Chapter 7 of 100
Chapter 7: My Time Is Limited
7 min read1,688 words
A spell, three skills.
This is indeed an exaggerated starting point for someone who has just received a blessing.
Even Loki, who has brought his family to one of the strongest positions in Orario over the past few decades, has only seen this kind of potential in one person.
This person is the first member of Loki's family found after descending to the lower world, the current leader of the Loki family, one of the less than ten Level 6 heroes in the Labyrinth City of Orario, the dwarf hero known as "The Hero" — Finn Thymna.
When the leader of the Loki family first received the blessing, he, like Rik, awakened a spell and three skills. Now, he possesses two spells and five skills, making him the person with the most skills known to Loki, and his spells are just one away from being full.
Although having more spells and skills does not necessarily mean a person is stronger than those with fewer, there are also stronger beings in the Labyrinth City of Orario than Finn. However, it depends on the specific effects of the spells and skills.
Spells can be strong or weak, and skills can have useful or useless effects. Just because they are awakened does not mean they are necessarily useful or can enhance one's strength.
But, what about the effects of Rik's spells and skills?
"This is really..."
Loki looked at the effects of the spells and magic imprinted on the parchment, his rarely opened eyes frequently flashing with a keen light.
Especially the effect of the skill "Self-Redemption" — "Can autonomously update ability values by consuming corresponding divine blood."
"Damn autonomous update of ability values." Loki cursed: "Not to mention me, who has only been in the lower world for a few decades, even those who have been here for hundreds of years probably haven't seen a skill with this effect."
Loki has never heard of any child in the lower world being able to update their ability values on their own.
What position would this leave for us gods? How could we bear it?
After sealing their divine power, the only role gods can play in the lower world is to grant blessings and update the content of those blessings.
Rik naturally did not know Loki's thoughts and just looked at his ability values.
There was not much to say about the basic abilities.
Due to just receiving the blessing, the five items that had not yet gained experience to grow were all at the lowest I stage, with a consistent 0 proficiency.
Proficiency refers to the progress of the ability.
0-99 is I.
100-199 is H.
200-299 is G.
300-399 is F.
And so on, when proficiency reaches 900-999, it is S.
People generally believe that the highest stage of basic abilities is S, and the upper limit of proficiency is 999.
The only way to improve the proficiency and stage of each basic ability is to frequently use that ability.
To improve "Strength," one must frequently use forceful attacks.
To improve "Endurance," one must frequently endure attacks.
To improve "Agility," one must frequently speed up and charge.
And so on, to improve "Magic," one must frequently use spells.
The more frequently an ability is used, the more the proficiency increases, but the closer it gets to the maximum value of 999, the slower the growth of proficiency becomes.
It is said that only a few people can raise an ability to the highest S stage, and even fewer can reach the A and B stages.
Of course, as someone who knows the original plot, Rik knows that some people with special abilities can not only reach the highest S stage but also break this theoretical upper limit.
"I wonder if I can break this limit."
While thinking about this, Rik focused most of his attention on his spells and skills.
When he saw the only awakened spell "Omnipotent," Rik's gaze paused slightly.
"Memory magic?" Rik thought to himself sarcastically: "In the end, my only strong point is still my memory."
Clearly, this spell is a manifestation of Rik's outstanding memory, and the only talent from his previous life that he could be proud of.
The reason it manifests as a spell is probably related to the fact that the original owner, whose body Rik has taken over, is a native of a magic world with innate magical power.
As for the three skills, they are the crystallization of Rik's inner obsession.
Rik tentatively memorized the effects of these spells and skills for future exploration.
At this moment, Loki seemed to have composed himself and spoke again.
"I will use divine blood to lock your ability values, hiding the blessing to prevent others from prying."
Loki picked up a needle, pierced his finger, and dotted it on Rik's back while saying this to Rik.
"Also, I must remind you that ability values are the greatest secret of each person who has received a blessing. Generally, except for the most trusted family members and the family's god, you should not reveal your ability values to anyone to avoid having your strength thoroughly understood by malicious people, leading to unnecessary targeting and hostility."
