A rain was lightly drizzling down, but Mo Jing Yu was not in much of a mood to look at how discomposed the person was kneeling underneath his foot, and only finely appraised the tea that had just been served, pondered, and thought that the aftertaste was not sweet enough, and that the hindrance that was by his leg was bothering his heart[1].
As a way in support of him, Nai Man Jin sent him over for the matters regarding Zhou suing for peace. From the view of outsiders it was seen as such, but Mo Jing Yu instead felt the other person harboured evil intent, and could not see any good in him. But this was just great- he could finally do as he wanted.
“I have already said- if you want to request for peace, let Mo Qi come.”
Ever since Zhou’s people knew the person who advised at the back of Sahada was Mo Jing Yu, as mountains were high and waters were far[2], the citizens who had no way of doing anything to him could only shower that fire of anger towards the Mo family and Mo Qi. The Emperor ignored the Concubine’s request, and could only have Mo Qi demoted again and again, up until when he completely broke off the father-son relationship, that the situation then got a little bit better.
Perhaps the Emperor was extremely delighted with this- no matter how he favoured the Concubine, he was also the Emperor of a dynasty. The threat of Mo Qi, from the Emperor’s point of view, could be said to be not trivial.
The Mo Qi who had made many years of planning hated him to death by now.
Mo Jing Yu wanted Mo Qi to hate him, but also not be able to do anything much to him. Just like in the beginning, when the other person liked to also play tricks on him like this.
“I also want Lord Mo to come, but the Emperor would not definitely be happy……”
The voice had not yet finished, when the cup in Mo Jing Yu’s hand first fell onto the floor, and the still hot tea mingled together with the cup’s fragments, and splattered onto that person’s face. The face had some red marks, but the other party endured the pain and trembled, and did not dare to say one more word.
“I said, I wanted Mo Qi to personally come request for peace.” He pinched the chin of the person kneeling by his leg. The beautiful face smiled, but the eyes did not have a single sliver of emotion, “If the Emperor has no intentions of peace, it’s not like I don’t have any other options. I can only tell Khan that Zhou’s messengers did not bear any good intent, that they sue for peace yet have no good faith at all. Lord Li, you should know what kind of result this would create, no?”
“Do you feel, as primary offender, that the end you will face could be any better compared to that of Lord Mo that you are trying to protect?”
The sound of a soft mumbling tempted a person’s deep-most darkness, just like a snake concealing itself within the darkness. If there were even a small sign, it would take one bite down and firmly haul it out.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. I will definitely report it, and have your intent conveyed to the Emperor.”
Very soon, the Mo Qi that had been restricted within his home had been dispatched as Zhou’s envoy to seek peace. Behind him were those guards that previously caught him and Mo Li, and this time, not only were there Sahada’s soldiers, but also Nai Man Jin that sat next to Mo Jing Yu’s side.
Compared to when he left for Sahada, Mo Qi had grown a lot more older. The former jet-black hair had now been dyed with some silver threads. The other person narrowed their eyes looking at him, with that face as hateful as always, “Little Fishy, it has been a long time since Father has seen you. You have grown to be much prettier now.”
“Long time no see. I see you are even more nauseating than ever.”
This time, it was his turn to use a disdainful gaze to look at the person in front of him, “Mo Qi, a ceasefire is possible, but I need the Zhou’s Emperor to hand you over to me.”
Mo Qi laughed, recklessly, with mockery. The look of disdain in his eyes were as though like the very beginning, when he was still a little child that was completely defenceless, and the other person was someone that had a tight grip on his own life, “Little Fishy, you grew up so big from such a sweet little child. But from the beginning to the end, you haven’t learned to control people’s hearts at all. At first, I should have not sent Mo Li to your side. It was he who had you spoiled.”
He was not wrong, Mo Li certainly had spoiled him.
