Tong Qiu tried to be reserved in front of Huo Zhixing. When the other asked about marriage, he blushed.

He was still feeling bashful, but the taxi driver was getting impatient, “Are we still leaving? If you wish to talk more, why don’t you step out of the car?”

The taxi driver’s words made Tong Qui even more embarrassed, and he quickly nodded to Huo Zhixing, “Okay.”

Then he closed the door and told the driver, “I’m sorry, let’s go.”

The taxi drove off, leaving Huo Zhixing to stare at the car’s retreating back.

He stood there stunned and took a long time before he realized Tong Qiu had agreed to his proposal.

He quickly took out his phone and sent a message to Tong Qiu: Do you agree?

Tong Qiu sat inside the car fanning his hot face with his hands when his phone suddenly vibrated and startled him.

He took out his phone and saw it was a message from Huo Zhixing.

He smiled and nodded. After he did, he realized no one could see it.

Tong Qiu replied: Do you regret asking?

Then he stared at his phone until he received the other’s reply: It’s my great honor.

It was quite a marvel feeling. Tong Qiu never expected he would be discussing marriage with someone he had only known in a few months – he never even thought that he would get married at all.

No, he thought about it when he was younger. When he was in his twenties, he had a blind yearning for love and marriage, but once he reached his thirties he stopped asking nor expecting anything. He left it all to fate. As a result, it was such a coincidence that he met someone suitable.

He called Chu Yao who was his childhood friend, “Sister, I’m going to marry first.”

“… Huh?” Chu Yao worked overtime last night, slept for the entire day, and had just woken up. She asked, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“Really, I answered him.”

Chu Yao was silent for a moment and asked, “Who did you answer?”

Tong Qiu replied with a “hmph” and said angrily, “You’ve been working overtime until your brain is empty, right? Haven’t I told you that I met a policeman on a blind date and it went very well?”

“Brother, how long have you known each other?”

“More than three months.”

“Marriage after three months?” Chu Yao woke up, “Young people these days are very aggressive!”

“When love comes, it can’t be stopped.” Tong Qiu said proudly, “Prepare red envelopes. I want big ones. You can prepare them for me.”

Chu Yao laid back on the bed and said with emotion, “Life really is wonderful. How can this person say he’ll marry once he wants to get married! After you marry, can you still go out to have a drink with me in the middle of the night?”

“I don’t drink with you every day in the past.” Tong Qiu said, “Let me inform you, in front of Officer Huo I’m mature and dignified. Don’t you dare expose me when you meet?”

“… What do you mean?”

“Anyway, you have to protect my image.”

Chu Yao understood, “Come on, you two-faced shameless person.”

At the moment, Tong Qiu was in a good mood and refused to bicker with her, “Okay, I’ve already informed you, hurry to kneel and give me wedding blessings.”

“Give birth to a son early, you two-faced man.” Chu Yao said, “Be careful that your family’s Officer Huo won’t figure out your true nature and turns around to divorce you.”

“Pei!” Tong Qiu “pei”-ed several times, “Don’t say anything unlucky. Hang up now, our friendship has come to an end.”

Their friendship has ended, but the two chatted until Tong Qiu got out of the car.

“I’m at the door. How do you think my mother would react if she knew about it?”

“Beat the gongs and drums and immediately send you off to Officer Huo’s bed.”

Tong Qiu smiled happily as his brain immediately conjured an image of him lying in bed next to Huo Zhixing who was in a police uniform. The picture was so simulating that he was going to have a nosebleed.

Tong Qiu agreed to Huo Zhixing’s proposal, and their marriage was immediately put on the agenda.

The two parents met and chatted happily that neither Tong Qiu nor Huo Zhixing could get a word in.

Originally, Tong Qiu thought that this matter would be better discussed after the New Year. But in the end, Mother Huo and Mother Tong thought that the day before the new year was an auspicious day and immediately decided that’s when they would marry.

Tong Qiu glanced at the date, there was still a month before the Spring Festival.

“So suddenly?” Tong Qiu was stupefied.

Mother Tong said, “I’ve calculated it with your Aunt Huo. Next Tuesday is the best day in the past six months, and it’s a suitable day for new people to get a certificate.”

Tong Qiu couldn’t stand the superstitions of these elders. He felt that getting the certificate and having the wedding would be fine whenever was convenient. No need to calculate the day, after all, it depends on the people involved how they live their days. Having to calculate a “good day” wouldn’t necessarily mean that you can live a good life.

However, he was too lazy to talk to his elders about these things. He couldn’t persuade them anyways.

Huo Zhixing patted the back of his hand to appease him and whispered, “If you think this is all too fast, I can discuss it with my mother when we go back.”

Tong Qiu stopped him, “No, they are all enjoying this, let’s not spoil their fun. Anyway, it’s something that has to be done sooner or later so it doesn’t matter.”

Huo Zhixing smiled and whispered, “Thank you.”

Tong Qiu thought: Brother, what are you thanking me for? We’re going to get married, why are you being too polite?

Although he was complaining about it in his heart, on the surface Tong Qiu still smiled appropriately and replied, “No need.”

In this way, as soon as their parents met, the date for when to get the certificate has been decided. Mother Huo said, “As for the wedding, you two can discuss it by yourselves.”

