System
A few messages appeared before his eyes, and a gentle light enveloped his body. Hyejin, who had been watching quietly, swallowed hard and asked.
“Have you already decided?”
“Yeah.”
“Aren’t you making a hasty decision?”
“I found the perfect one. There’s no reason to hesitate.”
He told Hyejin to wait a moment and opened the skill window. There, the acquired job skills and five new options were waiting for him to choose from.
“Great Burst?”
Sehyun muttered this as he drew Cheongwol. He moved to the center of the living room and swung it lightly to test it out.
A sharp sound sliced through the air. As he swung the sword a few more times, his expression stiffened.
He felt an indescribable power in the sword itself. However, when he tried to focus his mind, it disappeared like mist. More accurately, it seemed to change in a way that he could no longer detect.
After swinging the sword a few more times, he suddenly moved to the terrace.
“Where are you going?”
“Just a moment.”
He opened the window wide and aimed the sword at the artificial marble in a distant apartment complex. At the same time, a light flashed. The sword energy shot out at a speed that barely left a trail, piercing the target in an instant.
Though it was a faint light, Sehyun clearly saw a hole in the garden stone he had aimed at, even its depth. He twisted his lips.
He couldn’t understand it.
No matter how many more times he tried, it was the same. He felt it whether he was slicing the air or launching sword energy. He could sense that the power was roughly three times stronger than before. According to the skill description, it would likely be the same when using the sword for defense.
From a purely physical standpoint, it was certainly a good thing. But Sehyun couldn’t be entirely happy about it.
It was clearly the power contained in his sword, yet he couldn’t understand what it was or how it worked. This hurt his pride, which was built on his confidence in his sword skills.
The fact that he, who had once reached the pinnacle of the martial arts world, couldn’t understand the power contained in his own sword was frustrating.
If this continued, he would never understand this Eredos system, even if he died and came back to life. Could the creator of this system be a god?
Sehyun, who had fallen into deep contemplation for a moment, barely regained his senses when he heard Hyejin calling him repeatedly from behind.
“Han Sehyun!”
“Huh, huh? What’s wrong?”
“Why are you like that? Is something wrong?”
Hyejin, worried about her brother’s strange behavior, couldn’t help but smile.
“I was just… thinking about the nature of this system. There’s no problem.”
After a brief silence, he added,
“Why don’t you choose a job too?”
If he believed in this Eredos system, following its instructions might lead to something beneficial in the future. There was certainly a possibility.
However, if this system had malicious intent from the beginning, there would be no reason to toy with people like this. The power granted immediately upon choosing a job was something even Sehyun couldn’t understand. Or, should it even be called power?
Regardless, it was something transcendent that even Sehyun couldn’t grasp. Resisting it was impossible and meaningless.
Ironically, his intuition as a martial artist, a master who had dominated an era, was calling this an opportunity.
Whatever it was, whether an absolute force or the power of a god, it was acting as a tool without directly affecting people.
Then, he would use it. Sehyun decided to trust his intuition and judgment, which he had believed in all his life. If he started doubting and distrusting himself now, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.
“If you find something you like, don’t make a hasty decision. Let’s discuss it, okay?”
“Even though you chose whatever you wanted…”
Hyejin grumbled. She waved her hand in the air for a while, staring at it intently, then said,
“Elementalist? How about this?”
“What about the others?”
While Hyejin was choosing a job, Sehyun fell into deep thought. He planned to teach her martial arts. If so, wouldn’t it be better for her to choose the Sword Demon job?
Martial arts take a very long time to master. Even third-rate martial arts that can be found anywhere in the martial arts world take about ten years to master properly. If you only learn the form superficially, it becomes just a skill, not a martial art.
But if they used this job system?
Wouldn’t that be enough?
Internal energy and profound techniques could be learned gradually. If the system provided a bonus to weapon handling, learning the form of martial arts would be as effective as mastering them.
“Hmm…”
Sehyun, who was deep in thought, didn’t notice Hyejin nodding after examining all the jobs.
