After all the performances by the first-year high school class were over, the preliminary show came to an end. The results of the preliminary selection were not immediately announced; the judges only recorded their scores, and the specific list would be discussed in a meeting, with the official announcement to be made on Monday.
By the time the show ended, it was already past half past twelve. The students dispersed to go home. Jin Xiaoli and Liu Yan were leaving together in Director Liu's car, so they had agreed to meet Wang Bo for dinner later and went back first.
He walked alone, carrying a bag with his costume, and in the crowd, he saw two familiar figures. Upon approaching, he confirmed they were his classmates Yu Jia and Lu Lu.
"Did you come to watch the performance too? Were you here to support me?" Wang Bo greeted them.
Yu Jia was excited as soon as she saw him, exclaiming, "Wow, expert, it's you! Wang Bo, I didn't know you had this talent. No wonder Lu Lu said you were good at martial arts. I always thought you were good at fighting, but I didn't expect you to have practiced martial arts."
"Where, where," Wang Bo scratched his head modestly, "I'm no expert, just some fancy moves. Liu Yan and the others are the real talents; I was just there to support them."
"Don't be modest," Yu Jia laughed and patted him, "Liu Yan and the others are good, but you were clearly the main act. Most of the applause was for you."
As she spoke, she suddenly pinched his arm and exclaimed, "Wow, Lu Lu, come feel this. Wang Bo's arm is so solid~ No wonder he's an expert. Come on, feel it."
Lu Lu was embarrassed by her fussing, her face turning slightly red. She scowled, "Go to hell, who wants to touch it."
Wang Bo, feeling awkward, touched the spot Yu Jia had pinched, thinking to himself: I've been naked and you've touched me before, now with clothes on, it feels more awkward?
"Where are you going now? Home?"
Yu Jia shook her head, "Not home. We live on campus, so we have to be at school tonight. Today, Lu Lu asked me to come early, and we came specially to support you. So, great expert, how about showing your gratitude?"
Lu Lu hurriedly interjected, "It was you who dragged me here."
Wang Bo glanced at her, and she turned her head away, looking annoyed. He thought for a moment and said to Yu Jia, "It's getting late, and it's a bit rushed. How about this: at six tonight, I have a celebration dinner with Liu Yan and the others at Dongjia Private Kitchen. Why don't you join us? It'll be more lively with more people."
"Great, great," Yu Jia clapped her hands and laughed, "It's been a while since we've been there. We'll have a treat today. Great expert, you're treating us, right?"
"I'll treat, I'll treat," Wang Bo nodded, agreeing. He wouldn't have to worry about money soon, so he was being generous, "At six tonight, call me when you get there. Oh, Lu Lu has my phone number. See you then, I have to go. Make sure to come."
With that, he hurried off, needing to find a lottery station to place a bet. His last words inadvertently revealed Lu Lu's secret. Yu Jia stared at her friend, watching her face turn from white to red, and then asked, "How do you have his phone number? Do you often contact him privately?"
Lu Lu spat, "Is it strange that I have his number? Who said we have to contact each other? I have many people's numbers but never contact them."
"If you two don't contact each other, how did he know you have his number?" Yu Jia, with her high IQ, asked suspiciously, thinking she was too naive to fool her.
"I only texted him once, and I didn't expect him to remember so clearly," Lu Lu said indifferently, then changed the subject, "By the way, where are we going for lunch? I'm a bit hungry."
"Anywhere," Yu Jia replied casually, thinking she was changing the subject again, "What did you text him? Did you initiate it?"
Lu Lu's face turned even redder, and she feigned anger, "Stop asking, can't you? Give me some privacy."
"Oh, so it's a privacy issue," Yu Jia emphasized the last few words, shaking her head in a sad manner, "You said we were close friends, but now you're talking about privacy. Sigh, the world is getting worse."
Lu Lu bit her lower lip, watching her friend put on a show, and said angrily, "It's just some nonsense he sent me, so I had to ask him about it."
