Chapter 5: A Life Unbearable to Recall
6 min read1,539 words
At the top of the central tower of the Dusk Manor lies Loki's divine chamber.
To put it more simply, this is Loki's room, filled with all sorts of miscellaneous items.
There are expensive quills and mysterious crystals with a faint iridescent hue on the table.
There are ancient shoes and hats hanging on the walls.
There are piles of heavy books and ornately decorated short swords that have overwhelmed the bed.
Even in the corners of the room, there are small storage units filled with bottles of various colors and shapes.
Under Loki's guidance, Rigel arrived here.
"Come in."
Loki casually pushed open the door and swaggered into her room.
"Excuse me for the intrusion."
Rigel, on the other hand, was unexpectedly polite. He first stood at the door, bowed slightly, and then entered the divine chamber.
"Come, come, come, sit here."
Loki was very enthusiastic towards Rigel, like a child with a new toy, her mood quite high. She even brought a chair for Rigel, swept away a mountain of various items, and invited him to sit down.
Looking at this free-spirited and unrestrained goddess, Rigel, though already aware of her personality, still felt a bit strange.
After all, the being before him was a god.
Even in his previous life, those associated with the word "god" were extremely noble, not to be treated with the slightest disrespect.
However, as the first true god he had ever met, Loki's strong personality indeed refreshed Rigel's understanding of what a "god" is.
With these thoughts in mind, Rigel sat down at Loki's invitation and glanced around the divine chamber.
In contrast, Loki's narrow eyes were fixed on Rigel from the beginning, and her face was always adorned with an unseemly smile.
"Sorry, most of the children in the clan are on a dungeon expedition, so we can't give you a lively welcome party."
Loki said with a grin.
"That's fine." Rigel withdrew his gaze from the surroundings, shook his head, and said, "I don't really like crowds, so this is fine."
"Uh-huh, I can see you're that kind of person," Loki nodded in agreement but added, "But even if you don't like it, now that you've joined my clan, you're part of the family. Being too reclusive won't do, you know?"
"I understand." Rigel smiled calmly at Loki and said, "If someone is worth associating with, I won't isolate myself."
"Someone worth associating with, huh?" Loki's expression was subtle, but she shrugged and said, "Alright, for now, let's leave it at that. I don't want to lecture a new member right away. We'll leave that part for future observation."
As she spoke, Loki propped her chin with one hand and rested one foot on the thigh of the other, her narrow eyes fixed on Rigel, her smile unchanged.
"You haven't received any blessings yet, right?"
Hearing this, Rigel deliberately ignored Loki's penetrating gaze and nodded naturally.
"I haven't received any blessings. I only came to Orario today. Before that, I hadn't seen any gods or joined any clans."
Rigel knew that lying to a god in this world was impossible.
Therefore, he wouldn't engage in any meaningless deception, and his words and actions were extremely candid.
"I thought so." Loki grinned and said, "If you had any special qualities, you wouldn't have just stood at the gate waiting for me."
What is Loki's clan?
One of the strongest clans in Orario, a top-tier faction in this world, and one of the two kings of the Labyrinth City, alongside Freya's clan, renowned throughout the land.
Such a powerful clan has countless people vying to join.
However, is it that easy to join Loki's clan?
Not to mention Loki's clan, even a slightly larger clan would have some requirements for new members and wouldn't just accept anyone.
Therefore, to join a famous clan, one must have some outstanding qualities.
For those who have joined a clan and received blessings, it depends on their strength.
For those who have never joined a clan and haven't received any blessings, it depends on their potential.
The former aside, the latter usually involves looking at race and talent.
After all, this world has beings known as anthropoids.
Beastmen have naturally sharp senses and various talents depending on their classification.
Dwarves are known for their strength and robust physiques, far surpassing other races in both strength and endurance.
Amazons, though only women, are known for their martial prowess and tenacious vitality.
Elves are a magical race and can perform certain miracles and mysteries even without divine blessings.
Compared to these anthropoids, humans have no special qualities.
In such a situation, if Rigel, as an ordinary human, had approached one of the strongest clans, the Loki clan, expressing a desire to join, he would most likely have been refused by the gatekeeper without even seeing the clan's deity.
Fortunately, Rigel was well aware of this, so he never considered a direct visit.
Knowing what he would face, he chose to wait at the gate for Loki.
Compared to humans, who would assess others' value in a very practical way, it was better to confront a god who acts on a whim and often does unexpected things. This would be more effective in achieving his goal.
Understanding this, Rigel decided to wait at the gate.
He even prepared himself for a long wait, ready to wait for several days.
He didn't believe that Loki, a free-spirited deity, would stay in the clan's base indefinitely.
The result proved his thinking was correct.
"Take off your shirt first." Loki moved a chair behind Rigel and said, "Just the top."
Rigel nodded, unbuttoned his shirt, and exposed his back to Loki.
"Tsk, tsk, such good skin, even better than the young girls in my clan."
Loki marveled at Rigel's smooth back while holding a box in her hand.
Inside the box was a needle.
Loki picked up the needle and spoke.
"How much do you know about 'blessings'?"
This question made Rigel think for a moment.
After a while, he spoke cautiously based on his memory.
"As far as I know, this is the power to engrave 'sacred script' on humans using divine blood as a medium, to enhance their abilities." Rigel said, "This power acts as a catalyst, transforming the experience gained through various actions into tangible abilities, accelerating and amplifying their growth."
"Correct." Loki agreed with Rigel and continued, "The experience points that are invisible to the human eye, in other words, your personal history, we gods use 'blessings' to extract this history and turn it into nutrients for growth, allowing you to grow and strengthen at a speed unimaginable to mortals. This is the only role we (gods) can play in the mortal world."
As she spoke, Loki pricked her finger with the needle.
A drop of blood seeped out.
Dipping the needle in the blood, Loki began to draw on Rigel's back.
Rigel could feel Loki's fingertip sliding on his back.
However, his attention was soon drawn by Loki's voice.
"Using 'sacred script' as a guide and divine blood as a medium, we gods depict your abilities in concrete numerical terms, so divine blessings are also called ability values. Anyone who can read sacred script can visually confirm the abilities of those who have received blessings."
Loki's voice seemed to grow distant and profound.
"Ability values are basically divided into four parts: basic abilities, development abilities, magic, and skills, with the most crucial being the level."
"Development abilities aside, these are additional items that have a chance to be gained when leveling up, which you won't have just after receiving a blessing."
"Basic abilities are divided into five categories: 'Strength,' 'Endurance,' 'Dexterity,' 'Agility,' and 'Magic Power.' Each category is represented by ten stages: S, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H, with the closer to S, the stronger the ability."
"Level, as the name suggests, is the most direct standard for distinguishing strength. The higher the level, the stronger the ability. Compared to the improvement of basic abilities, level improvement is a complete transformation, and you can consider it as humans approaching our (gods) level."
"As for magic and skills, the former is the power to trigger supernatural phenomena, originally only usable by a few magical races, but after receiving a blessing, anyone from any race has a chance to possess it, ranging from one to three. The latter is a special ability that brings effects under certain conditions, not as directly powerful as magic, but without a limit on the number."
At this point, Loki's voice seemed to carry an indescribable allure, resonating in Rigel's ears.
"To be honest, whether it's magic or skills, these two abilities inspired by divine blessings are closely related to you, directly linked to your interest and recognition of certain things. It's not an exaggeration to say they are the materialization of your fantasies and thoughts. You can try asking your inner self, recalling your life, and perhaps something will be triggered."
Hearing this, Rigel couldn't help but recall his past life, a life unbearable to recall.
