Chapter 12
Led by Benedict, the chairman of the Company, Noein entered the reception room of the building with only Yuri as his attendant and escort.
He sat down on an expensive looking sofa with Yuri standing behind him, and Benedict sat across the table in front of Noein.
The discussion began right after a young employee served tea to the two guests and left the room. It was the first business meeting of Noein’s life, even though it was a light transaction with a small number of products.
“Thank you for visiting our company today, His Excellency Arkvist.”
“I’d also like to thank you for being so courteous, despite the fact that we can only bring in furs and magical stones from monsters in the forest. Miles, Chairman of the Miles Trading Company.”
“By all means, please call me Benedict. If there is anything I can do for you in the future at the Company, please do not hesitate to contact me…”
Noein thinks to himself that Benedict is going to be a good friend of his.
If Noein were to be successful in his endeavour to become a pioneering and nobleman it would benefit the miles trading company if they were to keep good relations. If not, they’re free to get rid of him at any time. From Benedict’s point of view, the courtesies he shows are calculated and nothing but advantageous.
If he is lucky, he will be able to make a connection with a young nobleman who will become his golden goose, but he is not foolish enough to waste this opportunity just by declining to buy a few furs and magic stones.
Noein had anticipated this and approached this reputable business association.
“As for the items you bought this time, one Plump Deer fur, eight Gratney Rabbit furs, and each magic stone … How about 5800 Leburos for them?”
The amount offered was a little higher than Noein had expected.
“That is a pleasing number to hear. I would be very grateful as that amount is more than I expected.”
“I hope to be able to get to know you better in the future, and I have learned a lot from you this time.”
“If you would like to continue to be close to your Excellency, I will study this time.”
“Thank you very much. I look forward to working with you in the future, Mr. Benedict.”
Benedict said this while keeping a friendly smile on his face, and Noein replied with a smile as well.

“Ah, I was so nervous.”
“You’re lying. You still look like a goofball.”
Yuri couldn’t help but reply to Noein, who, despite his words, didn’t lose his usual easy-going expression.
“No, it’s true, okay? I’ve never had a proper business meeting before, and I was desperate not to be thought of as a stupid young nobleman. The head of the Miles Trading Company seems to be a decent merchant, so we’re going to be friends for a long time to come. You can’t fail even if it’s just a greeting.”
“You seemed to be able to talk without any problems. At least I didn’t think of you as an idiot.”
Yuri thinks that Noein is very intelligent for his age. The only problem is his twisted personality, probably due to the circumstances in which he was born and raised.
“That’s good to know. Now all that’s left is to negotiate the purchase of dried meat and food at Eliza’s store, and then we can go home.”

While Noein and the others were off to Retvik to do business, Matilda and Mai were at home at the residence, doing their chores.
“So, all that’s left to do is to wash the pots and dishes and then wash the clothes, right?”
“……Yes.”
Matilda doesn’t talk much on her own. When Mai calls out to her, she only responds in a few words.
“You still don’t trust us, do you? It’s true that you and us had a rough encounter, but we’re trying to be honest with you now, aren’t we?”
In fact, Mai and the other five had been doing pioneering work without a break every day for the past two weeks since they arrived at the settlement.
“No, it’s not that I don’t trust you. I certainly don’t think you people mean any harm anymore. It’s just that …”
“Just what?”
“…… I don’t know how to treat people other than Noein-sama, or what sort of conversation to have with them. For the past six years, I’ve only properly conversed with Noein-sama.”
As usual, Matilda’s expression didn’t change much, but she did look vaguely apologetic.
“…… pfft”
“Wh- why are you laughing?”
“No, I thought you still hated us, but it looks like you’re just shy. I just thought you had a cute side to your cold face.”
“Cu- Cute?”
Matilda replied to Mai with a confused look on her face.
“In other words, you’ve been alone with Noein-sama for so long that you’re completely dependent on him. You love Noein-sama so much that all you can see is Noein-sama, right?”
“…… I’m pretty sure that’s how it is, but.”
“Oh wow, your cheeks are so red.”
“That-!!!”
When Mai teased Matilda, who went completely red, with the intention to cheer her upset mood, she turned away in a panic.
“I think it’s perfectly fine to be dependent on Noein-sama as a form of love. …… That being said, I think you should gradually get used to talking to people other than Noein-sama.”
“…”
“If Noein-sama’s management of the territory goes well, there will be more and more people here in the future, you know? If you want to be useful beside Noein-sama, you should at least be able to talk to other people normally, don’t you think?”
“… Yes, I think you’re right.”
“If you want, you can think of me as a practice partner. Let’s get along with each other, okay?”
“Okay, I’ll give it a shot and challenge myself.”
Mai smiled and nodded at Matilda, who said ‘challenge’ as if she just made some kind of big decision.
