On the top of the Qing Hang mountain was a demonic cult. All around the country, rumours were told that the Demon Head[1] there would not hesitate to eat humans and drink blood to cultivate their skill, and would use children to cultivate into pills. Unfortunately, people had a hard time navigating their way up the terrain on the Qing Hang mountain, making it so that they could not even exterminate the demonic cult to this day.

Although the demonic cult’s rumours were not exactly so, and the people that lived on the side were well off, but the leader was really a demon- every day, they would want to do some evil deed. Until finally, the demon that wanted to do bad things failed terribly at an easy task[2]– when they went out for a while, some person poisoned him, and drew out a defect left from back when he was training where in the night, he would go enter a state of mania.

During these times, only Elder Chang Ge[3] could only hold down the leader.

Elder Chang Ge was already present when the previous leader was still in position, with a small disciple following by his side. After so many years, that little disciple had seemed to grow a lot, but Elder Chang Ge would be as always, with his never changing appearance.

In the night, when the leader had gone mad again, the elder cleanly knocked him out without hesitation and locked him up, and let someone invite the legendary Miracle Doctor Xie[4] from the Doctors’ Valley.

Of course, the demonic cult’s methods were typically clear-cut and without hesitation. A few people lurked just outside the valley for a few days, and eventually took advantage while the other party was ventured out the valley to cover the person in a sack, knock them out, and carry them back on the shoulder.

When they went to report the completed task, the elder was reckoned to have gone off somewhere again, and the leader that was locked inside the room looked at the few people and coldly laughed, “You guys just do what the elder tells you to do, it seems like I don’t even need to be the leader any more- I can just give this demonic cult to him directly with both hands cupped.”

“Leader, please have mercy.”

The few who begged for mercy from their mouths was not even afraid in the slightest in the their hearts. Although the leader was a bit of an idiot and simple-minded, his heart was not all that bad. Elder Chang Ge had already been in the cult so many years, the number of accomplishments were countless- if he had wanted to be the leader, he would have stolen it early on; although the leader was seriously ill with suspicion, who thought that anyone he saw would want to kill him, and his mouth would murmur about wanting to do bad things- he never did anything that would be against reason and nature[5] , and only killed those who should be killed.

When the Demon Head looked at these people, he would get angry, but when he recalled how he would be possessed in the night, he endured it, “Was it not said that the person was brought here? Where is that person?”

The few people rushed to tear apart the sack, and undid the other party’s ropes.

Once they entered his vision, he was met with a beautiful pair of eyes flowing with suspicion and a wave of harshness to it. The Demon Head was stunned, and asked, “You guys didn’t just get fond of some family’s daughter, and purposefully deceive me to kidnap them, did you?”

When Xie Zhi An saw with one look at how the other person was poisoned and further carried a hidden disease[6], he originally wanted to say a few words, but when he heard this from the Demon Head, even if the person had a better temper, their face would slightly dampen, “The demonic cult and Doctors’ Valley have always been on good terms. If you truly wanted to find a doctor, you should have just gone to the Doctors’ Valley and ask for treatment- why must you use this kind of extremely third-rate method to bring this lowly one here?”

Just as he finished speaking, a faint fragrance filled the air, and the few people who had tied up Xie Zhi An fell not too long after. Towards the Demon Head’s suspecting and furious gaze, he brushed his sleeves and cupped his hands, “As I still have things to do, I will first take my leave. If you were to sincerely ask with all your heart, my father would not leave one to die.”

The Demon Head in front of him most definitely had power higher than his- he did not know what he was fed growing up, that even the drugs he created on his own would not affect him. Although he did not know why this Demon Head was being locked up, it would be best to leave this place early.

—Is what he thought, but he unexpectedly could not get out of this sinister place……

The Miracle Doctor Xie who ordinarily was not good with directions had become even more confused in this unfamiliar demonic cult. At first, he was still worried if he could get down the mountain before dark, but now, he could only sit on top of the eaves, count the stars and gaze at the moon.

From a high place, he could see that the area was not complicated, but after walking and walking, he would always wind up back here.

How about he take care of that Demon Head’s poison, then have them bring him out?

When Xie Zhi An was still looking at the sky counting out how many stars there were exactly, a loud sound came out from somewhere. When he gathered his spirit to listen closely, he could constantly hear the sound of shackles colliding. He had suddenly recalled that frivolous and blind Demon Head today.

Because he had looked especially delicate, since he was small, every time Xie Zhi An went out with his father, he would be considered by others as a little girl. When he who was normally docile heard others say how he was like a girl, his face would immediately sink.

Everyone knew this was something Doctor Xie could not hear about.

Although he was unwilling, when he recalled the face he saw today, if that Demon Head was still untreated, he reckon his life would enter its final days not too long after. Since doctors had the love of parents[7], and since he was unable to recall anything bad the Demon Head did normally after thinking about for a half day, Xie Zhi An decided to go back to take a look.