Loki, for the first time, put on a serious face and looked at Rik intently.
"Especially you, Rik. Apart from family members, you should not let anyone else know about your spells and skills."
Without a doubt, Rik's spells and skills are superlative abilities.
Rik may still need to explore, but as a god with extensive knowledge and keen insight, Loki can already see their capabilities and potential.
They are absolutely something that would shock and even drive certain beings to madness.
Therefore, Loki must remind Rik of this.
"I understand."
Rik naturally would not casually reveal his bottom line to outsiders.
He knew that things that can be hidden are often the key and trump card to victory.
"You understand, that's good." Loki's tone relaxed, and he grinned again, saying: "Of course, you don't need to be overly cautious. My Loki family is not some street cat or dog. If anyone dares to act against you, they'll be ready to lose their claws."
Loki's fingertip, stained with divine blood, drew a line on Rik's back, and Rik's back immediately rippled like the surface of a pond.
Before long, Rik's ability values disappeared.
They were locked.
Unless Loki himself unlocks them with divine blood or someone uses illegal means to forcibly unlock them, no one can make them appear.
Rik thought that with the effects of the skills he obtained, he should be able to unlock them using Loki's divine blood.
However, Rik naturally would not do this without a good reason.
"Done!"
After finishing everything, Loki clapped his hands, looking like he had accomplished a great feat and returned with a full load.
Rik also put on his clothes, burned the parchment with his ability values on the oil lamp, and then turned to Loki.
"When can I go to the dungeon?"
Rik tentatively asked.
"What? Are you in a hurry?" Loki rolled her eyes and said: "Just received the blessing and you want to dive into the dungeon? Aren't you tired?"
According to Rik's own account, he only arrived in Orario today.
Although it is unknown where Rik came from, finding Loki's family on the first day in Orario, receiving the blessing, and then wanting to dive into the dungeon, his energy must be quite vigorous.
"Rest first, and then sort things out. We'll talk about other matters later." Loki said irritably: "I'll have someone take you to an empty room. Tomorrow, I'll take you around the base, familiarize you with the place and the people."
Hearing this, Rik's brow furrowed slightly, then relaxed.
"Can I take this with me?"
Rik pointed to the short sword casually placed on Loki's bed.
"You like it?" Loki's face was strange as she said: "It's fine to give it to you, but it's just a decorative item. Its value as a piece of art is much greater than its performance as a weapon. You can only use it for self-defense."
"That's enough." Rik smiled slightly and said: "I just want a weapon for self-defense. Otherwise, I feel a bit insecure with empty hands."
"Sure." Loki squinted her eyes, staring at Rik for a while, then waved her hand and said: "Take it. Consider it a gift from me, your god, to the new member of the family."
"Thank you." Rik bowed and then picked up the short sword.
Then, Rik left Loki's divine room and walked out of the room.
Loki watched Rik leave and muttered after a while.
"I thought he was a steady kid, but he turns out to have a hidden impulsive side."
"Whatever, let him go. Who am I to stop him when all the kids in my family act like they're carrying some heavy burden?"
"I hope this kid can grow up smoothly."
In the divine room, the seemingly unreliable but actually meticulous and far-sighted god quietly closed her eyes.
At the same time, at the entrance of the Dusk Hall, Rik, holding the elaborately decorated short sword, left.
His gaze was fixed on the center of the city.
There, a towering white chalk tower, higher than the central tower of the Dusk Hall, stood tall enough to overlook the entire city.
"Is that the Babel Tower?"
The Babel Tower, also known as the Divine Tower, is the most important and iconic building in the Labyrinth City of Orario.
It has many functions and roles.
Among these functions and roles, the most crucial one is to serve as the lid of the dungeon, suppressing the entrance to the dungeon at the bottom of the tower.
Yes.
The entrance to the dungeon is under that white chalk tower.
"Sorry, Loki."
A cold and resolute look flashed in Rik's eyes.
"My time is limited."
With that, Rik immediately headed towards the Babel Tower.
Target: The dungeon.