“I found something I like.”
“What is it?”
“Elementalist.”
“…What about the others? Like a warrior?”
“Wait, a warrior?”
Hyejin tilted her head and waved her hand in the air.
“There’s no such thing?”
“What?”
“There’s no warrior job.”
“No warrior?”
That’s impossible.
“Look carefully.”
“…I can’t find it no matter how I look.”
Seeing Sehyun’s serious expression, Hyejin carefully examined all the jobs from the beginning to the end. But no matter how she looked, she couldn’t find the job her brother mentioned.
“It’s really not there.”
Following Sehyun’s advice, she thoroughly checked all the detailed jobs and even reopened the window, but there was no warrior job.
“Then, tell me one by one what’s in your job window. Exclude the specialized and subdivided jobs for now.”
“Okay.”
Hyejin calmly started reading from the beginning.
After listening to all of them, Sehyun realized that there was indeed no warrior job.
A hypothesis formed in Sehyun’s mind.
To be honest, she has no talent for martial arts.
Of course, there are always exceptions, but from his perspective, Hyejin’s physical condition and personality were not suitable for martial arts. Even if she mastered a world-class martial art, her achievements would be slow, and she would be at a disadvantage in terms of strength and speed when facing a martial artist of the same level.
Could this system, perhaps, understand individual talents and dispositions? Could it be that it only shows the most suitable jobs for each user?
“Hmm…”
He couldn’t help but sigh in thought.
Most of the jobs Hyejin mentioned were non-physical, or if they did involve physical activity, they were of the type that intercepted enemies from a distance. Moreover, there were jobs that were far from combat, such as alchemists and magic engineers.
He explained his hypothesis to Hyejin without hiding it.
“It’s just a guess. If there’s no warrior job, what would you choose?”
“Um, I don’t know…”
“What about the Divine Healer job?”
“Should I read it again?”
Hyejin read the job description aloud.
“Divine Healer, uses the power of the heavens through their magic power. They can engage in combat to some extent, heal wounds, support and protect targets, and dispel diseases, harmful magic, and curses. They excel as a support role, like a priest in an online game.”
“From the description, it sounds like that. What do you think?”
Hyejin thought for a moment and said,
“It doesn’t seem bad. Healers are important not only in games but also in reality.”
That’s true. Even if her combat ability is lacking, in terms of utility, the Divine Healer would be far superior to the Elementalist she initially liked.
“Are there any specialized jobs that branch off from the Divine Healer?”
“I’ll read them.”
Hyejin moved her hand in the air again.
“That’s the end.”
Unlike the warrior, there seem to be only three types.
“If you had to choose from these, which one would be best?”
“Hmm… just the Divine Healer?”
“What about the Radiant Healer?”
“It has almost no offensive capabilities.”
“There must be some benefits.”
Just like the Sword Demon job he chose.
In exchange for not being able to wear armor, his offensive power is enhanced. The same could apply to the Radiant Healer. Even if it’s not three times, if it’s just two times, it would be incredible.
Since he planned to protect Hyejin, it might not be bad to go for a clear support role.
Originally, he wanted to let her choose the warrior job and give her the ability to protect herself, but since that was impossible, it might be better to go for a clear support role and for him to be even more cautious.
Hyejin also seemed to be thinking. Since Sehyun already had superhuman power, wouldn’t it be more efficient for her to support him? Even if she chose a combat job, it might be difficult for her to excel.
“What should we do?”
“First, is there anything that attracts you among the other jobs?”
“Yeah… there’s nothing better than the Divine Healer. At first, I was attracted to the Elementalist, but now it doesn’t seem as appealing.”
Sehyun, who had been thinking together with her, said,
“Let’s wait a moment before choosing a job. There’s something I want to do first.”
“Something to do?”
“Bulmosuseu, do you know what it is?”
“What is it?”
Sehyun smiled and answered,
“It’s a kind of physical improvement therapy, a very good one.”
