Xu Hao Ran felt his own soul floating about. By his ears, he could faintly hear his own tender voice from when he was young, “This disciple greets Master.”
The loud and clear sound of kowtowing resounded as though it was yesterday. He saw the man in front look at the young child for a long time, and slightly let out an ‘en’ in response.
The little Highness would always say that Chang Ge liked him, favoured him, and that his gaze would not leave him even after a long time. Now that he watched carefully, it was as the other person said. Chang Ge had an immense amount of patience for him. It was clear he never cared for elder brother(app.) and the Highness, and yet he single-handedly taught him martial arts step by step.
Not long after, it seemed that he too also admired Chang Ge a bit, and his gaze would also once closely follow him, that it could even be said to be a dependency.
At the top of the tall tower, his little self would be at Chang Ge’s elbows to welcome the orange-red daylight, swarmed with coming and going cloud and mist, and look on at the tile-roofed houses beneath that were like ants.
“Do you know what the Xu family intends by having you sent to me?”
“Disciple knows.”
“What about you?” Chang Ge looked at him. His features were shallow, but he did not know why his eyes would carry a tenderness to them, “Xu family’s loyalty, is that your desire?”
The young child did not understand the elders’ intention. But when he looked at the vast rivers and mountains, the inside of his heart was instead turbulent[1], and his blood strangely sprang up.
“No, I want this country to flourish and the people to live in peace- not for the monarch, and only for the country’s citizens.”
The tender yet resolute voice resounded as though by the ears. The onlooker Xu Hao Ran extended his own hand wanting to touch the face that was now still occupied. But after he saw his own hand stained with blood, he shrunk it back once again.
What a great “Not for the monarch, and only for the country’s citizens.”
Since when did it start that he and Chang Ge gradually separated from the intimacy between a master and disciple?
It seemed it was when he met the little Highness, when that little person shot him a smile, with bright eyes and white teeth, being extremely good-looking. When he saw the youth at a loss on what to do, he subconsciously gripped his fists, and then slowly said, “Greetings to the little Highness.”
Why he would like the Highness, truth be told, Xu Hao Ran too did not understand. But when he saw the Highness, he would feel happy. When the little Highness would affectionately pull on his hand, and get close to him, he would feel his heart beat very hard.
The youth who had not come in contact with love before unknowingly reached puberty[2], with their heart pulled along by a string- wherever the other person pointed to, it would run into wherever as they wished, without a single justification needed.
At first when looking back at it, one would feel it was a wonderful memory, that Xu Hao Ran could not help but raise the corners of his mouth, but also fill with anguish. It was just as easy as this- to like this one person, even if his self-respect were to be trampled on by people, he would not bear to let go, and even hurry on to be abandoned by people like this.
When he looked back, it was quite tragic, but Xu Hao Ran also felt he had it coming.
When he observed his entire life, the little Highness did not exactly be all that nice to him. He only spoke a few good words, and at times he was interested, he would crook his finger, and he would then sway his tail and happily go towards him; looking back at him, the rest of his lifetime since meeting the Highness, was as though it revolved around the other person as the center. The other person only needed to sit idly and enjoy the fruits of others’ labour. He took his one sincere heart and offered it and let him wreak havoc with it, but what did he get in exchange?
Exactly who was it that lied to him, that a sincere heart, can be exchanged for a sincere heart?
Clearly…… Clearly he did not get anything at all.
By his ears was a depressing sound of the blade piercing into flesh. Xu Hao Ran’s gaze could not be gathered together to properly look at Zhou Jun Yan’s expression at that time. After thinking, he felt this was quite good. This way, the little Highness in his memories would still look good.
He really wanted to ask the Highness, in face of his own tender feelings, did he ever have a sliver of being touched?
He listened to the sound of the knife knocking onto the floor, and listened to the little Highness’ sound of crying as though a heavy weight had been lifted from him. Xu Hao Ran really wanted to stroke the other person’s face, and tell Zhou Jun Yan, “Don’t cry.”
With his train of thought gradually floating further, Xu Hao Ran faintly seemed to have heard Chang Ge’s voice. The other person seemed to have asked,
“Have you ever regret it?”
