"Regardless of what you catch, it's good enough to catch something. Do you still expect to catch a few?" Qian Feiyang taunted.
After exchanging a few jibes, the three of them settled down to fish.
Young people in their twenties, even when on vacation, usually enjoy the scenery, take photos, and discover interesting things to show off on social media. Few are willing to fish, so some people categorize fishing as a 'game for middle-aged and elderly people.'
Wu Ji had been taken fishing by his father since he was young and had developed a bit of a liking for it. However, he always caught nothing, failing repeatedly and fighting on despite repeated failures.
Feng Yi didn't have this hobby or the time. He had part-time jobs and a studio, and the few times he went fishing with them were just to relax, treating it as a break from his busy work. His goal wasn't to fish but to rest.
This time was no different, so Feng Yi's mindset was relatively calm.
Wu Ji, on the other hand, was determined to redeem himself from his previous failures.
However, half an hour passed.
There was no movement at all.
The people who had been fishing nearby also left, frustrated by their lack of success, hoping to change their luck by moving to a different spot. After all, the fishing area was so large.
Qian Feiyang couldn't keep his cool anymore and took out his phone to search for a place nearby with fewer people and better scenery, planning to take photos later.
Feng Yi was lost in thought, still pondering what the old butler had said. What small changes were there? Were they noticeable?
Wu Ji, on the other hand, waited and waited, even flipping through the fishing guide his father had written for him. The timing, location, bait, and everything else were all correct. He tried N different positions and methods, but the fish just wouldn't bite!
In the distance, there was a commotion.
Wu Ji looked over.
It was a group of elderly men, laughing loudly, their pride and joy evident even from a distance.
"Steady! Hold it steady!"
"Okay!"
"Where's the net? Get it, get it, don't let it get away!"
"Old age doesn't diminish our strength, just like in the old days!"
"Ahahaha, too kind, too kind!"
Compared to their lively scene, their side was much quieter. It felt like they had come to a fake fishing area.
Wu Ji looked at his companions.
One had half-closed eyes, sitting motionless like an old monk in deep meditation.
The other was scrolling through his phone, laughing to himself.
Unable to hold back, Wu Ji approached Feng Yi and Qian Feiyang and said, "Look at that group of old men, they're already on a streak. We haven't had any bites here for a long time. It must be that the fish here have already been caught. Should we try a different spot?"
"You can try over there, I'll stay here," Feng Yi said.
He had indeed been in a daze, his recent sensory perception being interfered with and not working. The quiet here was suitable for thinking.
Qian Feiyang yawned, "No, I'm not used to this dull activity. I'll keep scrolling through my phone; it's more fun."
Wu Ji, feeling stifled, went to watch how others were catching fish one after another, then came back to try again.
Before long, the two remaining fishermen nearby got up and moved to a more lively area.
As they left, they grumbled, "We used to complain about the small fish, but now we can't even catch small ones!"
"What can we do if there are no fish no matter what we try?"
"It's not a matter of skill; there just aren't any fish! I suspect those old men have used some trick to attract all the fish over there!"
Once those two were far away, only the three of them remained in that area.
Feng Yi suggested to Wu Ji, "You should try a different spot."
Wu Ji was unwilling, "No! I have to catch one here! I just talked to Uncle Liu, and he said he caught a big one right here! That little old man even mocked me, telling me not to waste my time!"
After waiting a bit longer, Wu Ji's patience ran out, and he felt a surge of frustration, his pent-up energy needing an outlet.
He scrolled through the local news on his phone and saw a photo of a wild rabbit someone had taken while playing.
Wu Ji sneered, "Even 'rabbit talk,' do grown men need to act cute?"
Finding a beautiful flower, Wu Ji took photos from three different angles and sent them to his girlfriend, who was on a business trip out of town: [Shy] Sending you a little flower~]
Then he felt that one flower was too meager and not grand enough. Wu Ji got up and looked around. Not far from Feng Yi's right side, there was a cluster of flowers in full bloom, so he walked over.
"Truly, the ecological resort's farm is impressive; the grass is so lush. They say it's regularly trimmed, but it looks like it hasn't been cut for a long time."
As he spoke, he pushed aside the weeds and studied how to take a more poetic photo.
This study led to a discovery.
The brown and green pattern in the dense grass wasn't very noticeable, but Wu Ji's entire body seemed to activate a radar, sending out signals of fear!
In the quiet, desolate area, a shrill chicken-like cry erupted:
"There's a snake!!!"
Wu Ji was so startled that his soul almost left his body. His brain told him to run, but his legs wouldn't move, standing there in shock. It wasn't until he was pulled away by a strong force.
When he caught his breath and looked again, Feng Yi was standing there, holding the snake with one hand.
Wu Ji's face turned pale, his mouth opening and closing without a sound, his teeth chattering.
Meanwhile, Qian Feiyang, who had been looking at the distant scenery, planning where to find material for a set of nature photos, was so startled by Wu Ji's chicken-like cry that he threw his fishing rod into the water without even trying to retrieve it. Seeing the situation, he scrambled over.
Qian Feiyang, not daring to get close, gestured to Feng Yi, "Do you need to use both hands?"
He looked at the snake's triangular head, deeply concerned for Feng Yi's hand.
One bite and his hand would be ruined, right?
Even though he didn't know much about snakes, the head shape clearly indicated a venomous one!
Such a large snake, over two meters long, would be hard to handle even with both hands!
Feng Yi, holding the snake with one hand, was stable for the moment, but it was nerve-wracking, fearing the snake might break free and bite.
"Be careful not to get tangled up!" Qian Feiyang looked at the snake's tail, thinking about how to help.
He also noticed that the tip of the snake's tail was white.
Beside him, Wu Ji, having finally regained his composure, his teeth chattering, dared not look at the snake's large, spatula-like head, "Hold it steady! Hold it steady! I'll look for a fork or something..."
"Right, we need to call the police! I'll call the police right away!" Wu Ji's trembling hands almost dropped his phone.
Feng Yi's face was stiff; he himself didn't know how he had caught the snake in that instant. It was like a reflex or an instinct.
Of course, he was also worried about holding it with one hand, but after that moment, he didn't know how to use his other hand.
So, not knowing what to do, he could only maintain the status quo, keeping the same grip and position with one hand, holding the snake motionless.
He gestured with his other hand for Wu Ji and Qian Feiyang to stay back, as the snake looked very dangerous.
Other people in the fishing area had heard the commotion and were coming over.
Taking a deep breath, Feng Yi looked at Wu Ji, who was babbling and shaking as he called the police, and turned to Qian Feiyang, "Quick, bring my bag over!"
Qian Feiyang, not caring about anything else, ran over and picked up Feng Yi's large backpack, almost falling due to his haste.
"Do you have any tools? Snake hooks, gloves, that sort of thing?" Qian Feiyang said, opening the backpack to search for tools.
Feng Yi: "Quick! Hand me my sunglasses!"
Qian Feiyang: ???
What the heck?
