Summer Qi rubbed his eyes vigorously and then looked in the direction of the sound. Sure enough, he saw a middle-aged man walking towards him with an air of authority, even though his old face was somewhat blurred in the darkness.
However, at this critical moment, seeing him, this potential savior who could help him escape, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to describe him as a god descending from heaven, let alone as someone exuding authority.
"You..."
Summer Qi pointed at the middle-aged man approaching him, and at that moment, it felt as if something was stuck in his throat, almost preventing him from making any sound.
It wasn't until the middle-aged man was right beside him that Summer Qi managed to force out a question with great effort:
"You... how did you end up here?"
"Just passing by, and decided to kill it." The middle-aged man cracked his knuckles, looking as if he was about to unleash his fury.
Summer Qi had never thought that a man's voice could sound so beautiful. The middle-aged man's words, "Just passing by, and decided to kill it," were simply amazing! Even though he didn't mention saving him.
However, whether he came to save him intentionally or not didn't matter. What mattered was that he could eliminate the evil ghost threatening them. Once the ghost was gone, he and Wang Yazhi would naturally be safe.
"Um... looks like I was right, you wouldn't just stand by and watch me die here."
When Summer Qi said this, he was actually very reluctant, but he still forced himself to flatter the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man, however, didn't seem to care, or rather, he completely ignored Summer Qi.
Summer Qi wanted to say more, as he still needed the middle-aged man to save his life. But before he could speak again, the middle-aged man started to mumble and gesture.
"Four-sided array, East, West, South, North, lock the sky, trap the earth..."
The middle-aged man waved his hand, and four small sticks, like matchsticks, appeared in his hand. He then threw the sticks and shouted:
"Array formed! Seal!"
The four thin matchsticks, as they flew towards the nearby evil ghost, instantly transformed into four burning pillars, landing with a "thud" and forming a square cage of fire, completely sealing the ghost inside.
The middle-aged man's display deeply impressed Summer Qi. At that moment, he felt that the middle-aged man was simply a god, incredibly amazing. The image of the middle-aged man as a scoundrel in his mind was completely destroyed, replaced by that of an incredibly powerful figure.
"R-Really amazing!"
Summer Qi couldn't help but exclaim, but when he looked at the middle-aged man, he saw that his expression was still tense, showing no signs of relaxation, as if... it was far from over.
Seeing the middle-aged man's alert expression, Summer Qi's heart, which had just relaxed a bit, was once again tightly gripped.
At the same time, the middle-aged man spoke again:
"I was still in doubt earlier, wondering why so many new employees had died. I thought it was because the new employees were of poor quality recently, but now I understand what's really going on.
The thing causing trouble here should have been taken care of by you, right?"
Although Summer Qi didn't understand what the middle-aged man was saying to the ghost, and he didn't know how many new employees like him had been killed, from the middle-aged man's anger, it must have been a significant number. Otherwise, he wouldn't have come here personally.
The only one speaking was the middle-aged man, while the evil ghost, trapped by the four burning pillars, remained inside like a venomous snake, staring at them coldly.
It was unclear whether the ghost didn't want to respond or didn't understand what he was saying.
"If you don't want to die, find a place to hide quickly!"
The middle-aged man finally glanced at Summer Qi, but before he could react, the middle-aged man had already rushed towards the fire cage trapping the evil ghost.
Summer Qi stared blankly at the middle-aged man disappearing into the fire cage. He couldn't help at all, so he might as well escape quickly to avoid becoming a burden to the middle-aged man.
"You must win!"
He silently prayed for the middle-aged man and then, using the light from the fire, fled into a nearby stairwell without looking back.
He kept running until he reached the fifth floor, where he stopped to catch his breath. During this time, he suddenly thought of Wang Yazhi.
Earlier, when the middle-aged man and the evil ghost made such a commotion, Wang Yazhi didn't come out, so she must have escaped to a higher floor like him, though he didn't know which one.
Summer Qi thought about trying to find her on the nearby floors, but after some consideration, he decided against it.
He remembered the middle-aged man's warning to find a place to hide. Although it sounded like useless advice, if the middle-aged man had been 100% confident in defeating the evil ghost or if the ghost was nothing to him, would he have been so serious?
Would he have bothered to tell him to find a place to hide?
The answer was clearly no.
Because of this, he felt that the danger hadn't disappeared just because the middle-aged man had arrived; it was still very dangerous here.
"Whatever, I can barely hold on myself, why worry about others!"
Having made up his mind, Summer Qi, using the brief light from a lighter (he had lost his flashlight earlier), hid in a row of bookshelves.
He didn't choose to hide in a rest room or a toilet because these places were enclosed, and if discovered, it would be a dead end. Here, at least, there was a slim chance of escape.
Hugging his knees and curling into a ball, Summer Qi breathed quietly in the darkness.
It had to be said that the middle-aged man's impact on him hadn't completely faded, and this confirmed some of his earlier suspicions.
The middle-aged man was indeed not an ordinary person, which indirectly indicated that the company was also not ordinary. Clearly, there were many secrets hidden here, unknown to him and enough to shock him.
He suddenly had a bold guess: perhaps the middle-aged man had once been like him, a new employee struggling during the probationary period...
"Will I have such a glorious day?"
Summer Qi felt a faint sense of hope for this "job."
Meanwhile, on the fourth floor.
In the darkness, Wang Yazhi's low sobs echoed continuously.
Her tears were almost gone, but the fear in her heart hadn't dissipated at all.
Wang Yazhi was completely lost in the darkness. This could be the third floor, or the fourth floor... perhaps in a bathroom, or some corner...
She had never felt such a strong desire to have someone by her side.
In the short twenty minutes since she separated from Summer Qi, she thought of many people who loved and cared for her.
Her parents, relatives, friends, and even... Summer Qi, whom she had just met.
Her thoughts couldn't stop, because as soon as they did, her mind was filled with the image of Feng Wei's hanging corpse!
Wang Yazhi now deeply regretted leaving Summer Qi to escape alone, which led to her getting lost in the darkness.
She wanted to find Summer Qi, but it was so dark, and she had no means of lighting her way. Besides... she was afraid of being discovered by the ghost.
Wang Yazhi had managed to escape here thanks to the shock of Feng Wei's corpse. Now that her emotions had somewhat recovered, she didn't dare move around anymore.
However, just as Wang Yazhi decided to stay there until dawn, she heard a series of dragging sounds.
It sounded like someone was dragging a... corpse!
Slowly approaching her position!
Wang Yazhi's heart began to race, but because it was so dark, she couldn't tell what was approaching her.
Was it Summer Qi, whom she was looking for, or... the terrifying ghost!
In any case, it was slowly approaching her.