No matter if a year passed, two years, or even perhaps many years after, he had no way of possessing Mo Qi’s perfectly calm composure, and the arrogance one would have as someone of the Mo family; he furthermore could not learn Eldest Sister’s kind disposition and technique of reading into other people’s feelings, and make use of allure and one’s own forte to control other people’s emotions with one hand.
He was actually Mo family’s one greatest failure.
Without Mo Li supporting him, no one would take a look at him.
It was precisely because Mo Qi saw through him, that he would be so fearless, and use that underestimating gaze from the beginning to look at the present-day him. Even if he might soon become a captive, in the other person’s heart, he himself was still that young child that could accomplish nothing.
With one hand, Mo Qi had successfully moulded him, and he thought he broke away from the other person’s control. But now face to face, even if he possessed the upper hand, right now, he discovered it was just a laughable delusion- he was still too weak to withstand even a single blow.
After thinking and thinking, Mo Jing Yu could not help but laugh out loud. From the corners of his eyes, tears came seeping out, and the hand of orchid(-shaped) fingers wiped away the tears. This exceedingly charming appearance most certainly made people feel a bit dazzled, “Mo Qi, oh Mo Qi, didn’t you also bring up this neither human nor ghost kind of a plaything?”
He had originally thought the other person would sneer at him, but Mo Qi softened his gaze in a rare occasion, “No, I think in all of my lifetime, the greatest accomplishment perhaps was to bring up you.”
Mo family’s second child(son), the one who previously drew in countless people of the capital to glance back and peek through windows.
Mo Jing Yu thought, this was what the other person might have wanted to convey.
The result of this time’s peace talks naturally ended on a sour note. Nai Man Jin’s complexion too was unsightly due to the neglect from Mo Qi mentioning Mo Li and Mo Jing Yu. It was up until Mo Jing Yu went through the trouble of specially coaxing for a while, that it then turned much better.
At this time, the southern area was drizzling with light rain. The rainwater hit the roof eaves, sliding down with a drip drop sound. He look at the hazy mist of rain, and all of a sudden recalled that the the last time he saw Mo Qi had already been a little more than a month. Sahada and Zhou’s conflict was still in a stalemate, and the tribe’s soldiers, women and children had already been stationed inside the captured city.
According to the spy’s report, for the past few days, Mo Qi seemed to be in a strange state, hit with a sickness very abruptly[3]. The Imperial Concubine had sent the Imperial doctor over to make a diagnosis, but he was unable to see what kind of illness it was. The person grew more weak with every passing day, and according to the person’s description, the other person had already thinned out to the point of going out of shape, that one cannot see even one bit of life in him.
He looked at his own hand that was no different from before, and thought the drug he gave Mo Qi finally came into effect, and wondered when he too would become like that as well.
Was it that he would go before Mo Qi, or would he live longer compared to him. Mo Jing Yu himself did not know as well.
He looked on absent-mindedly, and changed his mind- he needed to more stronger and healthier than the other person. Perhaps when the other person dies, he himself can still drag out two or three more years. Only, he did not want the other person to die this quickly. With an opportunity to torment the other person, he would of course more-so hope that he could personally do it all the better.
He faintly let out a sigh. He too was unsure whether he would be favoured by the Heavens, and have a chance to stab the other person with his own hands.
After waving his hand as a signal for the other party to back off, Mo Jing Yu took a walk around the city. The troops that were stationed here at the time had already evacuated, only leaving some old, weak, women and children; thankfully because those cowardly[4] people withdrew, these citizens then did not oppose much and willingly surrendered to Sahada.
The present Sahada’s people and the former citizens of Zhou could be considered to be getting along on good terms, making Mo Jing Yu’s heart of shame and regret on the contrary be slightly better.
Even if he knew it was just a comfort on his own ego, Mo Jing Yu was willing to lie to himself, and not willingly face the blood shedding like rivers that was reality. Just like right now how he would not be willing to admit, that the person who had truly harmed Mo Li was him.
