Chapter 2
Noein had a twisted personality. There are two possible reasons for this.
The first is his lack of experience in communication.
He has never known the love of his parents, and the only people he talks to are the servants of the Count family. Even the servants were polite on the surface, but behind his back they despised him as a ‘bastard’s child’. Noein knew of this early on.
Since he was isolated in a detached room at the age of nine, he has only spoken to Matilda, the slave who was given to him as his personal caretaker. It would be difficult for him to grow up to be a decent person.
The other reason is blood.
Noein is the son of an anxious, nervous father and a mother who used him to become a concubine and died in a life of luxury. It is quite convincing to say that he was born with a twisted personality.
Despite his upbringing and innate temperament, Noein also possessed human affection and kindness as a matter of course. However, he had only ever shown these feelings to Matilda, the only person who understood him.
So, in his own way, he intends to run his estate diligently and be kind to his people. Unlike his father, who had been oppressive in the Count’s territory.
“But now, the Arkvist territory is just a forest. There are no people to care for, not even a house for us to live in. It’s gonna be fun, Matilda.”
“Yes, Noein-sama”
Noein sat down, looking exhausted from the treacherous journey through the forest, and said to his devoted slave, who carried a leather bag of water to his mouth.
It had been less than half an hour since they entered the forest. In terms of distance, he had probably walked less than a kilometer, but it was a tough journey for Noein, who had spent his entire life rarely leaving the Count’s house.
On the other hand, Matilda, who is a beastman, has innate physical strength, so this level of movement does not cause her much fatigue.
“… Noein-sama, If you like, should I carry Noein-sama on my back?”
“Thank you Matilda, but I’ll walk on my own feet, this is my territory, you know.”
Noein feels he would be disqualified as a lord if he was carried by his slave on the first day of entering his territory.
Not that anyone but Matilda was watching him, but Noein stood up on his feet again with such self-satisfied determination in his heart.

Then they let the golem lead them through the forest again, and not long after – at least not before Noein collapsed from exhaustion – the group reached the river.
The river, flowing from northwest to southeast through the forest, was not large, but it was abundant and clear enough to be used as a water source.
“Noein-sama, shall we set up our base by this river?”
“If we go too close to the river, it will be dangerous in case of rain. Let’s find a place north of here where we can explore more easily.”
“I see, it’s a wonderful decision. As expected from Noein-sama.”
No matter what he said, the slave affirmed him with delusional confidence, and Noein took control of the golem and set a course towards north.
Then, he stopped a short distance from the river. There was a place that was a little more open than the others.
“I like it here. This will be the first settlement of my Arkvist territory.”
Noein declares this in the forest, where there is only the lord himself, his slave and the mute golems.

Even though he had entered the forest in the morning and it was not even noon yet, Noein’s poor legs and feet were already screaming.
I would really like to check out the area around this place, but it will be difficult to move any further today.
If that’s the case, I’ll just have to do what I can while I’m here
“Noein-sama. I’m sure you’re tired, so let me brew you some tea.”
“Oh, thank you. I’m sorry that my lack of strength caused me to rest so soon, Matilda.”
“You don’t need to apologize, Noein-sama. I will only follow you.”
Matilda says the words as skilful and a loyal servant, and prepares to make a pot of tea with her rabbit ears flicking from her head.
She transferred water from the leather bag into an iron pot and stuck a stick-shaped tool with a blue-purple magic stone on it.
When the magic stone part emits a blue light. Steam rose from the pot of lukewarm water until now, and the sound of water boiling was heard.
Matilda used the “fire/ boiling” magic tool to bring the water to a boil and then added tea leaves that come from south of the kingdom, and poured it out into two wooden cups as the aroma and color of the tea came out.
“Here you are, Noein-sama”
“Thank you. It smells wonderful, the tea that Matilda brews is always delicious.”
” I am honored by your compliment.”
“I’m sure you’re happy to hear it.”
Noein smiled ,a facial expression that he never showed to other people, and Matilda wore an embarrassed expression, one that she never shows to other people.
The month was March and the air was still a bit chilly, as this was the northern part of the kingdom.
Noein was gazed at the view in front of him as he warmed himself with a cup of fragrant tea that soothed his spirit, which had been exhausted by the strenuous travel.
Matilda, sipping on her own cup, sat beside him, watching the same scenery as her master, at the same time being aware of her surroundings with her highly sensitive ears perked up. Afterall, they are in the middle of a forest with monsters.
The two golems removed fallen tree branches and stones from the clearing that Noein had designated as his residence, pulled out conspicuous weeds, and stomped around the area to level the uneven ground.
Meanwhile we had finished our tea and rest, the golems had made a small but level area.
” We have enough room to spread out our tents and cultivate some land.”
The next step was to set up the tent that would be our home for the time being.
Normally, this would require several people to do the heavy work, but with the golem, it was no trouble at all.
With the stanchions erected, the skeleton assembled, and the thick curtains put up, a tent large enough for Noein and Matilda to sleep comfortably was set up.
・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・
“Am I like a tent-dwelling lord? Interesting. “
“Noein-sama is a wonderful man. This is just the beginning. Eventually, this will be a city, and Noein-sama will be living in a magnificent mansion.”
“That’s right. We need to do that as soon as we can. …… I’m going to give you a hard time, Matilda.”
“It is no problem. I’ll be right here by Noein-sama’s side, where I belong.”
We exchanged words as we laid out the furs in the completed tent, moved the clothing and daily necessities from the wagon, and prepared the tent for living.
After we finished moving our belongings, we tied strings to the surrounding trees and hung some iron rods from them.
This way, even if a monster approached, we would be able to notice it by sound. Matilda, who has a good ear and is sensitive to signs, will not miss a thing
“Now, what shall we do tomorrow?”
There is nothing else to do in this territory.
We’ll make a field. Expand the plains. Explore the surroundings. Even then there are too many things to do.
If you have too many options, you’ll never get anything done.
“Well, the first thing to do is to get rid of today’s fatigue. A good night’s rest will help to clear my head.”
It was almost evening. After taking a bite of bread and dried meat that he had bought in the town of Viscount Konitz, where he had left this morning, and drinking the tea that Matilda had made for him, Noein went into his tent to get some sleep.
“Come on, Matilda”
“Yes, Noein-sama”
Matilda was a house slave who took care of Noein’s personal needs, a guard slave who used her physical abilities to protect Noein, and a pet slave who healed Noein’s body and soul.
When Noein called out to Matilda in a gentle voice, Matilda cuddled up beside him with a smile on her face.
