calm voice sounded in the room, and a young man walked in.

"Master Chen Xing, you're here..." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Chen Xing, the first heir of the Chen family and the young master of the Luoshui Auction House, held a revered position, his word was law, and his decisions were not to be questioned.

"What should we do? How could you bid such a price? If they verify our capital and we don't have the money, we'll be killed!"

In the second row, room seventeen, Yang Yan was anxious. He couldn't understand why Nie Yun, usually so wise, would bid such a price!

They had cheated 8,100 pounds of gold from Li Fu, which was equivalent to 810,000 taels of silver. Even with the 70,000 taels from Nie Yu, they only had 880,000 taels. How could they come up with one million?

Moreover, they had already spent over 200,000 taels!

If they didn't have the money, they could have not bid, but now what would happen if the auction house came to verify their capital? How could the other party let them off?

Half a year ago, someone in this auction house had reported a false bid and was strangled to death at the front door! This person was even an inner disciple of one of the four major families, but the family didn't dare say a word!

Not to mention the punishment for false reporting, even his half-brother, the first heir of the family, would face the harshest punishment if he wrote a bad check at this auction house!

"This is over..." The usually calm Yang Yan felt they had caused a huge disaster!

"Don't worry!" Ignoring Yang Yan's anxiety, Nie Yun smiled faintly, took out a jade plaque from his pocket, and made several intricate hand signs on it, as if imprinting something.

"What are you doing?" Seeing his strange actions, Yang Yan, though anxious, couldn't help but ask.

"Of course, I'm making money. This jade plaque is now worth at least 400,000 taels. When the auction house comes to verify, just give it to them!"

He casually threw the jade plaque to Yang Yan and smiled.

"400,000? You're not kidding, right..." How could a jade plaque be worth so much? Yang Yan scratched his head, wondering what was special about it, when he heard a knock on the door.

"Esteemed guest, I am Chen Xing, the first heir of the Chen family and the young master of the Luoshui Auction House. I come to verify your capital. Please forgive the intrusion!" A gentle voice sounded from outside.

"Come in!" Hearing that the young master of the auction house was sent, Nie Yun was somewhat surprised but not too shocked, and had Yang Yan open the door.

"Esteemed guest, I apologize, but the price of one million for the Flame Axe is too high. Our auction house is a small business, so... I apologize for the disturbance!"

As the young master of the auction house, Chen Xing naturally knew who was in each room. Though he had guessed it wasn't Nie Yu from the Nie family, he was still taken aback by the two unfamiliar faces.

But who was Chen Xing? After years of experience, he was a shrewd person, showing no surprise on his face.

"Ha ha, no problem. Give him the jade plaque first, let him verify its value!"

In his previous life, Nie Yun, due to his low status, had never met Chen Xing. He didn't expect Chen Xing to be so composed, which made him feel good.

"Okay!" Though Yang Yan didn't know why Nie Yun was so confident, he still handed over the jade plaque as instructed.

"An ordinary jade plaque... actually contains the cultivation method of a martial technique?" Chen Xing was startled when he casually glanced at the jade plaque, his face changing immediately.

As the young master of the auction house, he had seen many valuable items and knew a lot.

Martial techniques were special cultivation methods that could enhance combat power beyond one's level, extremely rare, and there were only a few in the entire Luoshui City! Martial techniques, like cultivation methods, could only be recorded on special jade plaques, but now one was recorded on an ordinary jade plaque... It was unbelievable!

Ordinary jade plaques were very fragile, and recording text or images on them could easily cause them to shatter... Who could do this? What kind of identity?

He had heard that in the capital of the Divine Wind Empire, there were super-strong people who could record things on ordinary jade plaques, but he never believed it. Could these two really be from the capital?

"The heads of the four major families all have martial techniques, and they are all noble upper-class skills. Let's see what level this martial technique is. Recording it on an ordinary jade plaque shouldn't be too strong!"

Martial techniques, like bloodlines, were divided into five levels: Imperial, Royal, Noble, Upper, and Common. The higher the level, the more precious and powerful they were.

As he thought, his spirit scanned the jade plaque, and his eyes gradually widened, his body trembling!

Three Stacks of the Yangtze River, Noble Upper Class!

The martial technique on this jade plaque was also a Noble Upper Class!

Though he hadn't cultivated it, Chen Xing knew that this martial technique was among the best in the Noble Upper Class!

Taking a deep breath, he forced down his shock and said, "I can't estimate the value of this jade plaque, but it's worth at least 400,000 taels. If you trust me, I can arrange an auction now. We only charge five percent interest on the auction proceeds!"

"Fine!" Nie Yun didn't say anything more, just waved his hand casually.

"Apologies!" Chen Xing turned and left.

"You... sold a family martial technique?"

Seeing Chen Xing walk away, Yang Yan finally realized what the jade plaque was, his eyes wide, looking at Nie Yun as if he were a monster.

Cultivation methods and martial techniques were the core of a family. If a family found out someone was selling them, they would treat the seller as a traitor!

"This isn't our Yang family's martial technique!" Seemingly understanding his confusion, Nie Yun explained, "Don't worry, I'll tell you about it later. Enjoy the show for now!"

"Nie Yun... you've changed!" Hearing the young man's words and recalling the scenes he had seen today, Yang Yan realized the gap between him and this young man was not just a little. Taking a deep breath to calm his shock, he slowly said, "But I like this change!"
