Chapter 37: The Depressed Elf Girl

6 min read1,570 words

At this moment, the morning sun had already risen into the sky, illuminating the entire city of Orario.

The atmosphere inside the House of Twilight was also gradually warming up, with members of the group rushing about from place to place, making it no longer as desolate as it was at the beginning.

Rig emerged from the divine chamber, encountering curious gazes from many senior members of the Familia along the way.

Clearly, news of Rig's battle on the 6th floor had gradually spread.

However, Rig paid no attention to these gazes and instead thought about what Loki had said to him when he left the divine chamber.

"Raphi seems to be a bit stuck in a rut. Do you want to go see her?"

The sudden farewell words from the god left Rig momentarily stunned.

Loki also had a wry smile on his face.

"Ever since she came back yesterday, that girl has been in a state of constant gloom, visibly depressed. Livilia mentioned it to me, saying it would be best if you, as the one involved, talked to her."

After saying this, Loki turned to go back to sleep, leaving Rig with no choice but to leave.

Thinking about the elf girl, Rig pondered for a moment and finally decided to go see her.

But Rig didn't know how to find Raphi.

As the main base of Loki's Familia, the House of Twilight is a collection of many high-rise towers. Besides the central tower, which is the thickest and tallest, there are seven spires surrounding it.

These spires, which vary in height and shape, are connected at the lower half, while the central tower stands independently in the middle, surrounded by a circular courtyard. The upper half has stone-built skywalks extending to other towers, allowing people to move between the spires. Facilities such as the library and the large dining hall are scattered throughout the towers, with no particular order.

However, apart from the central tower, the seven spires are usually divided into three for males and four for females.

In other words, the living areas for males and females are separate.

If Rig wanted to find Raphi, the first place to look would naturally be her room.

This meant that Rig would have to enter the living area of the female members of the Familia, which made him feel somewhat uncomfortable, as if he were about to enter a girls' dormitory.

"Let me look for her in the public areas first."

Rig made this decision tentatively.

However, before Rig could start looking, he ran into some of the Familia's officers on the way.

"Hey, isn't that the incredibly strong new member?"

"Indeed."

The Amazonian twin sisters, who looked like mirror images of each other, with only their body types and hairstyles differing, appeared on the path, coincidentally meeting Rig.

"Miss Theona, Miss Theone."

Rig stopped and bowed to the two officers of the Familia.

"No need to be so formal, new member." Theona smiled innocently and said, "Just call me Theona."

"Call me Theone too." Theone glanced at Rig, her smile somewhat profound. "The Familia leader values you highly, probably thinking you'll soon join the ranks of the officers. Since that's the case, you can just call us by our names."

As officers of Loki's Familia and top-tier adventurers in the Labyrinth City, Theona and Theone are highly respected even within their own Familia.

This is the status of being a top-tier adventurer and the treatment they deserve as Familia officers.

So, the two weren't uncomfortable with the respectful attitude of others, but it was clear that this didn't apply to Rig.

Just thinking about the skill called "Fool's Obsession," the two felt it was best not to treat Rig like an ordinary new member.

"What are you doing?" Theona tilted her head and asked, "Planning to go to the Labyrinth?"

"Rumor has it you just went through an adventure and were still in bed yesterday." Theone sighed, "Getting out of bed today and planning to dive into the Labyrinth again, you're really pushing yourself. That's putting a lot of pressure on us."

The sisters had been diving into the Labyrinth frequently due to Rig's influence, so this wasn't a deliberate jab at him.

Rig could see their concern and shook his head. "I don't plan to go to the Labyrinth today. I'm just looking for Raphi."

"Raphi?"

Theona seemed surprised by the mention of the elf girl's name.

"Come to think of it, you two are on the same team, right?"

Theone seemed to understand.

"Yes." Rig nodded. "Do you know where Raphi is?"

It seemed he had asked the right people.

"I saw her heading to the reception room just now." Theona told Rig, then added, puzzled, "But she looked a bit down. Is she hungry?"

