The needle in Wang Rui's back of the head was slowly withdrawn, and the man returned to his original state, saying, "Carry him out and throw him on the road."
"Is that enough?"
Chen Yang squatted down and picked up the thief. The weight of the man, over sixty kilograms, was almost imperceptible to him.
"It's enough. I've implanted a part of myself in his brain. I can sense his life and death at any time. When he dies, I'll know the results of the experiment."
Chen Yang sighed. He could only blame the thief for being so unlucky. Why did he choose to steal from his house? It was as if he had chosen the path to hell when the path to heaven was open.
Holding the thief, he opened the door and quickly walked out of the alley under the cover of night, throwing the thief onto a quiet road. Then, Chen Yang turned and left.
It wasn't until nearly half an hour later that Wang Rui was awakened by a severe headache.
"Where am I?"
His head was throbbing intensely. Wang Rui looked around in confusion, puzzled: "Why am I on this street?"
"Huh, what did I do today? Why can't I remember?"
Wang Rui shook his head, but the pain was so intense that he stopped trying to figure out why he was there. He slowly got up from the ground, leaning on a lamppost and breathing heavily.
"So hungry, so hungry, why am I so hungry?"
His stomach growled loudly. Wang Rui, like a zombie, rubbed his stomach and walked numbly down the street.
"I want to go home, I want to eat..."
Muttering to himself, Wang Rui took a few steps and rested, then took a few more steps. It took him over an hour to finally return to his rented apartment.
Without thinking much, Wang Rui frantically found a box of instant noodles, tore open the packaging, and threw the noodles into his mouth, chewing and swallowing them. He ate six packets of instant noodles in a row and then hurriedly found water to drink.
"Phew..."
Collapsing on the floor, Wang Rui's expression was dazed. He didn't care about the dirty floor and fell into a deep sleep.
What he didn't know was that during his sleep, his brain had undergone a strange transformation. This change was far from a good thing for humans.
The next day, Wang Rui woke up at ten in the morning. With a rumbling stomach, he rushed out of his apartment and straight to the noodle shop next door, ordering a bowl of noodles and eating it voraciously.
His eating was so similar to that of an African refugee that it even drew the attention of the other customers in the shop.
But Wang Rui didn't care. He just felt that the noodles, which he usually didn't find particularly tasty, suddenly tasted so good today.
One bowl wasn't enough, so he ordered two more and ate them until he felt full.
For the first time, he paid the bill happily and prepared to return to his apartment to rest.
"Wait, what's the date today?"
Wang Rui's face changed. He quickly took out his phone and slapped the back of his head, "Oh no!"
Without saying more, he called a taxi and headed to his destination.
The destination was an old neighborhood from the 1990s. Wang Rui paid the driver and rushed into the complex with a worried look, going to Unit 3, Floor 3, Room 1 and pressing the doorbell.
"Ding..."
"Click."
The door slowly opened, and a woman in her mid-thirties, wearing an apron, opened it.
"Xiaofang, I..."
"Hey, wait, don't close the door!"
Before Wang Rui could finish his sentence, the woman tried to close the door, but Wang Rui blocked it firmly.
"Xiaofang, listen to me. I overslept today, so I have a reason..."
"You scoundrel, how dare you say that? Oversleeping is an excuse? Do you know how long Xiaonuo has been waiting for you? If you like sleeping so much, you might as well not come at all."
The woman was already angry, and Wang Rui's explanation only made her angrier.
"Xiaofang, I'm sorry, okay? I promise it won't happen again. Can I come in and see my son?"
Wang Rui pleaded.
"Hmph, you still remember Xiaonuo is your son? If it weren't for the fact that you still provide living expenses every month and fulfill your duties as a father..."
The woman opened the door, her expression cold. "Come in. Since you've delayed the plan we agreed on today, don't expect to stay for lunch. After you see your son, go back!"
"Okay, okay..."
Wang Rui dared to be arrogant in front of others, but he absolutely didn't dare to do the same in front of his ex-wife. He knew he owed this woman a lot.
Entering the room, Wang Rui saw that the living room was empty, so he knew his son must be in the study. He went in and found his son, Wang Nuo, diligently doing his homework.
"Xiaonuo, are you doing your homework?"
Thirteen-year-old Wang Nuo looked up, snorted, and continued his work, ignoring his father.
Wang Rui felt a bit awkward, found a chair, and sat next to Wang Nuo, explaining, "Xiaonuo, I'm sorry. I had something come up today. How about we find another time, say, tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow I have school!"
Wang Rui replied coldly.
"Then, how about we find another time?"
"Who knows if you'll be the same as today and in the past?"
Wang Nuo didn't give his father any face.
"I promise, I promise, okay? I won't be late next time!"
Unfortunately, Wang Rui's words didn't easily earn Wang Nuo's forgiveness. He continued to work on his homework without a word.
Wang Rui sighed and looked around. He couldn't just leave after a few words, so he looked at the homework his son was doing. "Xiaonuo, why are you leaving these problems undone?"
"I can't do them."
Wang Nuo said gloomily.
"Can't?"
Wang Rui carefully examined the problems. He had only graduated from junior high school, and it had been so long since he studied that he had forgotten most of what he learned. He didn't dare say he could do the problems his son couldn't.
But...
Today was strange. He was surprised to find that the problems his son couldn't do didn't seem that difficult to him.
Hmm, indeed strange. These problems could be solved with just a few simple calculations, right?
"Xiaonuo... aren't these problems difficult?"
"Not difficult? What kind of joke is that? You can't even understand the problems, and you say they're not difficult?"
Wang Nuo said angrily. He knew his father was uneducated, and he couldn't even understand the problems of a junior high school student. Today, he actually dared to say they weren't difficult?
"I think... these problems really aren't that difficult."
Wang Rui picked up a pen and paper and quickly wrote out the solution. "Look, just solve the equations this way, and you'll get the answer quickly."
"You..."
Wang Nuo glanced at it casually, but to his surprise, his father's solution actually worked!
Sometimes, math problems just require a different perspective, and the solution becomes clear.
At that moment, Wang Nuo had that "aha" moment.
But because of this, he felt incredulous. His father could solve math problems? What kind of joke was this?
Wang Rui stopped writing, shook his head, and also felt something was off.
"Xiaonuo, just solve the problems this way. I'm going to smoke a cigarette."
Ignoring his son's surprise, Wang Rui stood up from the chair and walked out of the study, standing on the balcony and looking at the distant scenery, feeling a strong sense of unease.
"Today is a bit strange..."
Wang Rui touched his face, his eyes filled with confusion. "Why do I feel so clear-headed?"
He couldn't help but feel strange. Reflecting on today, there were too many doubts.
Why did he wake up on the floor this morning?
Why were there so many instant noodle packets on the floor?
What did he do yesterday? Why couldn't he remember?
Too many doubts made his heart heavier. Looking at the ants crawling on the balcony, he had a vague feeling that his life was a bit unstable.
Wang Rui didn't know that his feeling was a reflection of reality. Who knew how long he had left to live.
