Chapter 36

"Everything has its exceptions," Wang Bo said nonchalantly while eating, "So let's settle it this way. You introduce me to her later, and I'll talk to her about the self-organized activities."

This seemed very difficult to others, but Wang Bo didn't think it would be that hard. Qi Jueying had approached him a few times before, seemingly seeking his help, so it was a good opportunity for a trade. As for whether they could reach an agreement, how would they know if they didn't talk?

Lu Lu's spoon stabbed the rice fiercely, breaking it into several pieces, and she said coldly, "You really want to beg her for help, don't you? You must be thrilled to have a chance to meet a beautiful girl."

Wang Bo stopped chewing, seeing her venting her anger for no reason. He gave Yu Jia a look, asking what was going on, wondering if Lu Lu had any grudge against Qi Jueying.

Yu Jia smiled awkwardly and gently kicked her friend under the table as a reminder. Lu Lu glared at her, "What's wrong with you, kicking me for no reason?"

Now Wang Bo was also embarrassed and asked, "Lu Lu, do you have any misunderstanding with Qi Jueying? Do you dislike her?"

"No, I have nothing to do with her," Lu Lu's expression remained unchanged, neither happy nor angry.

Yu Jia slapped her forehead and said, "Maybe I should step back for a moment?"

Wang Bo chuckled, "Yu Secretary, are you stuck on repeat? You always say that." Then he turned to Lu Lu, "Since there's no enmity between you, why are you angry? Does my meeting with her bother you?"

Only then did Lu Lu understand the significance of her friend's behavior. Her face turned red, and she opened and closed her mouth, not knowing how to explain. She could only look to Yu Jia for help.

True friends are always there for each other. Yu Jia, hardening her resolve, made up an excuse, "Lu Lu isn't angry. She always talks like this, not targeting you or Qi Jueying. You rarely eat with her, so you're not used to it, right?"

Wang Bo nodded in understanding and continued eating.

Lu Lu blinked gratefully at her friend. Yu Jia thought, "Alright, alright, control your emotions. He's just meeting another girl, not going on a date. You claim you have no feelings for him, who believes that?"

On Wednesday afternoon, the last two periods were designated as self-study time, but students were allowed to move around the campus. Those with club activities could participate during this time. Some sports clubs would use this time for public training and recruitment.

The most popular was the school basketball team, whose training took place in the school gym. The upper stands were always filled with spectators.

The school football team's public training was on the playground. The track around the field was sparsely populated, as people had little interest in the team with poor performance, and no one had applied to join the football team for a long time.

At the start of the third period, Wang Bo appeared at the football team's gathering spot. He was dressed in a blue football uniform, fully equipped with shoes and shin guards, and approached the coach to explain his intentions.

The school football team's coach was Zhang Guangda, the head of the physical education department, a passionate football fan. Despite the team's poor performance, he took charge of the team himself.

Wang Bo's intention to join the team had already been mentioned to him by Lu Guanghe, so he had a basic understanding of Wang Bo's skills, though he wasn't particularly concerned.

However, to avoid discouraging him, he still gave Wang Bo a chance to show his skills. He started with a simple question, "Can you juggle the ball?"

"Yes," Wang Bo had prepared thoroughly for this, having exchanged for the skills of an entry-level football player. The basic skill test was no challenge for him.

"Show me a few," Coach Zhang threw a football to him, not paying much attention as he instructed the team to start warming up.

The team spread out to warm up, and a few players noticed that everyone was looking at Wang Bo. Some mouths gradually opened wide in surprise.

They all looked over and saw Wang Bo juggling the ball continuously, using his left foot, right foot, knee, chest, and forehead, then repeating the sequence. His movements were smooth and fluid, without any unnecessary flair, practical and effective.

He juggled for a long time under everyone's watchful eyes, not dropping the ball until Coach Zhang called a stop. Zhang Guangda glanced at the stunned Lu Guanghe, thinking, "Have you ever seen him play? He's not as bad as you said."

However, Coach Zhang only became slightly more serious. Being able to juggle doesn't necessarily mean one can play well. He called out a player's name, "Jianbin, come here. The rest, continue warming up."

He placed two balls on the ground and said to Wang Bo, "From here to that goal, run with the ball as fast as you can, but don't take big strides. Understand? Keep control of the ball. You two try it together."

Wang Bo nodded to show he understood and started running with the ball alongside Jianbin. Coach Zhang chose Jianbin, the team's best dribbler, to set a standard and to give Wang Bo a bit of a challenge, to show him that juggling alone wasn't enough.

However, to his surprise, although Wang Bo's speed wasn't very fast, his dribbling skills were solid. The ball remained under control as he ran, his movements precise, displaying professional-level qualities.

Though not fast, he kept up with Jianbin, who maintained a high-frequency touch. Later, Jianbin became anxious and took a larger step to cross the goal line first, while Wang Bo followed the rules and crossed the line calmly.

Zhao Jianbin picked up the ball and smiled at him, "Good skills. Where do you usually play? I've never seen you before."

The football team players often gathered on various fields to play, sometimes with college students, sometimes with young adults. Due to living in different areas, they formed several circles. Zhao Jianbin had never seen Wang Bo in his circle, hence the question.

"I just play by myself, haven't played many matches," Wang Bo said vaguely.

Back at the gathering spot, Coach Zhang was more impressed. From his performance, Wang Bo was clearly not a beginner. He might lack match experience, but his fundamentals were solid. Taking a substitute position on the team should not be a problem.

Coach Zhang's judgment was accurate. He was confident he wouldn't be wrong. With time, this kid could become a regular player after blending with the team.

However, the tryout wasn't over. Coach Zhang picked up a ball and walked to the side, pointing to the nearby goal, "I'll pass you the ball. You can either control it and shoot or shoot directly. Pay attention to your steps and rhythm."

Seeing Wang Bo nod, he threw the ball to the ground and passed a slow rolling ball. Wang Bo paused, then quickly moved forward, striking the ball with force. He was about 25 meters from the goal. With a loud thud, the ball shot like a cannonball, hitting the upper right corner of the goal and landing with a thud.

"Wow!" The nearby players, who were warming up, exclaimed. Someone informed Lu Guanghe, "Your classmate is such a talent, why didn't you tell us earlier?"

Wang Bo's performance was a pleasant surprise for Zhang Guangda. He thought this shot had a bit of luck, but it confirmed that the kid had a good shot, both powerful and accurate, not just random high shots.

Coach Zhang asked, "What position do you usually play?"

"I'm here to try out as a midfielder," he replied.

"Side midfielder?" Coach Zhang asked, as the team already had enough skilled side midfielders, making it hard to fit another one.

"No," Wang Bo shook his head, "Central midfielder, both offensive and defensive." This meant he could push forward to organize attacks or fall back to intercept, which made Coach Zhang's heart race. He was precisely worried about the lack of central midfielders and the rigid tactics.

"Alright, warm up first. In a bit, we'll have a training match. Watch for 15 minutes to get familiar with the players' characteristics and understand your role on the field. After 15 minutes, I'll put you in. Got it?"

He nodded to show he understood. Then Coach Zhang directed the players to start the training match.

Currently, the school football team had 18 members. The training match was 9 vs. 9, including goalkeepers, with a 3-3-2 formation. Each team had one central midfielder.

The first team consisted entirely of starters, while the second team, except for one midfielder and one wing-back, was made up of substitutes.