Regret? He too was not sure.
“To experience the human realm’s sufferings for him, don’t tell me you don’t have the thought of, even a small sliver of regret?”
A picture that was foreign yet seemed to be familiar had suddenly lit up in the darkness. Each scene passed by, as though looking at his own story.
“For him, you did not even hesitate to discard your immortal status to search through a few ages, but what was the result in exchange? What of the words of never using bone engraving on him that was said?” The man’s voice carried mockery and anguish, “You liar.”
From a prince whose body carried a secret, to a rabbit gentleman who bore a grudge, and again to a miracle doctor who had a mouth but was unable to say anything, and in the very end turned into a small, small infant, affixed on imprinting since long ago.
“This child has a destiny with me. If it were to be any more, then let him enter our gates.”
The picture had changed again, the sage-like handsome man’s features were gentle, and the pair of eyes carried affection, “Chang Ge, I(Master) must go search for him now.”
The young man knitted his eyebrows, and their eyes had a bit of redness to them, along with imploring, “Master, he does not like you. Why do this? Stay by my side, can’t you? Didn’t we have a happy time together before?
“You can take me for him. It would be enough to take me for him. You’ve already been mistaken for a few ten years, you can be mistaken for a few more hundred years, even more than a thousand years, what is there that is not possible?”
The man lightly laughed, and resolutely and mercilessly broke away the other person’s fingers one by one with both hands, then gently said, “It’s no use, Chang Ge. No matter what, you are not him. To mistaken you guys, was originally my fault. Right now, I should have everyone returned to their right path.”
The Chang Ge that looked to be omnipotent in Xu Hao Ran’s eyes, at that moment, unexpectedly seemed to be a bit discomposed. The lips had long already been bitten through, and his reddened eyes were very grim, “You should give up. You originally chased him for two lifetimes. For him, you even defied the heavens, changed destinies, and created the method of bone engraving for him.”
“Do you dare to make a bet with me?” Chang Ge’s expression in his eyes was unstable, while the bloodstain on the corner of his mouth was still not dried up, “We’ll bet on whether or not you would use bone engraving on his body.”
“I won’t. Once the art of bone engraving is used, one would experience pain that enters the bones.” The look of tender, deep affection had made Chang Ge clench his teeth, “How could I bear to use it on him.”
But he did not do it. Every lifetime, that person suffered through the pain of engraving.
By his ears was Chang Ge’s voice. He lightly asked, “Regret it? If you say you do, we can still return to those days from before.”
Before his eyes flashed that person’s likeness[3]. Xu Hao Ran too did not know if he was replying Chang Ge, or was telling himself. “I don’t regret it.”
Never regret it before.
Chang Ge laughed, then, his finger pointed at Xu Hao Ran’s forehead, and a sweep of gentle light gathered in one area. He lowly muttered, “He personally sent a blade into your heart. Whether you regret it or not, it is no use. I won this bet.”
The rays of light that originally still had some dazzle to it were enveloped by the sudden arrival of dark clouds, and Zhou Jun Yan who was formerly a bit out of his head had let out a loud scream, then limply sat at the floor, with their hair hanging loose like a lunatic.
The perfectly well vast stretch of clear skies, at this moment, seemed to have wind and rain come soon. Thunder struck lively, with its deafening sound making people feel alarmed.
The fan by Chang Ge’s waist gradually warmed, then, Xu Hao Ran that previously still had some struggle in him at that moment made no more noise. When he got up and passed by Zhou Jun Yan, the usually expressionless face was dyed in some resentment and delight of the mortal realm, “You’ve lost the person who loves you the most in this world.”
“No longer will there be this kind of person that would offer up their entire being and heart to let you trample on.”
“He only used up a lifetime’s worth of good fortune in exchange for a few lifetimes of good graces. Your destiny with him is not one on the same path. He is the sky’s bright pearl, whereas you, are nothing but an ant on the ground.” Chang Ge’s eyes carried a vicious resentment, and smiled, “Fortunately there was an idiot like you that did not know to appreciate the bright moon, that he would then finally return to my side.”
He was also his…… Master……
