Chapter 61

With the monster panic and the battle with Baynard over, Leord finally returned to the mansion unscathed and took a moment to rest. He retreated to his room and began writing down the things he remembered from the recent events in his secret notebook.

The secret notebook is where Leord records all the knowledge he can remember from the real person's memories. Mostly, it contains only the strategy knowledge for erotic games. Additionally, it includes some incomplete knowledge of modern Japan.

It’s unclear whether Leord can make use of this knowledge, but it’s more convenient to have it organized in a notebook rather than stored in his mind.

"Hmm... I forgot about the resistance."

He was surprised that his magic didn’t work during the battle with Baynard, but it was nothing serious once he understood the reason—it was just a mistake on his part. Even if Leord had remembered the possibility of resistance, he still wouldn’t have been able to defeat Baynard.

After writing down everything he remembered in the secret notebook, Leord took a break and carefully hid the notebook.

Incidentally, the servants who clean Leord’s room already know about the secret notebook. However, they think it’s just a phase he’s going through and look at him with a warm, understanding gaze because the content is so outlandish.

Unaware of this, Leord headed to the dining room as usual. The smell of appetizing dishes wafted from the dining room.

The table was already set with dishes, and it seemed they were just waiting for Leord, the master, to arrive. The servants were momentarily surprised when Leord entered the dining room but quickly returned to their work. They were used to Leord coming to the dining room without being called.

"Where’s Gil?"

"The butler is in his office."

"Hmm, I see. Well, I’ll start eating first, then."

Leord sat down and reached for the food. As he savored each bite, Gilbert entered the dining room. Leord swallowed the food in his mouth and spoke to Gilbert.

"Is something wrong?"

"It’s terrible, young master!"

"Oh, for you to be so flustered is unusual. What happened?"

Leord laughed as if he had seen something rare, and as he took another bite of food, Gilbert said something shocking.

"It’s a summons from His Majesty the King!"

"Wha—!!"

Leord almost spat out the food in his mouth but managed to hold it in. He quickly washed it down with water and spoke.

"Is this some kind of mistake!?"

"I thought so too, but this came with a letter from your father."

Gilbert took out a letter with a broken seal and another with an unbroken seal from his pocket. Leord’s eyes widened when he saw the unbroken letter.

"T-The seal on that letter is the royal family’s!

This is definitely real if my father is involved!

W-What should I do!

Gil!

W-What should I do!?"

The letter Gilbert took out was undoubtedly from the king. The seal on the wax was unmistakably the one used by the royal family. Moreover, since Leord’s father, Beluga, was involved, there was no option for Leord to refuse. Refusing would mean a death sentence this time.

"Why am I being summoned!

Surely, it’s not a death sentence, right!?"

"Please calm down, young master. According to the letter from your father, it’s to commend your contributions to the defense of Zeato Fort."

"Huh? But I didn’t do anything that would warrant a summons from the king, did I?"

"You underestimate yourself, young master. You achieved significant results with your magic.

Moreover, you led the Zeato knights to end the monster panic without a single casualty."

"Is it really that impressive?

I did use magic to eliminate a large number of monsters, but the panic was ended by the knights led by Captain Baynard, right?"

"Ah... Listen carefully.

The knights led by Captain Baynard also achieved great results, but in Zeato, no one surpasses you, young master.

Of course, that includes me and Barbarotto."

"No, that’s not true. Barbarotto and Gil have taken down many stronger monsters than I have."

"That’s true. However, in a monster panic, quantity is more important than quality. In that sense, you are the best, young master."

"Hmm... Is that so?"

"Yes, it is. So, please prepare to go to the castle."

"Huh? Now?"

"Yes, now."

Leord’s eyes spun at the rapid developments. However, there was no time to waste. Since it was a summons from the king, he couldn’t refuse, so Leord hurried to get ready.

After preparing, Leord was pushed into a carriage and headed to the capital. Together with Gilbert and Shelia, it was their first return to the capital in six months. Leord had no idea what awaited him, but perhaps he might encounter the story of Fate 48.

However, Leord had no way of knowing such a thing at the moment.

Trembling with fear, Leord gazed out the window of the carriage at the passing scenery.

(I want to go home...)