A long time ago, when Tong Qiu was young, he thought that he would only get married once, so he had to do it on a grand and spectacular scale. Later, he found out that he was gay, and at that time same-sex marriage was not legal, so he figured that he wouldn’t be able to marry in this life and harbored no such expectations.

Now, it was a good time to make up for it. It’s already legal and he has a partner. He was ready to get married but didn’t have any ideas about the ceremony.

Tong Qiu and Huo Zhixing discussed it and decided to make it simple.

Both of them were in their thirties, and they didn’t have the enthusiasm of people in their twenties. Moreover, they were busy with their work. It would be too troublesome and tiring if they made a huge fanfare out of it.

The two mothers were a little disappointed. They had already thought about what to say at their sons’ wedding, but it turned out the children didn’t want to hold a ceremony for now.

“Okay, okay, do whatever you like.” Mother Tong waved her hands, “Anyways, you better not regret it in the future.”

When he got home that night, before going to bed Tong Qiu received a message from Huo Zhixing. The other man was on duty at the police station and it was rare that he had nothing to do that night other than to sit around in the office.

Huo Zhixing asked him: You really don’t want to do it? If you want, we can have a ceremony.

Tong Qiu replied to him: There really is no need, it’s too troublesome. We’ll just invite our close friends then have dinner together. Besides, as a public official, it’s better to keep a low profile.

Huo Zhixing looked at the message from Tong Qiu and smiled: Tong-laoshi is really caring.

Tong Qiu: Yes, there are still more things that are waiting for you to discover.

On January 23, Tong Qiu and Huo Zhixing went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get their marriage certificate. Since same-sex marriage was made legal a year ago, more and more same-sex couples have registered their marriage.

When they arrived, Tong Qiu met several pairs. Everyone walked opposite of each other, smiling and sending blessings.

He really liked this feeling. It seemed like the world was full of love.

Two people come to register and take pictures.

Huo Zhixing temporarily left the police station and was only able to grab a white shirt. Tong Qiu was no better than him and left as soon as he finished his class. He even believed that his shirt was full of chalk dust.

Later, when they got divorced, Tong Qiu saw this picture again and saw two people who were a little unkempt leaning against each other and smiling. It looked particularly sweet.

Tong Qiu felt a trace of disbelief as he held onto his red marriage certificate.

Huo Zhixing smiled, “Okay, this time we are both married young men.”

They walked outside by side, Tong Qiu’s eyes never leaving their wedding photo, “Hey, I don’t look good here. There is some hair sticking out from the side.”

Huo Zhixing leaned forward to take a look, smiled, and pulled him closer by the shoulders, “I like it very much, it’s cute.”

Tong Qiu looked at him. They were standing by the door, and when he turned his head, the sun pierced his eyes.

He squinted and Huo Zhixing raised a hand to block the sunlight for him.

Tong Qiu smiled, “Officer Huo is quite considerate.”

“It’s nothing.” Huo Zhixing replied. “Should we go and celebrate?”

“Huh?”

“After receiving a marriage certificate, we are already considered married. It would be a shame not to celebrate this happy day.”

Tong Qiu thought he made sense and nodded, “Okay, let’s eat hot pot?”

“Yes, but we still need to do one more thing before we go for hot pot.”

Tong Qiu looked at Huo Zhixing suspiciously. The other man smiled widely that sunlight spilled from the corner of his eyelids. It looked particularly warm in winter.

“What?” Tong Qiu thought there was something wrong at the precinct.

In the end, Huo Zhixing said, “We are now married. Can I kiss you?”

When Huo Zhixing asked him this, Tong Qiu’s heart “thumped” and his face reddened in an instant.

Tong Qiu has never been a reserved person. It’s been a while since he met Huo Zhixing, and he couldn’t count how many times he had hidden under his quilt and fantasized about the other doing shady things to him.

However, they have always maintained some sort of distance – rarely holding hands, let alone kiss.

They were now a married couple, and yet they were still pretending to be pure and innocent.

Tong Qiu smiled, “Right here? But there are a lot of people watching.”

“Yes, right here.” Huo Zhixing suddenly hugged Tong Qiu’s waist, slightly lowered his head, and covered the other’s lips.

Right here, at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, both of them held small red notebooks in their hands and gave each other their relationship’s first kiss under the winter sun.

“In the future, I would trouble Tong-laoshi to take care of me.”

“No problem.”

The author has something to say:

Bosses, this story would end here. There are no other episodes for the time being. I saw someone say they want to read about the honeymoon – this crooked sticky thing can’t be written now, so let’s end it like this.

Nell’s Corner:

Finally done! Terribly sorry for leaving you guys hanging for a whole month. I don’t know if any of you are on discord but for those that aren’t unfortunately my place was one of the places affected by the typhoon that hit the Philippines last december. For a whole month we didn’t have any electricity and internet. It was only recently that the internet has returned to our place so I could finally finish this chapter (and story!)

To everyone who stayed with me, thank you so much for your infinite patience! I’m so proud about this achievement because honestly this is the first project that I actually finished lmao. I’m the type of person that gets easily bored (ADHD lmao) so the fact that I was able to finish this is a huge thing ahhaha!

Once again, thank you so much and hope to see you in my next project!
