As the sky began to brighten,格林 leaned against the wall and fell asleep. Without the low growls of the zombies and the occasional screams, the entire city center became very quiet.
格林 was awakened by a commotion at the door, and he quickly stood up and looked toward the church entrance.
"Hey, stand there! Don't move!"格林 tightly gripped the steel pipe in his hand and shouted at a dark figure outside the church.
However, the dark figure ignored格林 and continued to walk toward the church.
"Wake up! Someone's here!" Seeing the dark figure trying to climb over the low wall of the church,格林 urgently shouted inside the church.
格林's voice startled the people who were resting, and about a dozen people ran out of the church one after another. The leader, a white man, shone a powerful flashlight at the wall.
The dark figure was momentarily dazed by the strong light, fell off the wall, and lay motionless on the ground, unconscious.
"格林, you and the others go and bring him in." The elderly priest said and then walked back into the church.
格林 and the white man ran to the churchyard and carefully examined the newcomer. It was a young white man who had no backpack and no weapons. The leader checked his breathing, and he was still alive.
The two men exchanged a glance and carried the newcomer into the church. A young man looked around and quickly closed the church door.
"Has he been bitten or scratched?" The priest asked格林 as they carried the man in.
格林 carefully examined the man's body and replied, "No wounds on his body. It seems he just fainted."
After saying that,格林 looked up and glanced at the priest beside him.
"Should we take him in?"
"格林, those who seek the Lord are blessed. He chose to come here in his last moments of strength; we cannot refuse him."
The priest then turned to the leader and said, "Rodney, I'll leave this man to you. Take good care of him."
"OK." Rodney nodded and agreed.
The priest continued to rest, and格林 returned to the door to continue his night watch.
Rodney asked a woman nearby, "Jennifer, can you come and help? The others can go back to rest."
Rodney seemed to have some authority, as the woman nodded and agreed, and the others went back to sleep.
"It's him!?"
"Do you know him?"
Seeing Jennifer's surprised expression, it seemed they knew each other.
"Aston, come over here quickly!" Jennifer urgently called to the man who had closed the door.
It turned out that this couple was the young British couple who had received help from Li in Wonderland and later went to look for their child.
"What's wrong? Oh, isn't this the young man from Wonderland? What was his name again?" Aston came to the man and recognized him at a glance.
"Tommy!" Jennifer said his name for him.
"Right, Tommy. Is he the older brother or the younger one?"
Although Tommy and Little Tommy were not twins, they looked somewhat similar.
"This should be the younger one, Little Tommy, right?" Having only spent two days with them, Jennifer found it hard to tell which one was the older brother or the younger one.
"I can't remember either. How did he end up here? Wasn't he supposed to stay in Wonderland with Li?"
Seeing the couple chatting endlessly, Rodney had to urge them, "Guys, we can talk later. Can you help me move him inside first?"
The three of them then carried the unconscious man to a nearby rest room and laid him down. Apart from that, there wasn't much more they could do.
"Do you know him?" Rodney asked the Aston couple.
"Yes, Rodney. Remember the people I told you about from Wonderland? He is one of them, but I don't know why he's here." Aston answered honestly.
"Could something have happened to Li and the others?" Jennifer still had a good impression of Li and couldn't help but worry about them.
"Jennifer, everyone has their own destiny. I believe nothing will happen to Li." Aston hugged Jennifer and comforted her.
Both of them were very grateful for everything Li had done for them, but unfortunately, their luck wasn't that good. Not long after leaving the nightclub, they encountered a group of zombies. In a panic, they drove around aimlessly and eventually escaped to this church.
They now understood that finding their child, though simple in theory, was extremely difficult in practice. Occasionally, they regretted not staying in Wonderland. Li might have helped them search for their child.
Living in the church wasn't bad, but neither the priest nor the police officer Rodney had any intention of leaving the church, let alone helping them find their child.
The priest still had the final say in the church. Most people still believed in the new religion, and even though the world had changed, their faith hadn't. Some people in the church even believed this was the end of the world as described in the Bible, a punishment from God for people's sins.
Apart from the priest, the second-in-command in the church was Rodney. Rodney was a police officer who, like Aston and the others, had only arrived at the church yesterday. According to Rodney, when the disaster struck, he was investigating a murder case. He was then chased by zombies and escaped to the cathedral.
Like Tommy, the priest did not refuse anyone seeking help. In just two days, the number of people in the church had already reached nearly twenty. With more people, the demand for food naturally increased. Rodney, who had a gun, thus had a significant say.
"Aston, I remember you said that Li had guns, right? Two of them." Rodney said, pulling out a gun from his waist.
"Is it the same as this one?"
Aston stared at Rodney's gun for a while and hesitated, "It looks similar. Sorry, I don't have a clear memory of it."
"Hmm..." Rodney's face turned serious as he pondered.
"What's wrong, Rodney?" Aston asked, concerned by Rodney's expression.
"Nothing, Aston. It's just that he has two of my colleague's guns, and I need to find out how he got them." Rodney said, putting the gun back.
Seeing that Aston and Jennifer still didn't understand, Rodney continued, "What I mean is, in this world, no one would care about assaulting a police officer for a gun."