Yu Jia's eyes lit up, "Wow, you went straight to him? Good, I like that! What did he say?"
Lu Lu glanced at her enthusiastically and deliberately teased her, "You want to know? Go ask him yourself."
"Tell me," Yu Jia grabbed her hand and pleaded, even raising her hand to swear, "Tell me, I promise not to tell anyone."
"Ha," Lu Lu said, "You're such a big mouth. Telling you is like telling the whole school. Don't beg me, I can only say I don't know."
Actually, she really didn't know, but Yu Jia thought she had agreed not to tell anyone, so she reluctantly gave up.
After leaving the school, Wang Bo, to avoid causing a big stir, took a bus to a lottery station in a remote part of the city and bought a ticket for the Double Color Ball.
The shop owner gave him a strange look when she saw his ticket, as the numbers were very unusual: the red balls were 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, and the blue ball was 14, forming a continuous sequence from 11 to 17.
Following the system's instructions, Wang Bo only bought one single bet. After confirming the numbers were correct, he quickly left the station.
Back home, Wang Bo carefully stored the valuable lottery ticket. After eating a quick meal, he told his parents he would be out with classmates and wouldn't be home for dinner.
Wang Dad, who was watching TV on the sofa, turned to ask, "Classmates? From junior high?"
"No, just a few classmates from my current class," Wang Bo said casually while eating.
"Oh, how many?"
"Four or five," Wang Bo finished eating, put away the dishes, and asked, "Dad, are you going on a business trip again tomorrow? How long this time?"
"About four days," Wang Dad replied absentmindedly, "Don't drink too much tonight, don't get drunk." He assumed the gathering would be with boys and they might drink, so he gave a reminder.
"Okay," Wang Bo said easily, "You should also drink less. No one will take care of you if you drink too much. Take care of yourself." Wang Dad often went on business trips to handle after-sales service, helping customers with repairs and adjustments, and drinking was inevitable during work.
Wang Dad smiled reassuringly, waved at him, and continued watching TV.
Wang Bo was washing dishes in the kitchen when his mom came in quietly and slipped a hundred yuan into his pocket, saying, "The gathering is AA, right? Keep it, don't lose it."
"Mom, I don't need it, I have money," Wang Bo declined. He never spent recklessly, and the pocket money his parents gave him over the years had saved up quite a bit.
"Take it, just take it," his mom scolded, then softened, "Things have been better at home these past few years, but we still need to save for your house. We don't give you much pocket money, don't be upset with us."
"House? We already have one, why do we need another?"
"Stupid child, you're a boy, you'll have to get married and start a family. Without a house, which girl would marry you?" Wang Mom laughed.
"But there's the old house back home. When it's demolished, it'll be fine. I'm still young."
"Suburban houses don't get demolished easily," Wang Mom lovingly patted his head, "Don't worry, just focus on your studies and get into a good university. Your parents will definitely save up for a house for you."
Seeing the increasing white hair at his mom's temples, Wang Bo felt a pang in his heart and nodded, "Don't worry, I'll definitely get into a good school."
After finishing the dishes, Wang Bo came out of the kitchen and watched TV with his dad. The TV was replaying last night's Premier League match, which was very dull. The two teams couldn't break the deadlock, and even the commentator was bored, leading to long silences. Wang Bo felt drowsy and said to his dad, "I'm going to take a nap."
He had been too excited last night and hadn't slept well. Now that the two big events were settled, he felt relaxed and sleepy. Wang Bo returned to his room, set an alarm on his phone to avoid being late for the dinner, and went to bed to catch up on sleep.
In his sleep, he had a dream, but not in the magical dream world. It was Sunday, and the dream system was on rest, so Wang Bo had an ordinary dream.
He dreamed he was a player in the dull match, running around the field. Suddenly, an opportunity appeared in front of him, and he took a powerful shot from far away!
He didn't know if the ball went in, but he kicked his leg in bed, waking himself up.