"Are you saying everyone is like you, demanding breakfast as soon as they wake up?" Theone retorted, "Besides, if she were really hungry, she would have gone to the dining hall, not the reception room."

"You're right!" Theona suddenly realized, then laughed, not at all embarrassed by Theone's rebuke, instead looking cheerful and lively.

"Reception room, huh?" Rig nodded thoughtfully. "I'll go look for her there."

"Okay!"

"Go ahead."

The Amazonian sisters stepped aside, and Rig bowed in gratitude.

After Rig left, the Amazonian twins exchanged a glance and fell silent.

"Did you notice, Theona?"

Theone asked in a low voice.

"Yeah." Theona, who had lost some of her carefree attitude, stared at Rig's back. "His movements are different from before, and his posture is a bit unnatural. It's probably due to a sudden surge in power, making it hard to coordinate. It's super obvious that he hasn't adapted to his current strength yet."

"Is that so?" Theone said quietly. "Did he level up?"

"Probably." Theona replied. "After all, only leveling up would cause such a sudden increase in power that makes it hard to control one's body."

At this, the two fell silent again.

"Only seven days."

"Indeed."

The silence was filled with a sense of awe, making the atmosphere between them somewhat stiff.

"Going to the Labyrinth today?"

"Sure."

Thus, the day's plans were quickly confirmed by the two sisters.

However, both had a feeling that no matter how hard they tried, it might be in vain.

That man, the new member who had just joined the Familia, would soon catch up.

But even so, it was unacceptable for the two geniuses to just watch without putting in effort.

Not to mention, even a wolfman youth who had just turned around in a corner clicked his tongue.

"Boring."

The wolfman youth left an unpleasant remark and turned to leave.

In the reception room of the House of Twilight.

This was a room with an orange-yellow theme, a heavy and stable style, and a direct view of the corridor.

The room contained several expensive-looking sofas and a round table with a tablecloth, exuding a sense of luxury. No matter who the guest, they would not feel neglected.

However, this reception room didn't seem to be primarily for entertaining guests but rather as a leisure space for the Familia members to rest.

At this moment, Raphi was sitting in a chair, sighing.

The girl had been in this state for quite some time.

Many members who happened to see her had come to ask if she was okay, but they only received a forced smile from Raphi.

To avoid affecting others and making them overly worried, Raphi had come to this place to hide.

However, being alone, Raphi's mood didn't improve; instead, she felt even more depressed, even to the point of feeling a bit isolated.

"A person like me..."

From Raphi's alluring lips came these slightly self-torturing words.

At this moment, a voice appeared.

"What's wrong with a person like you?"

The sudden voice startled Raphi.

She then realized that someone had entered the reception room and was standing in front of her.

This person was someone Raphi was a bit hesitant to see.

"Mr. Rig?"

Raphi became nervous.

"Why do you look like I'm about to eat you?" Rig chuckled. "If someone saw, they might think I'm bullying a senior Familia member because of my age."

"Sorry..." Raphi looked ashamed.

"That's not the case." Rig looked at the still nervous Raphi and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Raphi didn't say anything.

But Rig didn't fall silent either.

"Thinking about yesterday?"

He said it casually, as if what happened yesterday wasn't a life-or-death battle but a game.

However, Rig's attitude made Raphi feel conflicted.

After a while, Raphi suddenly stood up.

"Sorry!"

The elf girl gave Rig a deep bow.

Seeing this, Rig scratched his cheek.

"You're still thinking about yesterday, aren't you?" Rig sighed and said directly, "Do you feel useless because you couldn't help and could only watch?"

Raphi's shoulders trembled slightly.

It was clear that Rig had hit the mark.

Raphi's face, when she looked up, was full of guilt and deep regret.

"I'm a teammate of Mr. Rig, and Mr. Rig even told me to use magic when I had the chance. My level is even higher than Mr. Rig's and that crocodile dragon's, yet I couldn't help at all and just stood there, doing nothing. I'm a terrible and unworthy teammate."

Raphi felt depressed about this.
