Remaining calm amidst the chaos, Fang Ye and Feng Li weren’t much better off. Even though they had experienced countless storms and seen all sorts of things in human society, they had never seen anything like this.
Zhang Meng, still in the ventilation duct, was pierced through the back by a sharp, strange object, which burst out of his throat. He seemed unable to believe it, his eyes reflecting a hint of terror.
He spat out a mouthful of blood and struggled to say, “Save, save me...”
“Bang...”
As the word “me” was spoken, Zhang Meng was suddenly pulled into the ventilation duct as if on a roller coaster, leaving behind a series of “bang” sounds.
“Damn, damn, damn... This isn’t in the game.”
After all, Luo Rui was a man, and after his initial scream, he stopped, but his fear didn’t disappear.
“Let’s go quickly.”
Suppressing his rapid heartbeat, Fang Ye grabbed the hands of the two girls and prepared to lead everyone away.
“Bang.”
Kicking open the wooden door, they found themselves in another dark room. Fortunately, Fang Ye had already given the flashlight to someone else, otherwise, if it were still with Zhang Meng, things would have been much worse.
“Go this way...”
Entering the pitch-black room, Luo Rui became even more terrified as he realized that, in his memory, there should have been a dead body and a person who was not yet fully dead, but now there was no sign of any body.
What did this mean?
It meant that things, which were already terrible, had become even worse. Once the game’s plot was no longer known, Luo Rui had no idea what to do.
“We’re finished, we’re finished, we’re dead.”
Luo Rui felt a sense of despair.
“Where is the security key card in the game?”
Exiting the dark room, Fang Ye released the hands of the two girls and grabbed Luo Rui’s shoulder to ask.
“Key card? But...”
The game was no longer the one he knew, and who knew if the security key card was still there.
“The key card is on the first floor, but we’re on the second floor. In the game, we were thrown down by someone, but now...”
Luo Rui was bitter. They were in the same position as the protagonist in the game who was caught and thrown down, but the fat man who was supposed to appear didn’t.
“Go this way.”
Feng Li squeezed through the gap between the goods. “There’s an elevator here.”
“Elevator?”
Everyone quickly squeezed over and indeed saw a simple elevator.
“Hmm, it seems to be working. Where should we go?”
The elevator door slowly opened, and Feng Li turned back to ask.
“First floor.”
Fang Ye’s face was grim. “Things are very strange now, and everything is unclear. Let’s go to the hall first to see if there’s a phone and follow the text message instructions to find the security key card.”
“Okay, first floor.”
Everyone went in one after another. Just as Feng Li was about to press the button for the first floor, a series of “bang” sounds suddenly came.
“It’s... it’s that sound.”
Everyone’s faces changed dramatically. The last time this sound was heard, it was when Zhang Meng was killed and dragged away. Now it was happening again.
“Quick, close the elevator door.”
“It’s not working... the elevator isn’t responding.”
Feng Li was drenched in cold sweat, pressing the button for the first floor frantically, but the elevator didn’t respond, and the door wouldn’t close.
“We’re finished, we’re finished, we’re dead.”
Luo Rui muttered, almost collapsing to the ground.
“Shh, be quiet, the sound is gone.”
Among the few present, only Fang Ye managed to maintain a certain level of calm. As soon as the “bang” sound disappeared, he immediately noticed.
The sound was indeed gone, and the silence returned.
However, before their tension could ease, a completely black monster slowly crawled down from the ceiling. Its head was uneven, its body cold and black like a machine, and its sharp, thin tail made it look like a demon from hell. The few present immediately recognized the monster’s prototype.
It was impossible not to recognize it, as the monster’s image was so famous, and everyone present had seen the movie featuring this monster.
“A-A-Alien...”
Shivering, Luo Rui struggled to say the word.
The two girls beside him were so scared that they couldn’t even scream. Their faces turned pale, and a smell of urine gradually spread from their bodies.
Feng Li and Fang Ye were not much better. No matter how many storms they had weathered, facing a monster that only existed in their imagination still made them tremble with fear, and their breathing seemed to stop.
What is fear?
If a person is stared at by a cobra, they would be too scared to move.
If they were in the wilderness and stared at by a lion or a tiger, their thoughts would almost come to a halt.
But if the thing staring at them was an alien from a movie, out of a hundred people, a hundred would choose to face a lion or a tiger instead.
Watching an alien on the screen already made people draw a sharp breath, but when they saw an alien in person, just a few meters away, it wasn’t just a matter of drawing a sharp breath. Their limbs went numb, and their entire bodies felt as if they were in an ice cellar.
“Beep...”
At this moment, the elevator finally responded, and the door began to close slowly.
“Whoosh...”
The speed at which the elevator door closed was no match for the speed at which the alien climbed and swung its tail.
In a flash, a black, steel-like tail bone shot through the air, piercing He Ting’s forehead with a “thud,” and burst out the back of her head, splattering blood and brain matter.
“Splash.”
The alien’s tail bone coiled and retracted, pulling He Ting out of the closing elevator door and disappearing into the ceiling in an instant.
“Bang.”
The elevator door finally closed. Ye Qingqing, who had been splattered with blood, stood there in a daze, clearly terrified.
“Go, lead the way quickly. Where is the security key card?”
Seeing the alien in front of them, Fang Ye threw away all his concerns and urgently asked Luo Rui, grabbing his shoulder.
“But... but this isn’t the game anymore. I, I don’t know if the key card is still there.”
Luo Rui was almost in tears. For a high school student to hold it together this long was already a miracle.
“Regardless of whether it’s there or not, follow the game’s route and lead us there.”
Fang Ye turned to Feng Li. “Feng, take the little girl.”
“Okay, no problem.”
Feng Li took a few deep breaths, grabbed Ye Qingqing’s hand, and followed Fang Ye and the others out.
Luo Rui, trembling, looked around to confirm the path and led everyone to the right, through a corridor, and into another room.
In the game, this room was supposed to have a few mentally ill patients, but now it was empty, which made Luo Rui even more terrified.
“The key card, the key card should be on that body.”
Pointing to the body on the chair, Luo Rui didn’t dare to approach.
Having seen the alien, Fang Ye’s tolerance for a dead body had greatly increased. He suppressed his nausea, searched the body’s clothing, and found a key card.
“Phew... It’s still there.”
Luo Rui finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Ding...”
A series of text message alerts rang out. Everyone’s faces were already grim, and hearing the alert made them feel a chill.
“Huh, the first task is over, and we’re about to return?”
Fang Ye was slightly more composed, took out his phone, and looked at it with a mix of surprise and confusion.
“Return?”
“Does that mean we can go back?”
Luo Rui was delighted.
“Crack...”
Luo Rui’s joy was still on his face when he saw the sharp tail bone suddenly shoot through Ye Qingqing’s head, bursting out of her right eye and smashing into his face.
“Ahh...”
A heart-wrenching scream erupted from Luo Rui’s mouth.