Without knowing what that person had exactly experienced afterwards, others would not be able to tell- but on the account of diagnosing illnesses for many years, Xie Zhi An could only see a thing or two. The other person had become a medicine human[8] for quite a long time- with poison colliding against that, his body had long already been exhausted[9]. As for details, he would have to wait until he could take a closer look in order to understand it.

He didn’t know what sins he committed, to have become a medicine human in the present.

That poison seemed to have been there since he was small, but there was never a lack of demonic cult’s enemies- this country’s ‘right sect’ was not exactly the most innocent either, but to see someone do this to a child, it was not like he had not seen no one capable of it. After recalling something, Xie Zhi An suddenly laughed out loud.

While talking constantly in his mind, he quickly made his way to where the sounds were coming from. When he saw the Demon Head that was still clear-headed in the day now with eyes turned red, the entire person’s internal energy already severely leaked outside, the room inside had long already turned into a mess, and those around did not dare to surround him.

He didn’t know who it was that said out loud “Doctor Xie has come”, all the people uniformly knelt down, and pleaded Xie Zhi An to save that Demon Head.

The person they were pleading to be saved had already lost his reason. Xie Zhi An also did not know why these people would be willing to go through all these difficulties[10] for this kind of Demon Head. If it was as he thought, shouldn’t these people take the opportunity while this person was sick to kill the other person, then take the position for themselves?

He did not understand. Having dealt with those from the ‘right sect’ for so many years, Xie Zhi An was still unable to understand those hypocrites who posed as one with high morals, even more so these people from the demonic cult.

Having received these people’s worship, he naturally went to treat that Demon Head, and thought- he felt he should take up a disguise[11], otherwise, it would be as his senior sister[12] said, these people would not be afraid of him, “I can save this Demon, but after the task is complete, you guys must have me sent back to the Doctors’ Valley safely.”

Xie Zhi An was not afraid what these people would do to himself, since no one dare to provoke the people of the Doctor’s Valley.

Xie Zhi An shook out the drug hidden in his sleeve, moved quickly in front of the demon head, then swayed his hand in his face, wafting the scent of drugs up the demon head’s nose.

Once the other person’s blood red threads had gradually retreated from their eyes, Xie Zhi An smiled like a cat that stole fish[13], and looked a bit cute- when he raised his hands, silver lights flashed between his fingers, then hit the Demon Head’s nape without hesitation.

Before he fainted, the Demon Head heard that quack speak up with a very elated voice,

“Fu Yuan[14], it looks like I’ve saved you once again.”

[1] To be more proper, this should be translated as “devil” as not to confuse with the type of ‘demon’ our fox was from the previous story. The ‘demon’ (妖) our fox was indicates a non-human origin (can be plants, or other animals) while the ‘demon’ here (魔) is used when a human chooses not to cultivate ‘correctly’ (to become an immortal), using methods shunned by other practitioners hence considered evil. The term can also be used to indicate particularly strong demon (of non-human origin). I’m choosing to use ‘demon’ rather than ‘devil’ simply because the head of a demonic cult should be a demon head, rather than devil, and calling it a devilish cult instead seems off.

[2] The expression here is, ‘to overturn/capsize the boat in a sewer’.

[3] The exact same Chang Ge as the last story, the bone engraver.

[4] Miracle Doctor- the title may refer to a doctor of extremely high ability, or a doctor who essentially performs miracles. (Note: I will be shortening to all future instances of Miracle Doctor Zhi to just Doctor Zhi. It’s just too long to constantly miracle doctor too many times.)

[5] Or, to do things offensive to the heavens and reason.

[6] Could also mean an unmentionable disease.

[7] A phrase describing how doctors often care very much about the sick, as though a parent cares for their child. Alternately, it could also mean to treat children (patients) equally, not giving particular favour to one child.

[8] A person who has been exposed to poisons and drugs for all his life.

[9] The expression is, an arrow at the end of its flight.

[10] The exact expression is- to go into boiling water and step through fire. Risk their lives through thick and thin.

[11] Not exactly a physical disguise, but rather, disguising things like words, or pretending to act a certain way.

[12] Here we start to experience the downside of having titles that can clearly describe one’s relationship to another in relation with another person when the language you’re translating into has no equivalent naming schemes. 师姐 – refers to a person who shares the same master/teacher as the person of reference, but is also their senior, and is also a girl. ALTERNATELY, it can also refer to the master’s daughter that is older that person in reference. But for the sake of not calling them senior sister apprentice all the time, I’ll be opting to call them senior sister.

[13] An expression that could also mean to harbour a lover outside (a marriage), or a term to refer to a husband that is not loyal.

[14] The Yuan of Fu Yuan (渊) means abyss. Curiously, Xie Zhi An’s name (知安) means to know how to calm/soothe. Just some fitting names for our main characters here.
